- In this video essay, I dive into the problem with Disney and Star Wars, and why Disney has struggled to get anything great out of the franchise since they brought it back in 2012. I also explain why the newest installment "The Acolyte" is everything wrong with "Disney Star Wars". I review the show here and explain why The Acolyte is also a potential killer of the Star Wars brand (if it isn't already dead). Here are my thoughts about the future of Star Wars and if it actually can be saved.

It’s not fully dead, if Disney gets its shit together, or if the franchise gets bought by an outside party, then there is a chance. However, I feel that the only way this happens is if they follow the original plan that George Lucas left, but this requires Disney or whoever to keep their corporate fingers out of the stories they are trying to create.

If I see L. Headland in interviews taking Ep. 7-9 as her reference instead of the original movies and getting away with this at Disney I doubt there‘s reason for hoping for any improvement.

I have been disappointed with Disney Star Wars to the point where The Acolyte being as bad as it is doesn't surprise. Outside of Rogue One, Andor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, I haven't liked much of Disney Star Wars. Also, I hadn't The Mandalorian or Rebels, so I don't have any thoughts on those shows.

If some random guys want to destroy Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, fine. What I do not understand is why the companies are burning money by making the same mistakes over and over. Where are the stakeholders?
Yeah, I wonder why we keep getting shows or movies with a high production budget, for them to see a fan film on CZcams doing a much better job, of catching the feeling and vibes of these franchises.

I cut school the first day to see A New Hope in the theatre. A friends older brother worked at the theatre and I, and a few others, got to see it about 5 times that day. And now I will be ending my Disney+ subscription when this show is over. I have my DVD set of Clone Wars Animation, all 7 season, Rebels and I will be getting Bad batch when all 3 seasons are out. The only thing on D+ I am holding out on is a show made by someone else but shown on Disney. And I have the entire show in order from the country of origin with the bits Disney censored left in. And the episode they did not show as well. Thank dog I bought a no region DVD/BR player a few years ago for a different show. Insofar as I am concerned, I am done with Disney. And it's the writing that is bad. The DEI stuff is inconsequential, it's the crappy writing.
Yeah, and the sad part about all of this is that you will be seen as a hater, because “you can't like something that isn't from George Lucas” or “Can't face Star Wars to change”. Disney sees us as the problem and not their bad decision-making, that is the worst thing about this.
These people Lack even a basic understanding of the source material. This is who is getting hired for these jobs? It feels as if they give zero F*cks about respecting this widely beloved story that they have been given the opportunity to be in charge of? They don't comprehend how much they don't understand Star Wars. So much so that IT HURTS! (They also don't understand anything about quality storytelling/ character building & world building as a whole) Yet these people act like They deserve these positions? Out of all people, HOW are these who they want to be creating Star Wars content..? It's ridiculous.. I don't understand how things have gotten this bad that NO ONE can step in and Fire all of these inadequate people..? The world needs people to put their ego's aside and just bring in truly passionate and gifted individuals artist's, actors, writers, set designers, sound design, you name it, we need a shift that shows improvement.. Things have been bleak for far too long. If they could bring in selfless, talented and passionate people it could really help get ourselves out of this depressed hole that we've been stuck in. This feeling is a natural response if all we have been seeing is these soulless detached narcissistic individuals are who is in charge. It's awful, it's fake and it's forced. They don't just Not grasp Star Wars. They don't understand the creative process as a whole..
There's genuinely talented people out there who haven't gotten a chance to work on projects such as this and I really think it's time those people get the chance to work on these projects.
Random Honest question: When it comes to the Acolyte, What is so SPECIAL about Osha and Mea for them to be the Main focus, the Main characters, etc. She has ZERO personality, 0 depth, 0 intricate aspects to her character.. Yet we are supposed to believe All off this is occurring around the twins as the main focus...? She has the personality of a cardboard box. There's so many things that are very wrong with this sad attempt at telling a star wars story.. There's so many issues with this story tho.. None of what they have made actually portraits accurate star wars, accurate jedi, etc. etc. How did this cost $180 million..? It seriously does not make any sense
This show comes off so cheap & tacky.. It's not just the terrible writing & terrible acting. It's horrible set design, horrible world building, horrible camera work. It all makes this show feel so small. Like it's filmed in a single green screen room.. Grasping at awful CGI techniques to try and force any bit of a false reality into this mess of a show.
It's so far from Legitimate Star wars movies that it feels as if this whole thing is a big parody.. A very expensive parody..

I cant bring myself to watch the show but if i had to say ANYTHING Positive ... even from the clips I have seen ... it IS that considering what she has been given ... Dafne Keen and even her character seemed interesting. I am just thinking of this show (which when i heard about it years ago i thought it'd be more on Tenebriss and Plaguous ... BUT whatever) was well written or just copy and paste Dafne's character into a different series) how much better it'd turn out.
I will never speak for "everyone" but i know a few ripping this show apart that point out how Dafne did a pretty good job consider what she was given ... I am apparently not the only one who feels that way

I am not going to even act like i remember the plot points but i remember seeing Rey in "What if Episoide 7 8 and 9 were actually good" (three different videos) here on YT and i thought THAT REY was a great character ... it was not on Daisy or any of the actors that the entire new set of movies (note: i still say Rogue One is in my top 4 ... at least top 4 mind you, SW movies).
Like SW Theory keeps saying ... "We just want good SW stories man... good well written characters and good stories"
Hell, the morons keep doing the "you're and -ist .... AND a -phobe" BS .... when some of my favorite characters for instance are women ... Padme, ventress, Ahsoka, Jyn Urso (sp?), Merrin (yes a video game character), (Clone Wars) Sabine ... (nothing against the actress but that just didn't feel like Sabine in the live action show) and hell a character I love and i DONT want to see again ...because Disney will fuck it up .... is Shin ... I love all these characters and I am even sure i forgot one or two of them.
posted that before watching more ... I agree ... I generally like most of the animated stuff ... Andor even if some (say SWT) say its slow at times and "doesn't feel like SW" ... heck i like the show and I cant disagree with him on that. Doesn't take away from me liking the show.
and as I said at "WORST" even without that really cool part with Vader at the end ... Rogue One is in my top 4 at number 4 .. maybe higher (cant decide what of the original 3 movies, i'd move to 4 is the only issue)
also all that "people are against women" shit makes no sense since i have seen some shows that for instance The Acolyte is compared to ... and i ADMIT i am almost done with the first episode of season 1 (have to be fair) of House of the Dragon ... and THAT is a well written show i can tell already. I like it

If you actually watch it and pay attention you would've noticed it doesn't even come close to qualifying for the term 'Decent'.. Character motivations keep changing, myriad of plot conveniences and the worst written dialogue I've ever seen in any Star Wars media. It's fine if you enjoy it, but quit spouting the BS that people that don't like it haven't watched it. Worst of all they have a similar budget to House of the Dragon and that show is miles better with a longer runtime per episode to boot..
At this point, even the SW Holiday Special feels like "Citizen Kane" compared to this queer/diverse/idiotic garbage called the Acolyte...
But remember that WE are the problem, not them
