Hey Gang! We're seeing a lot of comments regarding the sprayer so we just wanted to clear some things up for those of you watching! In this video you'll see a "tailing" or "fingering" effect, this is caused when the sprayer pressure isn't high enough to spray the specific paint you're using. We had overlooked a key step in the instructions and it just happened to be the one discussing pressure, oops! This video is Day 1 of us using this sprayer, for years we brushed and rolled on our paints so this was a very new process for us! The video isn't meant as a tutorial, and we're super glad a lot of the more experienced painters in the comments have let us know that these traits in the spray patterns aren't the best. 5 months later we're still using this sprayer and we have it tuned down to second nature, we think this is reflected in our most recent painting video so make sure to go check that one out and let us know what you think!
As far as the paint goes it is a PPG Exterior Paint & Primer in One. 100% Acrylic Latex Eggshell color.
Hay buddy what kind of paint you use for brick. What type. And what type of sealer. So it won’t wash away.
quick question I looking to also paint my house did you go with primer first then brick paint... or used multiple coats of paint? Thanks!

great to be shown the whole process , thank you.
Awesome man, your dads a hard worker! Follow that path, with his passion!
Hey guys I’ve been laying bricks for over 40 years and I’m so glad you painted those bricks because that brick work is a shocker it’s all over the shop. Thanks for sharing love your channel and your content and editing is always awesome
Great and clear video. Easy to follow. Thanks for getting straight to showing us without a lot of fluff talk like some videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks Roy!
I think it looks great! I'm watching videos like yours because I'm about to paint my red brick house white.
I love the color you picked.
Good positive energy bro, best wishes to the company.
Thank you for creating this video
I prefer to stain brickwork rather than paint, the stain is absorbed into the brick and changes the colour of the brick as opposed to painting which is adding a layer on top of the brick which over time will peel and require constant maintenance
Wow y'all have inspired me to paint my home. Love your enthusiasm and your personalities. I live in the south too and if you lived in my area, I would hire you to paint my house. But I'm such a do it yourselfer I have to try this for myself. nice job.
Looks great fellas! Nice job!
Great piece of equipment, have used one for years. A little trick I learned from an old time painter: Buy a box of knee high nylon socks. Place one over the inlet pipe to the airless. Great filter. Throw away after use.
I've been doing that exact same thing except with paint strainers. Those knee highs are probably much cheaper 👍
Really enjoyed this video. It’s really nice to have a close up view of everything.
No worries on the learning curve for the sprayer! After 50-100gal you will master it! Also one tip (I see in the comments you use filters) I always poured into a fresh bucket. A lot of the 5Gal buckets from local stores can get goopy at the bottom after sitting and you spend too much time fighting boogers. Depending on the size of the job, I open all buckets and pour ~25% from 2-3 buckets through a piece of aluminum windows screen I had on a "frame". Close up all buckets and pump from the "clean" bucket.
Pressure is too low and MAKE SURE you,re using the right tip 311 / 417 this will eliminate fingering as well as backrolling will. Keep getting it you guys. Love your channel
Added tip, hook hose up to the inlet and recycle paint from hose back into the bucket with the sprayer line, spray into paint bucket until water just starts to come out. That saves about a quart if you have a 50ft line.
Yeah I do that now 👍
I've been looking to get into this pretty good machine for a beginner that doesn't want to spend too much money and to give you the experience the hassle might be were it clogs a lot but I loved the video thanks
Great Efforts man Love it
Awesome video!
I've been researching this sprayer. I've seen folks use paint strainers before running it through the system. Gets them clumps out. Throwing that damp rag over the bucket helps. Smart.
Thank you for the video. I recently purchased an X7 sprayer for re staining my house but I haven'y used it yet. I was wondering how difficult cleaning the machine would be. You answered this question for me. Thank you again!
Did you end up re staining your brick or did you re paint the brick? I am contemplating between the two, but would rather use a stain
Just found your channel and liking the content. Keep it coming.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for your help videos 👍🏻
At 13:42 into the video I can see a lot of paint lines on the finished wall. Did those lines go away after the paint dried? I have this exact same airless spray rig and I don't have lines like that after I paint a wall. I think he might have been holding the spray nozzle too close to the wall. Thanks,
Your Mom is a lucky woman
You guys are great
Inspiring! Starting mines in the Fall!
Excellent video thank you I just got one yesterday
Enjoy it!
Went from nice maintanance free brick to high future maintenance. Great job.
If it's newer brick yes, inspecting older brick will produce lots of problems, mainly small cracks that get worse every year. Sealing it well with paint(at least two coats) will protect it from coming apart in the future. Many older brick homes have multiple problems. Almost anything needs maintinence, an idea that escapes most people today.
I was thinking the same thing. Once you paint brick, you will always have to paint brick.
Great video mate
Always strain your paint before spraying, you won't get as many clogs. I always clean the gun filter when I'm done with a job and clean the bigger sprayer filter if you're storing for awhile.
Thanks! Yep we always strain paint now. Sometimes I put a one gallon mesh strainer over the suction tube also.
Your dad looks like an automotive painter. Good job on your first house. and the equipment cleaning.
Thanks 👍
He actually looks like a coke dealer.
Thanks for demonstration.
To get a swivel function, they use a whip hose with more flexibility.
DAM Mr.Paul is sender full send bro never lift! tagging skills on point too lol
To allow the spray head to swivel on the end of the hose could you replace the original fittings with quick connect compressor fittings, i believe they are called "type M" fittings? You and your son do some really nice work and i love your ceiling drywall tips.
Thx John 👍
Nice job
a 521 or 519 tip will eliminate the clogging you got when spraying the primer coat too....great video by the way!
Thx 👊👍
Get a lid for the 5 gallon paint cut a v notch to the little hole and use that to cover your paint then clog the rest of the hole with a wet rag and then the whole thing with a rag you'll never have to worry about dropping your rag into the paint good job brother
I’m pretty sure with the 5gal.p buckets you can leave the lid on and feed the intake tube through the spout hole on lid
Yes , alway have done this
Good job 👍
Yes they do sell the swivel and I usually use 515 tip
Thanks Jose!
You did not mention what were the primer and paint that you used. How many coats? Please share
We are considering doing the german schmear, instead of painting. Ive heard painting brick traps moisture and woukd require repainting every 3-5yrs
Keep doing what you do with your dad brother🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi, great job!! What brick primer type and paint color was that?
I think is a pva primer.
After priming do you do 1 coat or 2 on the topcat?
Thank you so much!
I would have just painted the trim to make it different looking and left the brick alone to be cleaned like new with acid washing it several times making them look good as new and I'm sure that would not have depleted the value of the home with the pait job on the classic red brick that someone paid dearly to use and the installer so meticulously sorted threw the brick to mix the pattern up installing them .
I agree ,it would also look much better
Totally agree . These hgtv shows of painting all the brick white makes everything look cheap asf IMO . If I had to do it I’d stain each brick individually . Man I despise painted brick . It just screams hack or a flipper hoodwinking some newb house buyer . No judgement on these guys I love this channel. . And because this brick is textured it doesn’t look as cheesy as paint on brick usually does
what type of paint was used
Looks nice
You should get a parasol and fabricate a bracket to keep the sun off of that sprayer when it's out in the yard. It wouldn't hurt if it starts to rain, either.
The paint job looks good. But personally I like the original look of the brick better.
I agree! 👍🏼
Brick looks ugly, dated and mossy. Sooo boring. The new color is very nice.
@@jvane28 disagree, brick will never age.. it looked fine.
@@jvane28only silly guy paints on their bricks
@@jayz2911 different people have different opinions amd likings. So you should respect them. If you can't then stfu
Can you use paint thinner and thin the paint down a lil bit when painting a brick house???
Yes, they'd have to use water since its not oil based paint. We do that sometimes with thicker primer. Typically, just turning up the pressure is all that's needed.
What kind of primer did you use? I’m going to have my brick home painted and I was told to make sure the painter uses Aqualock primer.
It was a block filler. A thick primer for painting previously unpainted block/brick👍
what block filler are you using?
We are painting are existing brick white (original white brick from 1969). Do you recommend a primer prior to painting or should the existing color suffice for the primer? Thanks
I'd check to be sure your paint will bond to the current paint properly; could be an alkyd. May have to prime over that to get modern latex to adhere. Search internet for "how to test for oil based paint" and go from there. I hope that helps
Hire a professional ffs
Nice job…did you power wash before?
The one color looks nice but I am doing my brick on the front of the house to coordinate with my new siding I had put on only I am using a light gray for the base coat of the brick and will fade two darker colors of gray sporadically on the bricks to make it look like real brick tones only in gray. I used this method on my fire place a few years ago and it gives it a tremendous look.
Wondering if Bedford stone works the same way
Fantastic job , your son should have followed behind your spraying with a roller to fill in the cracks and make it look uniformed . Also if you still have the unit , the unit is not design to last along time. You may get 2 or 3 homes and then the pump usually goes. If you get the contractor units with easy change pumps they are made too last.. oh yeah I’m sure you bought the $30.00 hose swivel.. nice job never the less..
I disagree about the pump going bad. I think you’re thinking of the handheld sprayers with hopper. Some graco models have non serviceable pump and other pro models have replacement pumps. This machine x7 and x5 can last 10-15 years as I’ve heard on CZcams as long as you maintain and clean properly. The blue pump armour is a must for long term storage and for $500-800 they are worth the buy unless you can afford to spend more from the beginning
☆GOOD JOB☆
Why use a shield if your still going to spray the foundation anyways
could you modify the cover so you can cap the open bucket while using it
Can actually fit the hoses through the can opening.
And get rid of those Rac 5 tips and guards . Rac x FFLP tips . Titan Hea . The new stuff is awesome man.
I'll check those out
As far as refilling paint leave the bucket that you're using get the new paint and pour the paint into that bucket therefore you don't have to pull it over and maybe even make a little bit of a mess or even an accident happens it's happened to me thanks brother good job
Is your house veneer or solid brick? How old is it?
Should be back rolling. That makes sure the primer/block fill gets into every crack and nook
Would also elimanate the fingeringing
If you had backrolled block fill probably would have only needed 8 gallons of paint. Savings of 300 dollars
I can see the neighbors screaming "WFT? you're getting paint all over the windows!" hahaha. I like it when a tradesman knows what he's doing, but observers are out of the loop and it drives 'em nuts
not a mention of product youre using?
Did you prime first and then paint? Or bought paint that comes with primer
One coat of block sealer and then one coat of the finish color.
Any issues with this model, I am looking to invest in the exact thing X7
Primer and paint will ruin brick where moisture is present especially if there’s winter freezing. If you must do it you should use line wash pain or a breathable paint such as a mineral based paint or a silicate paint. You will have to repaint here and there but you won’t have the premature brick and mortar degradation
What kind of primer and paint you use?
It’s from PPG. The primer was a block filler. That’s all I remember 👊
Staining is always a better choice. easier and lasts longer.
Get a whip hose for the end of the hose, it would make using the sprayer 10x easier.
Thx Jeff 👍
@@StudPack really enjoy videos, keep it up
Looks amazing! Did you use a primer?
We used PPG paints on this project. The brick was sprayed with a block filler first. A great product to apply to masonry if it's never been painted. Thanks Lorie👍
What color did you paint the house? I want to paint my house that color.
PPG paint color Thin Ice
Money well spent!
Back Roll with a heavy nap while spraying brick (2 men)
how much would you charge for that?
Please please please wear a mask. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
Did you power wash it before painting?
Yes we did 👍
I hoped you primed it with masonry primer..also you should have used concrete stain..paint will peel all o er your house in a few years!
another tip for clogging:take a strainer bag and tape it around the suction hose....
Yep I do that now👊👍
Tip - spray shield -- cover / tape up with kraft paper or newspaper.
I like it! Thanks
Great product review but why would you paint over brick???
Very common here to paint brick but I get your point👍
painting brick adds no less than 5% value to your house
Is this the same sprayer you are using today?
Yes it is thx NickyJay👍
Great job painting, but it probably shouldn't have been painted. I hope the brick has a drain gap and is well ventilated on the back side.
How's it work for masonry paint, can anyone comment on that?
works great....
LOVE THE AIRLESS...I JUST DUMP INTO BUCKET ON SPRAYER....BIGGER TIPS WORK BETTER FOR HEAVY PAINT...
You all still got / using this sprayer? It's $479 at Lowes now.
I was told that you shouldn’t paint over bricks. Supposedly it’s better to stain them.
Your going to see all your paint lines
I hope y'all added a second coat...missed spots everywhere.
Dad does all the work. Son videos.
i noticed that....lol!
Painting sucks. You guys working out there in the heat. My hats off.
Need to turn the pressure up and you need a bigger tip
What is the square feet of the house and how many total gallons of paint did you use?
painting bricks prevents them from breathing, does it not?
Can actually fit the hoses through the lid opening. And please wear a 3M respirator!!!
.
Is this in the south?
Yes Louisiana
