Dr. Claytor and Julie describe how neuromodulators work on the acetylcholine release across the nerve-muscle junction to minimize muscle contraction. SNAP-25 which is essential for the release of the vesicle which holds the acetylcholine is blocked by a neuromodulator. When SNAP-25 is blocked, the vesicle holding the acetylcholine cannot bind to the wall of the nerve. With no acetylcholine to cross over to communicate with the muscle, there will be no muscle contraction. It is that simple. The exciting part about the new neuromodulator called Daxxify is that it has an excipient peptide called RTP-004 which is bound to the Botulinum Toxin and gives it a positive charge. This positive charge allows the Daxxify to bind stronger and longer to SNAP-25 and therefore allows the neuromodulator to last longer.
