I have returned to this poem after visiting the Hardy family home and Max gate in Dorset. This annotation is excellent and fits into the personality of Thomas Hardy which I felt when making my visit.

What is it that you say at 10:17? "There are a number of ___ in this stanza as well." In the U.S. we say commas....?

Callie Gunzenhauser Hi Callie, the term I used was 'caesura' - this means a pause within a line of verse (usually created using punctuation such as the commas here).
