"In today's video I managed to sneak away from the studio for a little adventure- come join me!
We travelled to the intriguing historical site of Fore Abbey in Co. Westmeath. Originally a Gaelic monastic settlement in the 7th C founded by St Féichin, it transitioned over the years, due to constant raids, fires and violent attacks from the Vikings, to the local waring tribal kingdoms. It eventually became a notable Benedictine abbey in the 13th C founded by Hugh de Lacy; Lord of Co.Meath.
It is mostly known for 'the seven wonders of Fore'; the monastery built in the bog, the mill without a race, the water that flows uphill, the tree that won't burn, the water that won't boil, the anchorite in a stone, and the stone/lintel raised by St Féchin's prayers.

I think the weather is just right. Can you imagine all tales if only the stone could talk?! The cloudy sky over the Abbey shadow past events to that property. How wonderful if you found an old sketch of this stone place of a thousand stories!❤❤
Yes, it suited the atmosphere perfectly! I must try and research if there's a sketch, would be fascinating to get an impression of how it looked when first built ☺❤☘🧚♂
Have you ever seen The Detectorists? I love that one of the main characters, Lance, sometimes connects with sounds from the past, such as horses and armor clanking. He has a keen sense of places where the ancient people have been. My absolute fav scene is when his buddy Andy finds a hawking whistle and he blows it. Andy & Lance both get goosebumps and then leave the field. As they begin to walk away the viewer sees the landscape change, going backward in time. The trees shrink and such. I won't spoil the rest but that scene alone deserves an award. It has to do with the whistle, who owned it and what happened to them. In the background you hear the mysterious song, Magpie (sung by The Unthanks). I researched that song and what it means. It was written in the 60's by David Dods, and includes an old childs rhyme: One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy. Five for silver, six for gold; seven for a secret, never told. You can find that scene on YT but then you miss some very important info...and the old round abby nearby.

I'd give my left toe to live in Ireland. And, every time I go, I explore the ancient ruins and old towerheads. This really brought me back. Thank you for your artistry! Love how you put the smiley faces in your drinks. I enjoy a good hot cup of blueberry tea in the fall and winter months. My main drink early mornings are my coffee. Your garden is so pretty! Inviting your cats into your videos are a joy to watch.

Absolutely beautiful video! I was lucky and blessed with a work trip to Dublin! Every spare moment on that trip was spent either taking a train or tour bus out of Dublin into the countryside! One of those tours was to Slane Abbey on The Hill of Slane. Honestly, it was a life changing experience! Yes, the whole experience of Ireland was life changing but there was something, special, magical and soul transforming as I walked the beautiful remains of that ancient Abbey! My heart was definitely at home there! 💚😘🙏

It makes me so happy when you take us exploring! There's so much of Ireland I didn't get to see when I was there. And I hear you about the rain - my best friend, who lives in Maine, hasn't been able to get to her hay, either. Everything's so wet there! She's maybe gotten 30 bales done this summer.

Thank you for another beautiful video. I am enchanted by your boglands. And I know on a practical level they are important for drainage. Perhaps you will have a dry autumn, and winter. Everything is changing now. Our spring has become wet (my peonies and roses were a washout last year!), and our winters drier. My partner walked into the room part way through this video, and said, 'you look like you're away with the fairies!' and I replied, 'yes, I am'.
