      Aaron, that's a good life for a lab -- she was a lucky girl to have that much time to spend with you, and it sounds like you had many wonderful adventures together. Dogs are the best camping and hiking companions, and here's to many more years with your two current pups!

    Always love staying at Fremont Lake CG My dad liked staying here because it made a good jumping off spot for getting into Yellowstone in the morning. I've carried on the tradition. The CG has changed over the years, paved roads improved sites etc.

    Been to Pinedale once, and I need to go back. Very nice place. Also I missed the Mountain Man Museum. As for Cell phone service. You need to look into a Cell phone amplifier. and a small external antenna you can put on your trailer. I know lots of ranchers who have had to do that. Stay safe.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před 3 lety

      Same to you James! Yes, you need to get back to this wonderful area. We actually have a cell booster in the RV, but it only works if it has a signal to amplify. If there's nothin', you've got nothin'.

      I like your channel because you fearlessly take the backroads. Now if I could just talk you into a 4x4 expedition build where you could really get off the hard park and into the boonies. And with Starlink on the near horizon, you’ll be able to work without a cell signal.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před 3 lety

      @@rd4660 we are SO ready for Starlink! We signed up for the beta many months ago and we're just waiting for that email to someday arrive. We're optimistic that we'll be able to use it in at least some limited fashion by next season. It will be an absolute game changer for digital nomads.
      We've thought about an overland rig, of course. Something like a Sportsmobile or (if we ever win the lottery) an Earthroamer. However, from where we sit it's a bundle of money for something of limited utility. If we were still weekenders it would make a ton of sense for the way we like to camp, but as long-timers or more we need just a bit more space to be comfortable.

Completely changed our schedule and left us with additional nights to find between Flaming Gorge and Yellowstone. We did the same thing 😂 when we were there Ridleys was out of dairy products for three days so there was no butter to be found 🤣 we loved the area and were checking it out as a possible retirement location. Thank you for bringing us back (even though it was only a month or so ago)! If you go to Dubois on this trip, make sure you check out the National Museum of Military Vehicles, it’s brand new. Very impressive video! I really enjoyed your windshield tour of the Pinedale area and like the way you incorporate the history of the region into your narration. I actually got my first introduction to those sheep herder wagons in 1968 outside of Cody when we stopped on the side of the road and briefly got acquainted with the herder who invited us to take a look at his living quarters. This video captures it just like I remember. Also, like the way you incorporate the chapter feature in your editing. Gonna be looking for Guido Bend next summer. Great episode, Marc. I loved the steel guitar background music in the museum section. It really added to the sense of history you were portraying. Also, great history review of the area.
    Also, the covered wagon turned into an RV had to literally have been the first RV ever made. However, I doubt they would have referred to it as a recreational vehicle. More like a traveling lodge. Very neat to see that... even had a wood stove built in.
    Nice to see that they bypassed the old canvas and rubber roof phase and went directly to a hard formed covering. Way ahead of their time. Leak proof thinking...

      Yeah Rabbi, staying in an RV park -- any RV park -- wasn't what we had in mind. But we had our expectations set before we even arrived. I called ahead from South Dakota, and spoke with National Forest rangers and Wyoming wildlife officials. Both told me that I'd be scratching for any cell signal whatsoever at any of those lakes along the western slope of the Wind Rivers, and they were right.
      When we started working from the road in fall 2019 we realized that we'd have to adjust our expectations. One lesson we took away from our #AmericanHeartlandTour2020, too, is that hookups can have their advantages. That said, we're anxiously awaiting Starlink and have our fingers crossed that it will be up and running by next summer. That will change everything! Any campsite will be in play, including all of the ones that we could only drool at in the Pinedale area.

      Yes! It was great to get that fire out, for sure. Unfortunately, western Rocky Mountain National Park did not escape with little damage. My daughter and I were up there last year on the western side. It looked to be 33 or 40% beetle kill; which, of course, contributed to the blaze. In 1 night, it expanded 100000 acres.

    I think the second name for wyoming is “unfair to every other state state”. You don’t know how beautiful wyoming is until you physically arrive there. It is breathtaking. I think part of it is... well all of it is attributed to the fact that most places in USA simply do not have all that in one place. Sure there are mountains but there are covered in trees and you can’t see much but in Wyoming you get a long run up of valleys and rivers and herds of 4 legged beasts and then flat as a glass lake and you think... wow this is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen... and then you look further up... and see giant mountains and you honestly have to pick up your jaw from the floor at that point.
    I had a privilege of kayaking in Tetons and hike in the area. It is just... I hate it... I hate it I hate it I hate it.
    Wyoming was so good to us that it spoiled everything else. We constantly say... “yeah but it is not as good as wyoming”,
    Wyoming is a gift really. I can’t wait to go back.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před 3 lety

      That's an incredibly accurate description of Wyoming, a description that helps to explain why we love that state so much. However, I think that you bring up an interesting point. Our own observation is that every place around our nation has a unique beauty to explore if you look hard enough, it's just that in some places it's more obvious than others. The rugged northern New England coastline, the bays of the Mid-Atlantic, the palm trees and white sands of Florida, the deep green rolling hills of the Appalachians, the enormity of the Great Lakes, the starkly beautiful Great Plains, the majesty of the Rockies, the sea stacks and volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest, and the sajuaro-studded rocky hills of the Sonoran Desert all hold a special place in our hearts. They're all just incredibly different, that's all.
