Next time try using some 20lb test monofilament fishing line to release the silicone between the end and side of the glass, it works very well. (just need a tiny hole it the silicone to slide it through the use it like flossing your teeth sliding up and down) I hope this tip helps you keep your glass intact for any future reseal/rebuilds. 😉

After I resealed my 125 gallon tank twice in 6 months only to be woken up again by my water alarm that sits under the tank (A MUST HAVE ITEM) for the tank leaking. I transferred my fish to another tank and draining this one again (A LOT OF WORK). And with that I was fed up and was ready to just buy a new tank instead, that was until I saw the prices of new tanks for that size. Any where from $600 for glass to over a $1000 for acrylic.. Then I read that resealing tanks are is only temporary fix. I wish I would have read that the first time.
I decided then to dig deeper into this. Next I took the bottom frame off so I could see what my seals looked like. I could see a gap when pressing against the glass along to rear edge where the glass meet the side glass. So I then cut the seal around the bottom and took the bottom piece off. Cleaned the glass up and laid a new line of silicone on the lip of the side glass and with help put the bottom piece of glass back on. I then tacked the bottom frame back on in place, and flipped the tank over so the bottom glass was now facing the ground. I then sealed the inside of tank with another coat is long the inner edge. The weight of the tank pressed the glass together creating a firm seal. The problem was fixed for only $8 bucks and it was fairly easy to do. 😀

Anyone still looking at this video, just know that silicone cant stick to silicone once it cures. What that means is, you have to remove every panel and clean, and assemble like a new tank, with all silicone being wet at the same time, to cure as one. Thats the seal. When you remove one panel and replace it, youre creating weak spots where old and new silicone meet. You will have problems later. Do yourself a favor and just do it right once. It should last another 20 years if properly set up after a rebuild.

Hi, great job on this video. However, on tome marker 5:57 I see you're placing a bead of silicone inside some where, but I can't see exactly where. I wonder if you might be able to help me and share some light on one part in particular. I am currently going to attempt putting back together my 55 gal tank, as I had to pull it apart, due to a separation of the adhesive silicone that actually bonds the panes together at the bottom piece. So, deciding that all that all the silicone might be compromised due to age, I pulled all pains apart and removed All the silicone.
My dilemma is that my tanks 4 side glass panes do Not sit on the bottom glass. They actually go past the bottom pane and rest on the bottom of the plastic trim frame. Then they sorta lean against the edge of bottom pane. I really don't know how to correctly and evenly apply the proper bead of adhesive silicone one glass at a time or which ever way its done. I don't know if to start with the long or short panes. I do however know the tank is supposed to be put back together while inside the plastic trim frame.
I watched that guy "Joey" aquarium builder, where he pulls a tank just like mine apart, but Never showed How to re-assemble it inside the frame. I know there must be other folks out here who may be facing the same, but with no help.. I feel someone should have made a video where the camera is should step-by-step the siliconing of this particular section.
Most of these videos seem to be about a year old or so, I'm just hoping someone can check their CZcams channel and answer peoples questions or comments. I appreciate your time. John

    • @yg7059

usually the bottom is tempered but sometimes manafactures will toss in a random tempered panel on a side so you should test all the panes before cutting

You guys are too hard on him. Maybe he just wanted to practice and learn. Sure you could get a 55 used for less time and money but you don't learn how to rebuild a tank that way. What happens when you want to rebuild that 210 pre drilled tank that cost $1000? I wouldn't want that to be my first rebuild.
