  • PING I530 - FLABBERGASTED - HOW GOOD IS THE I530 - IS THIS MY NEW SET OF IRONS?
    The big bad mean replacement for the Ping i525 is here, except the new Ping i530 is sleeker, subtler and thinner than ever before. Can this surprise package tempt me and be my iron of choice this year? Is it better than the other contenders; the Taylormade P770, Titleist T200 and is it better than my existing Wilson D9 irons? All will be revealed if you would just get on and watch the video instead of wasting your time reading this bit. Thanks for reading it.

    Finally somebody points out that benefit of being able to hit a shorter club. Thank you. The guys “I play blades” - right and you have to hit a club an inch longer to get the same result. Why would you do that ? Unless you think you have to be able to hit draw and fade on demand, you’re just giving it away for ego. I love to practice with my blade irons. Makes me keep my swing tight. But for score - forget it - give me the tech.

      And, finally , someone who agrees with me. It’s not just the fact it’s scientifically easier to hit the middle of a shorter club, it’s the psychological advantage as well in my book. As long as your spin rates and everything else is acceptable then why put yourself through using longer length irons when you don’t need to. I still think you can shot shape with just about anything if you’re technique is good enough.

      First of all the difference between an 8 iron and a 7 iron is 1/2 an inch, not an inch. Second of all these things are 4 degrees too strong. Why? To make suckers think they hide their 7 iron a mile. Neither of you seem to be aware that back spin is your friend when hitting irons on the course. These aren’t game improvement irons, they’re ego irons. I’ll hit my consistent i230 while you guys figure out strong lofted hollow body irons won’t help you score.

      I use a Rode Link Filmmaker kit bluetooth microphone, which I wear on my shirt, it occasionally it rubs on something and I get interference but you don't know about it until afterwards which is annoying. I was thinking of getting a big microphone which fits on top of the camera but was afraid that when I turn away from it and speak, that it will go really quiet and be even more all over the place. I'm not an expert on it unfortunately. I'll maybe try something like that and see what it's like.

      @@golffm6924 all the scoring is done from 130 and under. Your gap wedge is going to go 130 and then what? Also i find with power clubs is the dispersion front to back is quite large. The i525 there was a 30m dispersion from a 90% swing to a 95% swing.

      Hi. Not everyone hits a 7 iron 200 yards. I hit my 7 iron (31 degree) 140 yards carry. I hit this one 150 carry which is the distance I want my 7 iron to carry as it helps my club selection for different yardage. So hitting this 150 that leaves me enough clubs below (8 to GW) to handle distances all the way down to 75 yards. Below that I just three quarter a W or GW.

      I have already tested the P790 with my change of irons in mind and although I liked it, I felt it was just too similar to my existing club, the D9 Forged, with the clubhead being a little bit bigger and chunkier than I would ideally like. Brilliant club though.

    A bit late to this party and sorry, a bit long winded… Have not had a chance to hit these Pings yet and may be another month or so til I can. Surgery… ugh. Curious about these because as I have watched a few review videos from fairly well known Golf CZcamsrs there has not been a real consensus on should be playing these or maybe, who should not be. Some have said low-mid handicap, to mid-high handicap and one with a lot of subscribers and reviews stating he was not sure the Ping G series was even needed anymore. Watching your initial swings that were self described as not good you were still getting it out there and in the fairway. Then watched your G730 review not exactly like the super game improvement iron was that much better, relatively speaking. But may be much better for off center strikes. Will the i530 punish you for not consistently center striking it? Just found your channel and glad I did!! 👍👍

    • @golffm6924
      @golffm6924  Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for watching and the thumbs up. The i530 is very forgiving and doesn't have a problem with you missing the middle, it just gathers the ball up and throws it as far as it can regardless of the quality of the strike, within reason. I think the approximate handicap ceiling on this club should be around 16 with a few provisos; you shouldn't be a habitual slicer and you ideally need decent clubhead speed, because its fairly low spin due to strong lofts mainly.

    • @golffm6924
      @golffm6924  Před 4 měsíci +2

      I wouldn't normally recommend these as beginners clubs to be honest. There are even easier clubs than these to use like Taylormade Qi, or Callaway Ai Smoke, Ping G430 etc. You can jump straight to something like the P790 but it would be slightly unusual to do that and would assume some decent ability on the player's part with a fairly swift progress potential in sight. There's nothing much between the two models you've mentioned, just go by looks and maybe price if you're choosing between them but I would maybe consider other more helpful clubs before these.

    Hi - I currently play off 15 handicap and I’m working hard on improving. I’ve gone down 3 shots over the winter. Are forged heads a step too far or should I look at game improvement irons? I have currently been using M2’s for 7 years. Thanks. Brian.

    • @golffm6924
      @golffm6924  Před 5 měsíci

      The players distance irons, which often feature forged heads, are still forgiving enough for a mid teens handicap, especially if you are working on your game. The only proviso I would make is that they don't generally have much offset, so they are not trying to limit a slice in any way. If you're reasonably straight or hit a slight draw then I would definitely recommend them.

    Thanks for the content it’s great! I tested the i530 vs t200, t100, p770 & 790. For me the p790 and i530 came out on top. The i530 was longer for sure and thinner top line but a tad bigger sole. I like the looks of both and much better than my apex dcb’s. I used dynamic gold x100 shafts 130 gram and tightened everything right up with both heads. I’m going with the i530 but just having the loft issue. Should I keep stock or go retro loft. My numbers were fine with standard. I would do 5-pw and throw in 48, 54, 60 wedges and take out my 7 wood. I’m carrying the i530 7 around 205-210 or so but I live @ higher elevation. It’s not an ego thing for me I don’t need distance but if a shorter club is better 7vs6 for control what would you say in regard to weaken loft or shorter club. I don’t care about the number stamped on the club I care about what gets me a better result! Keep up the good work!
