I just rented a Tesla Model Y for 3 days for $175. Your price was crazy.

Woah, thank you for this video. I did not expect you being seen as liable for a rock cracking your windshield simply because it hit the ground first. Now I know what to look out for!

Lmao this video is the worst case scenario that I always picture in my head when rejecting their insurance.

Good things to know Se! I said if I ever drive a Tesla, someone else let me drive it or I rented it. I’m always reluctant to get insurance and stuff on top of the car after I heard that some of my own car insurance will be applicable to my rental.
    Thanks for the video!

Hey Mike! So glad you watched it! Yeh I never used to get insurance on top of my own when renting. Now I know. They also make the claim process extra convoluted if you use your own insurance.

Wow that price was so expensive, I just rented a Tesla from hertz for 12 days for a total of 860 dollars and that is including insurance so I was completely covered, also, can I ask where is the usb connection for the dashcam video saving option? I never saw any usb a connections, just the four usb type c.

I am renting a Tesla right now. I’m charging it to my AmEx card, and I pay an extra $25 per rental for their premium coverage. The last time I had an issue (someone backed into the car in a parking lot), I just called AmEx, they gave me a claim number and questions they needed answered. I handed that to hertz when I filled out there incident report. About 6 weeks later I got emails from Hertz and AmEx letting me know the damage and that it had been settled. We’ll worth the $25 up front to ensure no hassles after an accident.

I signed up for the Amex premium coverage and then made my Hertz reservation. I see the Hertz hold/charge on the cc but haven't seen the premium coverage charge show up yet. Does it bill for the premium when you actually pick up the car and the full charge goes through?

    • @docw6055
      @docw6055 Před rokem

The $25 charge does not appear until after you turn the car in, since the rental is not actually charged to your AMEX until then. But you are covered as long as you opted into the coverage before the rental started. This is a special premium service that has to be opted into; it is different from the standard coverage AMEX offers with their cards.

Did you check with your credit card company? Most credit cards cover insurance rentals as Secondary insurance. My chase credit acts as primary insurance and will cover me before my actual insurance.

Be careful - Chase Sapphire Preferred states in the terms that Tesla is considered a luxury car and luxury cars aren't covered.

Hi Michael! Today is the big day! It won’t be a simple story to tell since something was wrong with my Lightning when it arrived. It will take some time to make the next video. I will however update everyone about today on my Community tab on this channel. Thanks for asking!

Renting a Tesla from Hertz is an AWESOME way to experience an EV, charging, the driving, etc! 👍🎉🤠 I guess it depends on "where" you are and which Hertz location you are renting it from. 👉*TIP #1* ...I rented one from my local "neighborhood" location, rather than an airport location, which I highly recommend. I actually got the "manager's special" thru Priceline (where the Hertz guys decide what vehicle to give you) for like $35 a day, for a couple of days ...I paid around $82 with taxes and fees, total for two days, and they gave me a Tesla!
....The "Damage Waiver" through Hertz (where I live) is only $26 per day. So not too bad ...BUT 👉*TIP #2* , you can get your damage waiver protection through "Priceline", if you order through them, for only $13 per day! ....In addition 👉*TIP #3*, the credit card (Chase) that I put all my rentals on also has FREE built-in damage waiver protection! ...So check with your Bank!
👉*TIP #4* - If you don't have your own insurance - say you don't own a vehicle - you can still get a policy thru GEICO, and other companies, for "Liability" for around $20 a month. This protects you against any damage, if YOU cause it, outside the car, to private property, other vehicles, etc. ("Damage Waivers" only pay for damage TO the rental vehicle). .....I have one of these policies, along with the damage waiver from my credit card.
Great video! .....I think I need to make one myself now - LOL 😉 ...So sorry this happened to you, especially for your first experience renting an EV, but the actual chances of this happening are so low. I've rented for years and never had anything happen. So I hope that those checking this video out will not be dissuaded from renting a Tesla (or any vehicle) from Hertz, or any other company really...
👉 *TIP #5* ....You can also rent EVs, Teslas and others, thru other places, such as an App like "Turo". In this case, you're dealing with a private owner, who has their own insurance on their vehicle, along with extra insurance, because they rent it out. They no doubt have zero-deductible glass breakage. In any case, you won't have the extra "fees" like with a rental company, and can work something out with the private owner....
I had a TON of Fun 😊 as well as learned a lot, and got to experience the features, driving & handling, charging, and so forth with the Tesla. It was AWESOME! ....In fact, I am renting another Tesla tomorrow for a couple of days, and I am considering buying one myself 💜😎

Sort of related to tip #4 - The way I understand it, if you own a car and have a policy with liability coverage - that should cover you on any car you drive. Does that sound right?
