Regarding the keeping chin tucked tip, I recommend doing the tennis ball under chin when doing heavy bag work and shadow boxing. In my opinion, you're never too good to stop doing that. When you're throwing super heavy shots on the bag, that ball under chin will ingrain the habit of keeping your chin tucked whenever you throw heavy, and whenever you're aggressive. The ball will keep you honest. When you throw a power body hook and the ball falls out, it's an indication that it was an opening where you're going to be countered. Be like Petr Yan.
That's great advice
Really nice tip & breakdown, thnx u sir
@@Tbo69 please no on the sir. I'm not that old
@@stevenshar1233 haha 😂
I'm trying that today!
1:41 - Thinking of the body as a whole and not just arm punching: push from the foot, turn hip and rotate shoulder "everything moves linked together"
3:06 - What is the opposite hand doing as your push the punching shoulder forward? pull the opposite hand back to protect head and increase force
4:59 - Tuck your chin, especially when punching in close, look through eyebrows - good example is Rodtang or pro-boxers.

Icy Mike was right, you give out so much great insight for free.
The advice of pulling the non-punching arm back is so precious! I actually saw it in one of the videos Jared from Sacred Boxing did with Icy Mike I think, except that they were talking about pulling with the entire side of your back, that's opposite to your punching hand. Which I think conceptually works better, 'cause if we put our focus on pulling the hand back, we might overdo it, even unconsciously, leaving ourselves open. Focusing on your back lets your guard stay tight and arguably can let you generate more power. I need to constantly remind myself to do it and I have to really concentrate on that "backwork" during my bagwork and I still catch myself forgeting to do it all the time, but it really does make a difference
1:24 If you have been struggling with your punchability just act smug. It instantly makes you at least four times as punchable.
Joking aside, great video, and thank you for making it.
Something else about the whole body being involved in the punch is that knowing what postures set up what punches can raise the level of one's striking game in multiple ways.
Spot on advice as always!
Excellent!
Thank you for your tipps
Hey Gabriel just want to say thanks man! I’m 4 years into training mma (mostly Muay Thai) I am 30 years old. I’ve also been coaching a lot of classes at the gym over the last two years. My fourth fight is this March 11th. You’re videos help keep me grounded and of course I learn valuable lessons from you. I was a hands down guy before but you helped me really keep those hands up. I tell my training partners in the gym when we are sparring that, ‘I’m doing the Gabriel Varga” whenever I use high gaurd 😊 haha I’ve watched my fights back and hands up is something I really need to work on. It’s so simple and basic but it’s also essential.
AWESOME tips
This is incredible and concise info
Thank you for the pointers Gabriel. I good a lot better thanks to your videos! Much appreciated
The first advice is just on point with me... I need to watch my videos and check if I go all the way with the shoulders. Thank you as always for your videos... by the way I did your video of "high kick" workout.... I couldn't walk this morning 😂 and my muay Thai training this morning was painful 😫
Hey Gabriel, love your channel dude, you're a real martial artist inside and out. I'm curious about your spiritual philosophy and overall approach to life. Have you ever done a video discussing your personal beliefs about life and what you believe in, don't believe in, etc etc.
I wish I had you for a brother growing up man, I've learned so much from you.
These principles are present in many forms of "kung fu."
The first one especially.
This tips is very helpful to me specially in my sparring. Thank you for this tips. I hope also you will discuss more about counter punching because I'm struggling in it. Every time someone attack me all I have to do is cover and wait for my turn. I feel like a punching bag.
The pulling technique for the punches really helped me to keep my balance while punching early on. I pull with my hips tho, my shoulders kinda just follow.
Mr. V. Great reminders of what my boxing coach said to me. One, stop hitting like a karate guy and snap it. You are spot on sir about the reverse punch. Two, you tip on the mechanics is spot on. Oh, yeah, the chin. Spot on. I am sport boxing guy, nothing more. Keep up the good work sir.
i want to learn kickboxing,I m beginner and i need complete series from basic to advance.
You are pro in kickboxing and i want to learn from u

Tip 3 is the tricky one I find hardest to lock in. Not that I don't know to do it but it's the one to easily forget and get lazy. Plus it feels counter intuitive when doing some moves.
Could you make a video on how to flow when sparring or shadow boxing?
Id like a tutorial on how to do haymakers (couldnt really find that one) and overhands
I ordered an x-martial rash guard because you supported them. My experience with the company was not pleasant.
Hey gabriel! Your insight is always clear and helpful. Regarding the pull back of the opposite arm; I try and stay aware of my lats and their activation in my punches! Its not second nature yet- something i practice on the bag- but it definitely helps drive that push/pull and add even more power in the punch. Where can we send sparing or fight video for insight? Thanks again !
I'm very impressed with your punching....this video is probably overdue, since everyone in the west punches , but not everyone is sharp
Can you do defense and footwork like a pro next please?
Can you do a tutorial on the front kick that Chingiz Allazov throws a lot to the face? He throws the kick in such a weird way that I haven't seen in kickboxing.
I would appreciate the Same Video for kicks
Can you make video about Alaverdi Ramazanov
Woah
Do one for round kicks pls 🦶
Point 2 was a real difference-maker for me when I figured it out. Helps to really activate the lats 🙂
Any chance you can do a common issues with lead leg round kicks? Mine are so inconsistent; sometimes they've got good pop, other times they're like a wet noodle, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong 🤔
Hey Gabriel , big fan of yours .
I am struggling with seeing those wide looping hooks . These wide hooks thrown by people with really long arms . Any tips ?
Make sure your glove position isn't blinding your view of them. A hand adjustment may be needed.
Hey gabriel, you may have already done a video on this and i’ve just missed it but I was wondering if you had any tips for a 15/16yo looking to start getting into shape and wants to work on stamina and fitness, a little bit of strength but stay relatively slim. I’ going for by black belt in jujutsu in august and need to find a balanace between strength and flexibility but don’t really know where to start.
Thanks
I haven't done a video on that yet. That's a lot to cover in writing so I'll have to talk about it in an episode.
I'll add it to my request list.
@@GabrielVargaOfficialgreat thnaks grabriel. Real appreciate it.
Top 2 knuckles or bottom 3 knuckles
For punching?
Hi
Excellent, thank you!
Trying to add the dutch guard to my Karate-based style, I have one question/concern: I usually throw the punch from shoulder-height, and when I have to throw it from head-height (due to the guard) I feel I'm losing power. How do you reconcile that? To drop it to shoulder-height first would be telegraphing, so that doesn't sound like a solution either...
BTW: Thanks for pointing out what very few seem to have understood about the "hikite", the pulling back of the hand to the side in Karate (which has always been intended as a way to practice). I just like to add that all the great Senseis that I've had, have pointed out the importance of the dynamic principles you mention, ie not being rigid but "punching long".
Take this with a grain of salt, punching and kicking isn't really my specialty, but:
You do always lose a bit of power because the hands, especially the rear hand, aren't in as optimal a position for punching in the Dutch guard as they are in the usual karate stance or the "traditional" boxing stance, and you stand more squared and therefore can't get as much rotation into your body, the guard is optimized for protecting the head. The left hook becomes a bit stronger though.
To minimize that loss of power, I would recommend ensuring your elbows don't flare out ("chicken wing") when you are in your stance. Your forearms should be in front of your shoulders and rather inside the shoulder width than outside of it, packed tightly and ready to fly forward.
@@penttikoivuniemi2146 Thank you for your response! And don't sell yourself short; all finns know how to fight! :)
Agree with the "chicken wing" etc; that is hammered into us in Karate as well.
@@andersjohansson6458 Yeah, I'm pretty sure the "chicken wing" is something of a universal no-no. Might still be worth checking for even if you are aware of it, the different guard may be making you do it more than what you would normally do.
Mr Varga when can we expect online coaching
Definitely in 2023!
@@GabrielVargaOfficial I would also be interested. Please start doing it!
Yh I can only get to training twice a week because of family but I’m training on the bag every other day before I head to work. So could really use more of your help
