Welcome to the Letterman CZcams Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. These highlights have been artisanly-produced, carefully-curated, and chosen completely at random by an old computer that used to pick numbers for the New York Lotto back in the 90’s.
"Some mornings, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps."
--Emo Philips
My favorite thing about Emo Phillips is that I have no idea what any given punchline is going to be
Hey, don't I know you from somewhere?
Love you SNES drunk
Isn't that the goal of all comedy, tho?
Either way, Emo is really, REALLY good at it!!
Is Emo Phillips worth playing (his videos on CZcams) today?
@@trialbyicecream I think so.
"You have to get up pretty early in the morning to catch me peeking through your bedroom window." - Emo Philips.
That's the quote I was trying to remember. Led me on some furious Google searching to figure out his name!
Me too ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Back in the 80’s, I didn’t get/like Emo’s humor. Now, I think he was very clever. This clip made me laugh a lot. Thanks for posting it.
I’ve never really given him a chance but he’s quite funny here. Only took 38 years for me to check him out, lol.
I always thought he was funny, even back in the ‘80s. Then again, I was always into oddball and off the wall humor.
He's a comedian's comedian, probably more successful among his peers than elsewhere.
@@apexone5502]😮😮😮_;
Him getting into character was a smooth transition
Just got to see him open for Weird Al.... he's still got it!
Me too! And yes, yes he does. Way darker than I remember, and leaning hard into the anti-theism. Which was awesome.
Seeing them tonight
@@aprilpickard9161 did you enjoy the show?
@@jeffreyniehaus7033 Just saw him tonight and went searching youtube for more of Emo's stuff.
I saw him Wednesday at the Kennedy Center in Washington.
This is what comedic genius looks like! Dude was a B E A S T...man I miss he 80s!!
Them golden years.
I love Emo so much! He's currently opening for Weird Al on tour, and Emo's 30 minutes of material is worth the price of the whole thing. I would love for him to be on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. But what car would be appropriate?
One of those vans for mobile mental health?
Ice cream truck, or tandem bicycle
Yugo.
a Gremlin.
nissan figaro
Thanks, Dave for helping Emo get attention. Thank you Emo, for being Emo! Thanks Downers Grove for not being where I live! 🙃
Is that where he was hatched? I didn't know that. Lived up Highland Ave in "Lumbarrd" years ago. Would have kept an eye out for him had I known.
Yes he lived in DG not far from me!
Genius wrapped in genius topped with genius! Go see Emo as Weird Al’s opening act in 2022!
Just saw them last night. Epic!
That last one snuck up on me about having an asthmatic attack 😂 Well, played sir.
I watched him as a teen in the 80s and thought he was a little creepy but great. 40 years later and this is really not dated and is so fresh that's real incredible.
If you ever get a chance to see Imo Phillips at hasty pudding, give it a watch. I think it’s his funniest stand-up routines👍
So young there! He’s really improved his timing & delivery and his jokes are 10X funnier!😄
Oh man, this made me laugh so hard!!
The asthmatic joke was on point!!
I love seeing these unpolished early days of modern comedy legends.
Early days, yes, but even at this stage Emo had his routine and setups down pat. No lack of polish here.
I heard Emo's standup on the radio when I was a kid in the 2000s. Years later when I was 19, I did an impression of him in front of 30 and 40 years olds and everyone was surprised I knew who that was.
This is a gem
He looks like he could be Finn Wolfhard's dad lol
WOW! Emo is WAY different than I remembered as a kid. I even had his cassette tape. Shame, he should have done some bigger things.
@1:43 that’s actually an Al Capone quote.
Loved Emu.
Okay, but what do you think of Emo?
At the very end of the video clip email spits in his hand and shakes the producers hand. Pure Emo. Lolll….
He always reminded me of a court jester for a king or something
That was a hell of an episode! Tom Savini,Cheryl Tiegs, and Emo.
Seen him yesterday opening for Weird AL, what a legend!
so goood!
I'm Amy and I love you!❤❤❤❤❤🎉
he's definitely top tier and not green.
If I did nitpick, I'd say didn't laugh at all but i think he's legitimately great... it's a weird combo. maybe it just takes a second to get used to (this is my first time seeing him).
maybe it' the delivery. the material is top notch but the delivery is so strange that something throws me off.
i even may like the delivery style as a separate thing, but the mix is odd.
I think it’s the voice
Omg I laughed so hard😅
AWESOME! 👍
This is pretty good lol, damn this aired 14 days after I was born...
Which came first, Emo Philips or the term 'emo?'
Emo Philips 😁
I remember emo, and sometimes (peewee herman, ) performimg in a Austin tx club in the 1980s.
Was this ahead of its time?
holds up
Pretty sure Joaquin Phoenix is channeling Emo in Joker
I am here because of Taako.
Is that the kid from stranger things?
His grandpa.
Fun fact - Dave sent a limu to pick him up
1:58 to 2:22
Dude looos like lord farquaad
EMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
"at a pole"
so already back then they went into an ad break just to have literally no further content besides "good night"?!
Emo triggers my Restless Id Syndrome.
It's odd that Emo is his name since in the fe 90s "emo" became the term for insecure, introverted, sloppy-dressing, emotional goth personalities!
Is he Pee Wee’s brother 🤔
Not funny in slightest
Love the comedy bits, top tens, etc. Less interested in the celebrity items. Thanks
Just don’t get most of him humour, seen him the other week at a weird al yankovic concert snd think I laughed twice
I never cared for this guy. He irritates me.
Matter of taste of course, several legendary comedians love his work with Norm McDonald several times saying that this guy’s his fave comedian.
When I first watched Emo perform, I likewise thought he was annoying. Now, I find him to be really funny and believe he did a terrific job of depicting this extremely anxious, odd character on the point of a nervous breakdown. On the other hand, Bill Hicks, who debuted a little after Emo, used to strike me as smarter and funnier. Now, it's difficult to watch one of his well-known performances without cringing, and it irritates me to no end.. I don't remember him being such a conceited douche, and not as amusing or clever as I once believed.
The material is soo strong I wish he’d presented without a character.
@@1fattyfatman doesn't work without the character. He did try changing his outfit and demeanor, but it just didn't hit that right spot.
Before he perfected his presentation.
