as you see in the comments section, like with many great shows theres not 1 clear choice..which is why the series is so good cause its not like 1 stands out above the rest in terms of writing quality...and at that point it comes down to enjoyment and personal preference/relateability...theres like 12 true choices...its that good a show

I'm not gonna lie. But in my honest opinion, the best episode of Leverage is 'The Queen's Gambit Job'. I love it how Parker stays in control while in her black leather knee-high boots. czcams.com/video/KpW5WIUr4UU/video.html

I couldn't get enough of "The Rashomon Job." While the use of Rashomon-type storytelling isn't at all unique to Leverage, it was pretty unusual within the series itself. Each person told their version of events, culminating in Nate's "But here's what actually happened" version - which itself is brilliant because Nate, fitting with his position as the mastermind/brains of the team, would have the most accurate version. Obviously, within the framework of the story, he'd just heard everyone else's versions and was able to put it all together into a cohesive whole.
There's also the attention to little details, like what Coswell, the chief of security, was carrying in the hallway. In most of the stories, he's holding a long gun (a shotgun?). But in Eliot's (and later, Nate's), it's a box. Everyone but Nate thought the security chief was this fiendishly brilliant man who was always onto them, but it's perfectly in character for Eliot to be cognizant of possible threats (i.e., when someone is carrying a weapon). So only Eliot realized that it wasn't a gun, but a box. Nate, of course, actually saw both the box and its contents (roses meant for Sophie's faux researcher).
Also: Sophie is the first to tell her story, and she encounters people who are later revealed to be Eliot, Hardison, and Parker - but they aren't played by those actors. When Eliot tells his story, he plays himself, as does Sophie. When Hardison tells his story, all three of them are now themselves, and then with Parker they are now finally all revealed. (Then there was the question of exactly how big was the knife Eliot was going to use to perform a tracheotomy on the "shrimp allergic" Hardison. And, of course, the bit with Sophie's accent. "I hate you all!")
The episode is pretty much a riot from start to finish.

    • @saberstrike000
      @saberstrike000 Před 4 lety +4

So, the true element of Rashomon is that each new perspective shifts our understanding and how even the "impartial" story is still shaded. I'm on the fence whether it is conveyed in the Leverage ep. On the one hand, Nate's story fits seamlessly and as you pointed out, has the benefit of coming last and is presented as 'the truth' without question, challenge or the subtle inconsistencies present in the other versions. On the other hand, the other four are fairly good judges of character and Nate is the only one who sees Coswell as a buffoon. Some of that might be that Coswell is on Nate's side, but I always wonder if it was to make Nate seem better. After all, the rest of the crew took care to make themselves out as calm and capable and others to be absurd, why do we assume that Nate is different?
It's still a very fun episode, certainly top tier.

I'm good with Nate not coming back, I feel his story kind of wrapped up nicely by the end of season 5. The underlying story of him rebuilding his life after losing his son and his struggle with alcoholism was played very well plus the writers gave him a happy ending. I Love it because IT contains one of my Favorit scenes, when they dig him Up IT IS Not nate AS the Leader or the Most "likely" Person Parker His Love interests WHO hugs him First, No IT IS Eliot and IT absolutely should have been without any room for question be Eliot!!!
So many Shows throw Out characterisations in favor of pushing a romance that feels wrong to the characters and she Show does Not. IT does Not sacrifice Other relationships or WHO the characters are for the romance!!!
Eliot IS their cavelary, He IS the physical embodyment of safety ro them. No Matter the ods and Situation, He IS there you know He will Not let anything Happen To you. Parker in the Other Hand IS compleatly overwhelmed and Not really able to Provide Support in that Moment. Hardison latching in to him and Eliot needing to confirm for himself, that He has Not failed keeping hardison alive Just makes the Most Sense!!! Of cause everyone Cares, but given ITS His one objectiv, Eliot Cares differently.
Most Other Shows would have the boys Fight over her instead of Eliot helping them manage to get togeather and stay togeather! Most Other Shows would have found IT more importent to established the romance, then hardison and Eliots friendships but this Show Made the perfect choice!!!

I actually procrastinated watching season five for YEARS because I felt that the Last Damn Job was just the single best ending they could have given Leverage, and I've seen too many shows go downhill after running for too long. Then season five ended up being more like an epilogue to seasons 1-4, and I loved it anyway. It felt like a season-long "where are they now" rather than a pure continuation of the story.

The "Last Damn Job" is my favorite, a hard to pick choice, as almost every episode has food for thought, and meaningful lines that are full of love and wisdom, but "Last Damn Job" gave a satisfying ending with the 'accidental' deaths of Dubenich and Latimer, the creeps who personally affected Nate, but he did not pull the trigger, which took a lot of personal strength. "The Long Good-bye Job" was a tearful favorite, hubby and I were mortified the first time we watched it, seeing Parker, Hardison and Eliott die, Sophie dies, and Nate grief-stricken was gut-wrenching!!!! It was such a relief to have a happy ending, bittersweet as it was to say good-bye to Sophie and Nate, but knowing they would have a life together was so wonderful. And, having Parker as the 'new Nate' was cool, even though this may not carry over in the reboot. As shows end, so many are unsatisfying, but "The Long Good-Bye Job" was beautiful. Hubby and I watched every season during self-isolation the started it over, and are now on the 4th round of watching each season, our nightly must-see two episodes hobby. And we notice something different every time!

I sort like the ideal of bringing in Sterling as Nate's replacement. That would be fun. Maybe flesh out Elliot's black ops history and his fall and rise a bit more. His background out of all the characters feels the most disjointed.
My least favorite episode had to be the DB Cooper Job. It just felt sort of off for me.
While my favorite is the Rashomon Job. It was fun having the same scene play out told from each character's perspective, getting more clues to what really happened. You get great chemistry between the characters and the actors get to flesh their skills a bit.

Kind of hate the idea of Sophi coming back. She and Nate sailed off into the sunset together. I suppose in a reboot they'll come up with an excuse for their breakup. But when she and Nate left, that left Hardison, Parker, and Elliot as a core, which was good. They didn't need Nate and Sophi at that point, although they could have other recurring characters joining the team - Tara (Jeri Ryan), or Maggie, and certainly Sterling. I was going to say Detective Bonano, but sadly he passed in January of this year (2020).

I'm so glad Carnival Job was on your list, it's one of the best. My fav episode will always be Grave Danger, because I'm in love with Parker and Hardison and they both have great growth in that ep. Another one I really like is season 5's First Contact Job. It's just a good example of the team dynamics to me. You've got great moments with Eliot and Hardison teasing each other, you've got a side plot about Parker and Hardison trying to figure out their relationship, and you've got gratuitous Star Trek references. All that said, I could sit here and list episodes forever. I love them all. (But I 100% agree abotu White Rabbit!) I disagree with your opinion on season 5, though, I really like it, and I really enjoy the episodes like Rundown (my second fav episode), Frame Up, and Broken Wing that don't feature the whole cast. I really like the deeper looks into each character/dynamic, plus it's pretty evenly broken up, I think. My seasons ranking is 4, 3, 5, 2, 1.

I think the only way to not have Nate come back with Sophie, is for him to have died. Of course my hope would be that in the last episode we discover he was alive and absent for "reasons." I'd also enjoy some sort of "Library / Leverage" wink & nod. Not a crossover, but some strategic cameo's maybe. I'm sad that Hardison won't be, can't be, a regular. And I don't want Sophie and him to be split, and I can't imagine how they'll handle this. But I'm looking forward to the return.

honestly their are too many episodes for me that i loved. so many were good. i loved the juror one when parker was on jury duty, the chef one, again too many to count. yet i liked season five for splitting up the team. it showed me that the crew could handle things it all became clear when i rewatched the show. parker was alone and injured yet she conducted a plan saved a young girl and stopped a bad guy basically by herself. so, i think this was nate's test to see if parker would be the brains. then when elliot, parker, and hardison did a job by themselves i think it was another way for nate and sophie to see that they could go their separate ways. small settle hints thus leading up to the final.as much as i would loved a new series of leverage. i am worried for hardison won't be there making me fear they will end his relationship with parker, same goes with nate and sophie. and i may have to see them be paired with someone else. i mean i won't be too upset yet i grew to love these characters and the relationships they had. plus it would be cool to see parker as the new brains and see how she can handle things without nate. like i said part of me wants it yet part of me is happy with the way the show ended. i'll just have to learn more about the new show to see if it will be just as good as the original leverage. thanks for the video.

*The Long Goodbye Job (season 5, episode 15). This feels like season one and is the best season finale ever. Every time I watch this episode, I cry from the moment that Alec drops in the elevator shaft to the end
*The Homecoming Job (season 1, episode 2). It gives me hope that maybe one day the real bad guys will lose. Maybe modern day A-teams and Robin Hood’s will arise and complete Impossible Missions to provide Leverage to those that have been wronged and give us back what we need.

I think the two big episodes in series 5 where they were all split off were meant to be kind of proof-of-concepts for spin-offs with Nate and Sophie as a married(of sorts) couple solving crimes involving posh people killing each other like an English murder-mystery show with Sterling showing up from time to time and Parker, Elliot and Hardison in an action series kind of like the A-Team with Cnl Vance(Adam Baldwin) showing up to occasionally give them work.

The first episode where Nate comes to find Sophie to work with the team there was some Incredible chemistry--but once his drinking came into play I had a hard time believing that she'd be at all interested in him. He was just gross. He functioned kind of like the narrator, something that kept the story together and moving, but not remarkable in and of themselves.

I wonder if they're going to kill off Ford to explain his absence? It would be a real bummer of a start but make sense as to why everyone is back together, including Sophie, since I'd expect her to stick around Ford and probably join him in a "retirement" of sorts. I have a feeling Devlin will do something more creative than that, but it's totally an option I know he'd be able to pull off. ( _Moreau comes back after being in a blacksite prison hellhole for years and kills Ford._ That would be f*cking _NUTS_ -and I kinda love it- )

I was thinking something like that. He's supposed to be a recurring character, so maybe he's still part of the crew, but just not in every episode. We waited too long to see he and Parker finally hook up, I hope they're still together.

Wait... revival is in the works or just the "Let's see if we can sell it" phase???
The Van Gogh Job , The DB Cooper Job, and The Last Dam Job are some of my faves.
I really enjoyed the characters they brought in on The Last Dam Job.
They did such a good job of the flash backs in The Van Gogh Job and The DB Cooper Job. Oh and my heart... the love story on The Van Gogh Job!
Some of the jobs that got really complex seemed a little too much for such a small team at times.
The Run Down Job really showed the team could be whittled down and still work well. I don't see how they are going to make it without Hardison on the team. I understand schedule conflicts but it will not be the same and some fans will not like random technology experts popping up and may scream if "Chaos" (Will Wheton) is brought in. As for Sterling, he's the guy you love to hate. If they try to make him part of the team the fans are going to recall he is not the mastermind Nate was.

Its in the works. Dean announced it in May. They are supposed to start filming in either July or August in New Orleans.

@@melissamcfarlin6840 I completely missed the announcement, but since it was in May then that makes sense. May has been insane in our family.
      Thanks!

@@melissamcfarlin6840 Oooh NOLA in July/Aug!? They may want to wait another month *lol*
Anyone near the Gulf will tell ya those dog days are 115 in the shade from NOLA to Mobile, the skeeters will eat you alive, and lookie lookie hurricane season is in full swing!
I already told the family to pray Mother Nature is just too tired to bother with us this year

To be honest, most of season 5 episodes are not really good. White Rabbit didn't click and not believeble for me.
My best season is season 3 cause the main villian Moreau is so good.
