    Thank you so much for all the time and care you put into this video! It’s extremely helpful! I have been trying to date a few of my favorite pairs of Levi’s that I have had since high school in the ‘90s-at that point they already were quite broken in and seemed like vintage. Unfortunately, most of the ink on the paper-like care tag has rubbed off or the tag has been cut out (probably by me); the back patch is only intact on one but is crumbling. I never knew about the number on the back of the button so it was great to learn that was there. Very well-done & helpful video.

    I have a pair of vintage orange tab dark wash bootcut Levi’s (575). From this video and also from what I read it appears that the were made in the USA in 01/1987. They are in very, very good condition. I’d say the only thing that is wrong with them is the iron line they have which is not horrible though. People used to iron their jeans to get that crease. I actually considered getting them tailored in the legs and wearing them (fit me perfect) but my love for keeping them true keeps me from doing it.

    Really nice video, great job for sure. I'd make a small correction regarding your comments on the CW designation, it's my understanding the CW stands for cut week as you mentioned, but when you read the date, you said it was from March of 2016, but it's my understanding the 03 is the 3rd. Cut Week out of 52!!!! So a garment made lets say 1216, would have been made at the end of March, not in December!
    Such a great company, and a true example of what America is all about IMHO. I was surprised to learn the original jean material came from the Mills in New Hampshire, the wool linings on the trucker jackets also came from Troy NH. Well done, and if I'm not mistaken Levi's started the Red batwing, before the Black batwing, but the red batwing returned.
    Again great job, karma has a Big E jean Jacket coming your way LOL, have a great summer!!

    Thanks for this video, it gave me some good info. Yesterday I found an Orange tag 40505 0215 bottom left of the Label. In the bottom right corner, below the W36 L 30, it reads SFG14 100% cotton is printed above the #. The right side of the label next to the words Made in USA is WPL423. Main Button # 575. Care tag (1 label) is thick wax-like paper, Next to the 575 # its read S 45 116. What do you think I have here? I'm lost on the care tag #'s. My untrained eye, I would think this pair is recent, maybe re-issue because they are like new no wear, darker blue. Thoughts?

      to some degree maybe. there is a color code on the reverse of the size tag of older (pre-2012) jeans. there was a few websites i visited in the 2000's that used to have the weight of the color. so, say a 00569-0601 (Jagger) had a denim weight of 13.2 oz while a 00569-1271 (Rugged) had a weight of 12.9 oz. the weights are arbitrary in this instance. i just used 2 pairs i have and the rugged has a lighter weight and a more distressed finish.

    I believe to be vintage Levi's have to be made in the USA, and Levi's quit making jeans in the US in 2000. 3bagsfull has it right, with 501s it has to say "Made in USA" on the waist tag or it isn't vintage. If it does say made in USA you have to then use the style of the waist tag, waist button number, red tab, stitching, and inseam to determine the approximate year a pair of 501s were made. 3bagsfull is also correct that Levi's used to employ a higher quality heavy denim.

    • @clairesanchez9861
      @clairesanchez9861 Před 3 lety +1

      Hi ! I've read that when levi's introduced the red tab, they wanted to copyright not only the red tab with levi's written on it but also the red tab in itself so no brand could just add the same red tab with anything else written on it. So they had to produce a certain amount of levi's jeans with the blank red tab (and the trademark R in a circle) to justify that this little symbol was really theirs ! To me I don't think that would drastically increase the price but it surely has something special :)

    • @robertp9297
      @robertp9297 Před 3 lety +2

      That is correct... C/W = "cut week".
      ie- You'll never see a pair with "53", as the first two digits, because there are only 52 weeks in a year.
      Tire manufacturers do the same thing, at the end of the D.O.T. number.... 0216 means the 2nd week of 2016, NOT the 2nd month.

    Help! The upper right corner of my ribbon tag says FFC-D7212, CW-3812, 3269. What of these is a date??

      @ema-sineadzammit4382 Před 3 lety

      I believe the date code is next to the CW... so its the 38th week of 2012

    CW does not stand for cut week and doesn’t stand for the date either

    I have a pair of vintage black tab, not 501. Zippered. Brand new tags still on. From my fathers estate. 549 108 32500-5
    509 -0202 on inside tag. I can’t figure out what yr. 10th month? 1983? Button matches tag 549. What should I do with them. Any help appreciated.

    On my Levis the brown tag has date MAY201873. Its smaller tag. Mine are made in Pakistan with R on pocket instead of Levis

      May 20, 1873 is when was levis founded... since you said it's made in pakistan most likely its within the last 10 years, especially if it has nylon care tag.

      @@benjaminjosephdelmo910 They look fairly new. I plan wearing them myself.I guess since its levis they would be good quality.

    • @silverbeb4e
      @silverbeb4e Před 2 lety

      Means they've been produced in the 19th week of 2015

  • @frankschroth1919

    0316 isn't March 2016!!! It's the third week of January 2016! Mine says 1121 and since we don't have November 2021 yet, it means that mine was produced in the third week of march 2021.
    And you always point out the big E in the little Levis flag on the back pocket being so special. Well I bought mine last week and it does have the big E in the Levis flag in the back and was made in Bulgaria!! Can I charge big $$$$ now selling it? Loooool!! ;))

    • @silverbeb4e
      @silverbeb4e Před 2 lety

      Of course you'll be able to sell it for big $$$ if you wait another 20 yrs so they are at least vintage pair and not brand new 😉
