I was at this recording at Bailey Cathedral in Detroit, MI. It was absolutely unforgettable. She forever gained a fan with the way she turned this entire album out. I still listen to it to this day. The Clark Sisters are pioneers. Your review of this song is spot on, it is a difficult song that she makes look effortless.

When people ask what album reminds me of my childhood, the answer is always Finally Karen for me. My family is SDA and my mother played this EVERY sabbath morning for months. Before my sister was stringing multiple sentences together, she took her pacifier out and sung this song word for word. We were shocked. My sister learned how to sing by listening to this album. This lime green CD cover is engraved in my mind forever. Karen Clark-Sheard is a top 3 singer ever in my eyes. You definitely did her justice with this video. God bless her

So I was Baptist until my dad passed then my mom took us to the SDA Church when I was like 11. I was rebellious but like you I've come to appreciate some of the doctrine. Growing up a white Catholic kid with what he thought was a little bit of soul who just loved good singers, I thought I knew great singers. Then I heard this for the first time and I realized that if Karen Clark Sheard is not in your discussion of the objectively greatest voices of all time, you can’t be taken seriously.
Don’t forget that she had braces in this video. When you have braces a lot of time it also makes you talk and or sing in a way so that your braces don’t get caught on the interiors of the mouth. Still outstanding singing by First Lady Sheard while wearing orthodontics. Haha she can’t be beat! EVAA!
I love how Karen made it her own! This song was on their album Heart and Soul back in 1985 and then Karen did it on her debut album Finally Karen in 1997. Detroit's own!!!!!! I love how they remained in Detroit and surrounding areas!

Lord, my mom has an old VHS with The Clark Sosters singing You Brought the Sunshine. We wore that VHS out! Karen has always been effortless and continues to be. A much welcomed breakdown, Jaron. ❤❤❤

Her mother, Dionne, they also say her grandmother was a great singer, leyonte price a well known opera singer who's also Whitney's cousin. Singing background for chaka and Luther, watching aretha recording sessions in person. Singing along side all the winans clan etc. Whitney was never intimidated by other singers. Whitney's "I am changing" in london Wembley Or "A quiet place" shows just how much of a gospel singer she was and if she would have stayed gospel she would have probably ended up recording with the clark sisters.

Literally JUST finished watching the Finally Karen taping like 30 mins ago. I remember seeing it as a little girl and I still cannot get enough!
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL❗I'm intrigued how you said her voice was light and clear during this era because a friend an I always say her voice was heavier here than on her next two albums. I felt it had more weight and a certain rasp than before her medical issues.
I remember Donald saying her made her rehears her adlibs so the recording could be clean. EVERY LICK WAS PERFECTION! Recording in her home church where so many albums and musicals took place created a sense of comfort and she's eased through this recording. I love this album and I've been listening to "Couldn't Tell It If I Tried" the last couple of days, another masterpiece..
