Remarkable playing by all, but especially on the piccolo trumpet. Trust me, that little thing is really tough to play.

I don' t think it's helpful to think that it's tough to play it. A positive mindset is much better.

The Bb trumpet has a great jazz sense peeping out. (Phrasing and expression!)
Utter delight to hear folks who know what they're doing!
    Master craftsmen all.
And that's from a reed player!

I LOVE this version and have listened to it a thousand times! But I just don't like the care for the Bb trumpet's jazz influence in this song. He is an excellent musician and I really enjoy his efforts other Canadian Brass songs. Just my personal preference. Outstanding work by this group!

My professor in music said you can't go back and correct a mistake and if you try, you make two mistakes...all you can do is go forward. If you "correct" mistakes in practice all you are doing is PRACTICING THE MISTAKE. It is very hard to do, but when you make a mistake you simply go forward! That is all you can do. Music is an art in time and as Omar khayyam in the rubaiyat says:
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.
NEVER is this more true than the NOTE IN MUSIC!!!!
Especially when playing with a group and there is this MENTAL METRONOME happening. The BEAT IS LOST FOREVER and the only way it can be done right is the NEXT TIME YOU PLAY OR PERFORM IT.
What one must do is play the phrase at least ten times without the Mistake then then passage. That is the only hope. Music is Rote and not in the mind but in the fingers. You stop...well, an opera friend of mine was doing a performance and she and the pianist, both professionals had started an aria and they weren't QUITE TOGETHER and for a moment tried to "make it right". She simply stopped and said "WELL, WE BLEW THAT DIDN'T WE?" Of course everyone laughed.
When one has a live performance...we are still human and not without flaws. Even in opera. The good news in an orchestra one can simply stop and come back in like a chorus...but when one is a soloist...you can't DO THAT. With tapes and recordings there are DO OVERS...with a live performance the only REAL DO OVER is to simply stop and DO IT OVER!!!

Apples and oranges, baby! sorry.

LOVE the Brandenburg quote at the end!!! Quite clever, and a bit of an inside joke for trumpet players. Supposedly the Beatles heard David Mason playing Brandenburg 2 on the BBC and that was the inspiration for the picc being in this song, they hired him on to record it.
