- There was late drama at the Leigh Sports Village as we came back from behind to seal a well-earned point against Manchester United.
An early goal from Stina Blackstenius gave us the lead but we were undone by the hosts through Leah Galton and Melvine Malard. With mere seconds left on the clock, a spectacular last-minute strike from Cloe Lacasse stole a point from the jaws of defeat.
Jonas Eidevall made six changes to our starting XI going into the clash at the Leigh Sports Village, as Spanish defender Laia Codina earned her debut as part of a back three with Amanda Ilestedt and Jen Beattie.
Sabrina D'Angelo, Stina Blackstenius, Noelle Maritz and Victoria Pelova all joined our lineup as we searched for our first win away against the Red Devils since 2021.
With a bright start even more vital away from home, we showed our fire from the kick-off. Some great initiative from Victoria Pelova allowed our Dutch midfielder to poach Ella Toone in United's half and race towards the box. Toone, however, managed to recover just in time to block Pelova's shot.
We opened the scoring with a fantastic goal on the counter. On her return to her former club, Alessia Russo picked up the ball in her own half and turned well, unlocking Steph Catley on the left flank. In turn, Catley threaded a pass through to Stina Blackstenius.
Despite being pushed the whole way to goal, our Swedish forward shrugged off her defender and beat Mary Earps with a supremely composed finish.
Our lead lasted just ten minutes, however, after a ball over the top put Leah Galton through on goal and unmarked. As Sabrina D’Angelo tried to clear at the edge of her box, she was undone by the bounce and Galton was then free to tap home to level the score.
Undeterred, we bounded towards the hosts’ goal to try and regain an advantage. After a fantastic run down the left wing, Steph Catley fired a shot goalwards and forced a good save from Earps in the United goal.
Buoyed by their equaliser, the hosts also began to turn the dial in the final third but our backline dealt well under consistent pressure from Galton and Brazilian forward, Geyse.
Kim Little and Russo’s composed footwork at the edge of the area led to a number of close chances as the half drew to a close, yet it remained 1-1 as the two teams headed down the tunnel.
United made a strong start to the second half and Geyse dragged a shot wide of D’Angelo’s goal after some neat build-up play.
Our Gunners continued to counter well and a fantastic piece of skill from Russo to turn her marker forced United to give away a free kick just on the edge of the area, but we were unable to make anything of the set piece.
A triple substitution saw Katie McCabe, Frida Maanum and Caitlin Foord enter the fray, and they provided an immediate injection of energy.
In one particularly dynamic spell of attacking football, Lia Walti proceeded to dance through defenders in the penalty box and played a lovely ball across the face of goal but none of our arriving attackers got the vital final touch.
Russo also came close to reinstating our lead on several occasions - once, through on goal, but denied by Earps’ outstretched leg and for a second time, striking the post with superb curling effort.
It would be the hosts who would strike next against the run of play, as Melvine Malard snuck between our backline and poked the ball into the net.
Just as it seemed as though the goal would never find the back of the net despite our best efforts, super sub Cloe Lacasse struck gold. Her fantastic hit soared into the top left corner and earned us a point at the death.
Next up in the Women's Super League, we host Carla Ward's Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium. Over 28,000 tickets have already been sold and you can join us on Sunday afternoon.

THAT equaliser was a WORLDIE!
Top draw my goal of the month
Idiot typical over dramatic description 😂😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡🤡
Cloe Lacasse one of the best players to ever play in Portugal. So lucky to have been able to see her play in my club, Benfica
When I watched her first time I thought she must be a Portuguese player ...she plays like a typical Portuguese winger.
We should of won,..great move by the Arsenal manager to shake things up with 6 changes, .this is more like it
WE ARE ARSENAL ❤
Play Sabrina more Jonas. She will be better.
LaCasse goal is close to Canada thanks giving day. That’s a great gift for Canadian fans. Happy thanks giving Canadian friends.
Cant wait for Vivianne Midema to be fully back, the attack need that ruthlessly back
Or, they can START Lacasse.
😂 I agree to all the doubters and haters of the gunners watch this space 😅
The attack isn't the problem
@@bard6184it’s part of the problem actually
Did you watch the liverpool game at all?
By far the better side
Deserved all 3 points
What a goal
Man U is lucky to have a point
Most definitely I was waiting for ALESSIA RUSSO TO MAKE HER TRADEMARK WITH A GOAL TO SHUT THEIR MANAGER MIKE SKINNER UP FOR SAYING THAT SHE IS NOT HIS PLAYER ANYMORE AND IT'S MAN UTDS OWN FAULT FOR NOT SORTING OUT HER CONTRACT IN TIME PLUS SHE IS VERY AMBITIOUS AND WANTS TO WIN TITLES AND TROPHIES .😊😊😊😂🎉
That air kick was brutal 😢
The last Arsenal goal is marvelous 😊
Poor goalkeeping from the arsenal keeper
First goal, yes. But both goals came from back line errors, not keeper errors.
If first goal is keeper error then how it is a backline error??
@@markhoward7673🤡🤡🤡🤡 keepers fault totally you mug.
Reminds me of Lehman .
@@markhoward7673first one has nothing to do with backline error… I agree that the second does
great match
Lacasse Lacasse Lacasse. START HER! You'll notice a pattern.
It was a good game, a bit unfortunate that we didn’t win but one point is still a point we’ll take❤
Great to see the acceptable big performance, Arsenal Ladies & Managers 🎉🎉🎉
GOTM there! Up The Gunners!
What a Goal 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
Arsenal have not yet sort this defence 😊
nice kit
We gave 2 cheap goals😢😢
The second Goal will be Arsenal Goal Of The Month
We should have won this easily
Stupid goalkeeper mistakes!!!! 😡😡😡 Arsenal deserve and should have won the match!!!
Stupid conclusion,...'pirate', is it? LOLOL. Second goal was backline error, not keeper. First goal, D'angelo had no choice because the defence was sipping tea. The whiff sucked, yes, but the error started with the defence.
@@markhoward7673 you’re definitely a girl or 🏳️🌈
banger
❤❤
❤
we will win next game ... our girls just getting started 😊
this goalkeeper & defense mann 🤦🏾♂️🙆🏿. hopefully this horrendous mistakes are rectified. we really do have a great team. Russo is class!
Stina, Stina! Now put her on the subs bench.
Love Too Much Arsenal Women
Poor goalkeeping for the first goal, poor defending for the second but luck was also not on our side
Self sabotage
Bad goalkeeping and crap defence basically. Upfront is solid.
Conceding goals like this is very very unlucky.
Why can't do you longer videos for the men's highlights too, consistently 2 min videos. We could play a 7-7 draw against city this weekend and still only 2 mins
goalkeeper trolling
Need a new keeper it's the one position that's been ignored for too long. We cannot win the league with either of the girls in that position.
Whiff was D'angelos fault, but both goals came from backline errors, not keeper's doing.
@@markhoward7673 are you relative of that keeper?? It sounds so😂😂
@@markhoward7673 For their first goal the keeper totally missed the ball of course it's her fault. This spreads uncertainty to the defenders hence, their second goal.
💀
I thought to myself theres no fuking way they tied but then I saw WSL
2 stupid mistakes
Leah Galton goal
United's first goal is the whole women's football in a nutshell
😂😂😂😂
Lmao Arsenal goal keeper
What has happened to Arsenal ladies and women football in England where 15 and 10 years ago women’s football was so diverse, especially Arsenal ladies. And now black English players have completed disappeared in the professional era. The FA crazy decision to shut down the schools of excellences for girls major diverse cities of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and only put them in rural white areas, with no support for travel has turned women’s football in England into a white middle class sport overnight. Imagine if the men’s game did this and stopped scouting and developing working class players in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds. No Bellingham, no Saka, no Walker, No Rashford, no Sterling, no Eze, no Rio Ferdinand. This is why I can’t watch WSL. It looks like NBA in 1950 when they didn’t allow black players in the league.
I don't know the support structure in the FA, but you're right! It is shockingly white. But tell me this, with the disgusting racist fan base in Europe, what incentive is there for a person of colour, (or LGBTQ or whatever) to represent heathens that regard you as garbage?
