    In my decades, I've been a firefighter/EMT, utility worker, heavy equipment operator and OTR truck driver. In whichever field I was in, if we got ourselves into a situation, that wrecker and driver was ALWAYS our best friend. Part of what you do is rescue the rescuers! Respect for that from a former trucker and Fire Dog! Stay safe out there!

      It's sad to say, but most of the public look at us like we're thieves and scum...…..That is until they need us in the middle of the night or a snowstorm etc.

      For example just last week I was riding the shoulder with my beacons on trying to reach a accident. About a mile into the backup I had some guy in a pickup pull out of the lane and block me on purpose. He then proceeded to yell and call me a thieving POS and refused to let me past. Between shouting and making threatening gestures his passenger called the Police to "report me" when dispatch informed them I was responding to a accident. The only good part was the Police were waiting for him when he tried to go past and I signed a complaint.

      Often people do that to stop the flow of traffic that just wants to get ahead of the line so they can be first to proceed. You'll see trucks do that sometimes riding 3 wide to stop the cars from trying to squeeze by everyone else.

    • @TheUserid82
      @TheUserid82 Před 5 lety +7

      @Cle Jons It comes from people that think this parking sign has no impact on me then they get towed and a $100-250 bill to get the car back from the company so start thinking of them a thieves. Yes you have some tow trucks doing illegal things but for the most part companies know they make more by being legal as they have nothing to hide.
      You also run into the scummy parking lot owners that buy the property next to a busy place in a city and put in a private lot with just enough signage to be legal but use every trick to hide it that they can like having the signs at the entrance to see as you drive out rather then places you walk past to get to a store next door or the one where they have a parking lot meter station hidden behind something so only the locals know to go get a ticket to put on the dash.

      I have said it MANY times......people keep pointing out what they BELIEVE are cones...they are not. They are fold-over dividers and are not considered cones. These are placed permanently in the pavement and are designed to fold over when driven over. They are quite common in this area due to the large agricultural environment. Given all the obstacles in this small area AND the intended content, which was the appreciation of our service men and women, I'm tired of responding to these silly comments about me running over cones.....which I did not.....the items that I drove over are designed to be driven over and they are NOT cones. So.... CAN WE PLEASE FOCUS ON THE REAL CONTENT OF THIS VIDEO?????? THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN. GOD BLESS.

    • @RonPratt
      @RonPratt  Před 5 lety +22

      @@peterbarber7613 Actually, hooking to the front of this particular bus would have made this tow much more difficult. The drive-shaft would have to have been removed and air would have had to have been supplied to the air system on the bus to release the brakes or the brake chambers would have had to have been caged. This would have added a great deal of time and difficulty to this job. I knew I could make the turn around and I didn't have to go through the processes I mentioned. So, in my opinion, this was the easiest and most efficient way to tow this bus. Thanks for watching and God bless.

      Nah - Australian Road-Train drivers make tight turns on a daily basis, all done on the worst roads as well - so turning isn't a problem to those that remember which way all the wheels turn - in or out, when towing forwards, and thus - just aim them all the same going backwards too ;-)
      Or - use a centipede truck - and simply ROTATE it all - on a center pivot point - somewhere inside it's deack area..
      which is why someone commented there,.. about: "Pulling into the local tyre shop and saying" ..
      Rotate my tyres please.. Sure - Um - All ... !!! HOW MANY?

I sand bagged everyday for a couple months or better every night after work and even some days before work. On my days off I was there for 12- 16 hours a day. I lived on 2-4 hrs of sleep all that time because the help was needed. I did that a couple more times up to the 2008 floods in the same region. I know the devastation that water can do. I pray these waters go down everywhere soon!!!! God Bless you Ron for helping out on that front line by the means of that truck!!!!

    It is now August 6. 2019. A couple of days ago I stumbled across one of your Video's Ron Pratt. Watched as you did your job in such a way as to not only impress but to show what professionalism is all about. You are courteous and respectful to all those around you. To work out in the elements is a job not that many would want to do. You go out with out a thought but to get the job done. First , thank you for the video's we get to see. Second , thank you for showing that there are men out there that show kindness and respect. Third, I have subscribed and look forward to you video's. :-) I live in Oklahoma so hello neighbor. We truly have some weird weather this year. Stay safe and thank you again for your support of our road mishaps . Gob Bless you too Ron and to your family , friends and coworkers. ^__^

    We had horrible flooding here along the Missouri in '08 as well. The local ANG unit put in a lot of time filling, delivering, and piling of sandbags along with thousands of civilians to keep the Mighty Mo in check. There was a neat story on the news of a couple driving down I-29, noticed the sand bagging effort and decided to stop and help. Why? They lived in Fargo which had also suffered massive flooding earlier in the spring and wanted to pay it forward after having their home saved by an army of volunteers.

      I rode a brand new school bus like that in about the 4th or 5th grade, back in the late 1950s. The only differences I could see were a switch instead of a lever to open the door, and probably an auto transmission rather than manual. Exact same bus 60 years later.

    Ron, first off thank you for what you do, second to our men and women in uniform, be they on foreign or domestic soil, THANK YOU for your service. Now, after watching this its hard to believe this flooding has been ongoing since last October! We here on the banks of the TN River have been dealing with it off and on since March. Prayers and well wishes going out to the First Responders, the Military and people affected by this. Based on the video title, I thought you was going "fishing" for this "Bird". Glad that was not the case. Hope "Barry" didn't get bad there or make things worse for people up that way. Stay safe and God Bless.

      I too come from a long line of military vets. My grandfather on mom's side was born in 1899 and fought in the first World War. My grandfather on dad's side drove a supply truck over the Burma Trail on WWII. My dad served 24.5 years in the USAF and had security clearance one grade above top secret. My cousin served on an escort ship for the USS Missouri on her final voyage to become a museum piece. I served in the US Army Artillery and my unit consistently dropped 350 lb shells into 55 gal barrels from 22 miles out. God bless you, sir, for your service for our beloved country.
