- After Shane Jordan walked away from 80-100 hour workweeks and embraced the simpler "van life" he's never been happier. Watch him give us an in-depth tour of the Speedhut-equipped classic Vanagon he travels the world in.
Special thanks to Shane (@livethevanlife) for giving us a tour of the build. “When traveling the world in my van, I needed a set of gauges I could rely on. My Speedhuts have never let me down.” - Shane Jordan

I can't understand why there are people reacting negatively to this video, the van is very well made!
That axe. LOL. In case the serial killer doesn't bring his own, you left one outside.
John B. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@Nick EPP jajjaajajaja
Having it on the outide is absolutely useless imo, it doesn't take up any space and he might've just shoved it under the seat or in the trunk.
@@mysticalmisfit1332 hahahahahah a bit over kill.. I bet that doesn't get used too much
the axe is cable locked to van. pay attention
WOW, 5yrs later I find your channel, amazing van and ideology.
this was honestly one of the best van builds I've ever seen. so inspiring.
He should put more stuff on the outside, there isn't enough stuff out there.
true
You do realize that the inside of that small van is only so big for everything He needs dont You SMARTASS?? DON'T BE A TOTAL TOOL!!
He's decorating it like a Christmas tree! Now who's the smart ass?
he should mount a lifesize jesus on the cross never know when. that'll be needed to clear some brush
@tillallareoneluv LOL
Best build I've ever seen on a Westy.
He's ready for anything!
Threw money at it. Every thing Gowesty sell is how it looks, watching this did make me feel less bad about my high top
Perhaps I'm jealous because I can't afford those bits, nor justify spending 700 quid on a rear bumper even before often crazy postage costs and outright lunatic custom fees applied to uk imports from US
Still a bit of a lack of imagination to my mind
Couldn't help but smile at the shop bought designer logs
Did he mention syncro or not?
lizardywizard ‘82 2WD
I don't really like the high tops, prefer just the hard top 1981 model with stock engine and a nice exhaust
OMG you drive passt a hotdog stand twice!!!! I could not do that.... LOL. Great video. Thanks. I wish I had the strenght to do what you do.... You should be so proud and happy
The money that was dropped on this unit...! Really smartly done and stylish to boot.
Japhill75 I ways wonder what people that have these do for a living.
not sure for all, but myself, I work offshore. 2 weeks on 2 off. company pays the flights regardless where in Europe i am. this gives me a chance to travel steady for 10 days a month
Morgajev Jevgenij oil rig I'm guessing if I may?
now way this dude only paid 4500 for it. rolling shells go for more than that.
@@joshuayoung6448 just found one locally for $4000 and one for $3200, both run.
Dude this is the sweetest Westy I have ever seen. Genius using carpet for headliner so you can use velcro, and LED lighting is great, great storage solutions. Love all the extras, and customization. Especially the world map and compass. “Not all who wander are lost”
Safe travels brother! Loved this build and your story.
Nice job, great transitions and I love the drone shots. Your wagon is awesome, some serious mods! Keep em coming! 😎👍
This is a great interview and coverage of the van's exterior and interior. I really enjoyed seeing all the exceptional mods and upgrades you have done to the van. Very well thought out. Awesome job! Hope to see you around SD and check out those mods in person.
Great job Shane, its clear you've put a lot of love into that van. Love the peace flags!
One of the nicest rebuilds I've seen! Enjoy
Your Van is stunning, I love the small customisations you’ve done which make it very unique and fit for purpose. Thanks for sharing.
One of the best camper build i've seen so far!! thanks for sharing!
Great looking van. We just did our first long-term overland trip. Drove to Panama and back over the last 20 months. Maybe we will see you in South America in a couple years.
This has to be one of the nicest and cleanest looking Westfalia Vanagon’s I’ve ever seen. I’m super impressed that Literally almost every single major component to this Vanagon has been replaced and or modified. I love how you swopped out the original Westfalia refrigerator and added a brand new electric fridge all the while keeping it in it’s original compartment. Most people take the old fridges out and use the the space for storage and then mount a new Mobil refrigerator like a Dometic. I much prefer what you did. All of the mods on this Westfalia are so tastefully done. The reupholstered interior looks fantastic and it definitely makes everything look so comfortable. The only thing I wish you spoke on is the pop top that you replaced with an extended hardtop roof. Do you still have the fold out ceiling bed that the pop tops are known for? You definitely put a lot of time and money into this Vanagon and it shows with all of the beautiful modifications. I would absolutely love to own a vehicle like this! Thank you so much for sharing! Cheers!
Amazing video man that was hands down the coolest VW build I’ve ever seen.. im sure you are really proud! Thanks for the share!!!
Loved your video and your conclusion that memorable experiences are more important than buying trinkets! Your Westy van is the business - so organised!
Oh wow, of all the Van life.....this has got to be the "geekiest" of all of them and almost everything was done with purpose and style of such a car lovers and they are done very nicely.
The Westfalias were very well thought through campers anyway, but your van is an exceptional example! What a beauty! Well done! 👍🏼😉
This is the coolest VW Westfalia I have seen so far!! Really cool what you have done. Everything is so perfectly done 👍 I have seen your video 10 times 😊
Yes, this is my favorite van build I've seen so far.
More important than all of your van modifications, good as they are, is what this vehicle allows you to do. I hope all your adventures in it are memorable. My most valuable possession, apart from my van , are all the photos I've taken of the times and places I've been in it. I believe it's called honouring life.
First class build in quality, design, and functionality.
Possibly one of the best conversions ive seen for these vans. Love it.
Awesome and now I want one! Subaru mod was great. You have done everything I would have. Very impressed also inspired!
What a fantastic build!! He seriously thought through it all. My wife and I (@joeandmadee) lived in an '82 Westfalia after we got married, built out a Sprinter van, and now we're back to an '85 Westfalia! :) you just can't beat em! Love his build, very inspiring build.
I'm so in love with the color..wow!
Hands down the best Westfal build I have ever seen. Bravo! I really like this guys philosophy too.
So inspirational! Love your work Shane. Keep up the adventure.
That is one great rig! there is a lot of hours in it :D Great vid!! Thanks for sharing. Now ill have do some wrenching on my own VW :D
That's it you have made my mind up to buy one of these rigs, cracking job the talk through and just a great all round vehicle 📣
You
This is by far the coolest Westfalia I have ever seen!!! Almost too nice to be used 👌
This video, his words, are SO right on. Love it.
Really cool rebuilt van! You feel welcomed at once!
...the last statement, best statement!
Seems like he bought lots of shit for his van... 🤔
@@user-os5sd7sz4v this ^ capitalism allowed him to accumulate wealth and buy/spend money on one very expensive silly trinket. i don't fall for his hippie buddha impression. this van is a monument to ego
20:41 this really gave me a boost of courage and excitement to live my life the way i dreamed about it... thanks for this amazing video ... am in love with the mini van...
Beautiful build. Love the shape and color of yout clasic RV
Amazing amount of detail, together with great ideas - thank you!
love what you said at the end there...lot of wisdom there.
So badass! Just got my westy and transitioning into van life. Best decision of my life!
Awesome Van build !! Thank you
You've truly built the Swiss Army knife of vans and this video is extremely beautiful to watch!
Swiss Army knife but not
Is THE BEST VW ORGANIZED i HAVE EVER SEEN & READY FOR FUN ! G8 job!!
Felt so Nostalgic while watching this Video. i Love the concept of your car like a switzer army knife. awesome, i want one too!!
I will own a van done this well soon. Thank you universe!
Agree what you thought.. go be fun.. I wanna see more video stay safe😘😘
Big up to you mate, living your life as you want to. The part about selling off your House to be able to live your dream really moved me. Not many of us in the modern world we are living in would want to get off their comfort zones and venture of into the unknown.
A hundred years ago or so guys like this would go on adventures to fund themselves, now guys like this fund themselves to go on adventures. As an aging guy it's really cool that these vehicles are...
Right on man!! Excellent philosophy
"I wanted to do it as cheaply as possible"
$200,000 later ...
LOL
😂😂😂
If you crash your "Vintage" van I am sure the insurance company will give you $1k for it. A lot liability.
Great video! You paid great attention to detail to everything that functions for you
Awesome video & perfect perfect Vanagon! Beautiful work, from top to bottom!
Beautiful job sir!
Thank you!
super car, very thoughtful and practical ... Greetings from Germany
i admire german technology from S korea.
Jesus, that interior is so cool, like the brown!
Jesus probably likes the color of his interior too, but God is sad you used his name in vain. I don't think you want to make God sad Lol!
Thanks for your concern, but that does not really affect me.
Have a nice day, though.
Thanks for the tour, lots of good 411. Very very nice VW I love the way you made it yours. Good life 411 as well as the van'n 411. I hit subscribe, I might need some good advice one day, lol.
I've seen hundreds of vanlife tiny homes, but nothing compares and it's a Westfalia! You have quite the mind and eye for detail and design.
Enjoy every moment.
very much a modded van, cool stuff man, super well done video
Volkswagens love to breakdown in your driveway. My Eurovan did that 3 times. Never broke down on the road though.
I like the layout. Will be putting a few of those ideas into my 81.
Really nice thoughtful setup. Detailed for Dayly used. That exactly what I need to do in my van, I seem to get blog with clutter. To get the right container shape in stores to get max used of space and still look good is what I need to work on. Thanks
Awesome equipements very handy and minimalist!
Haha! So minimalistic. More gadget and stuff than in a normal apartment
My Westy was totaled back in 1980 wish I would have replaced then! Looking for a clean one now to build out and spend my last years traveling.
they are out there...I've found way too many VW's on Craigslist, Facebook, and the Samba... my westy found me and then it was lonely and my 71 found a 85 sunroof...like that guy in Cali said, get one and get working on it, who cares what it looks like ?....
Nice Vanagon! You definitely spent a small fortune. I’m trying to not be jealous. You put together a great build!
Impressive how organized and clean your van is in. I’m starting up my build. My goals are to be half what your van is!
12 inch sub? by far the best item!
Why is it not a million views. This deserve a million view man
I loveeeee your van, we have also one old van and im in Love with the freedom life in the van.
Great vibe to the vid Shane. And nice Westy setup!
Very nice thx for sharing
The axe comes in handy while you're sleeping, when somebody wants to chop their way into the van to get to you!?! I had a 1971 Westfalia and that is the same exact thing that impressed me the German engineering - everything opened like a Swiss Army knife.
Funny, people love to point that out, but yet its never happened. Also its locked down as is everything else on the exterior. So while your busy trying to pry it off the side of the van, ive already popped out with my Machete, Pepper Spray, and other defense measures and cut you down.
There goes the anti theft wire.
Amen. I wish I could give this 2 thumbs up. Super nice Vanagon. Thank you for sharing.
Jepone you can,.. like this way👍👍👍..
i have no words for your westy! stunning.... regards from germany!
Fab Westie the best I have seen on you tube.
Isn't it rad? We were super excited to see it in person.
His Van is amazing. I want it :D
Great video Shane! Very well thought out vehicle.
Awesome and thank you so very much for sharing! I want one too 👍😊
Nice setup .I have to install my speedhut gauges soon as the stock gauges are inaccurate with the Subaru 3.3L and reverse drive Subarugears WRX 5 speed
Awesome X 3!
U've got everything u need bro. N it seems like real fun with Ur buddy. Kelp going ✌️
This is the most awesome Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia I have ever seen. I had a blue1981 westfalia aircooled. I bought it in 1997 for 7 grand. It had tons of problems. I since rebuilt the engine and repainted it and sold it for 12grand in 2016
legit this is pretty cool!!
Best van ever
I love this video and your van! I've watch it more than once :)
My friend visions of my 67 vw split window camper. I am 55 I have owned a multitude of vehicles in my life. That's the one I wish I never sold. You my friend are living the dream.
he is living my dream, why i could not reach it jet? i have no base to get it started, no house, no really valuable stuff to sell and i have hardly enough monney to buy food supplys. but one day, i am sure, i will acomplish my dream of van life and see the world outside of the box i am currently trapped in.i failed so manny times, but you need to fail to sucsess
I can relate man, it's tough but I'm gonna make the dream happen. Good luck to you.
Start with learning how to spell and you’ll be well on your way bud.
Lucky DK ) buy clothes from charity shops and sell em online 😉
get a job and save up a few years, even if it sucks ... i have been saving up for the past year and a half and am going to start my adventure next month! finally !!
Today Feelz I’m doing the same good luck to u hun 💗
Great informative video. I am using solar panels for micro cottage ive built and wondering what you used to make the adjustable rack for yours?
Thansk
Great video!! A friend of mine has a Westy thats in need of work, but i did get to ride in it once.
Seriously... I've ever seen like this van... Really really awesome
Nice review and intro if you don't know much about T25 and Westfailures. Be nice to see you using it. We've had our T25/T3 for over a decade now but we couldn't stand being with all those other van owners in one place! Too many people. Everybody's different
Ian Grimshaw you can see my using it via my Instagram @livethevanlife
@@shanegjordan Have you considered starting a CZcams channel ? I'm guessing you obviously have thought about it, but thought I'd ask anyway and maybe learn what your reservations are. I suspect the commentary could be problematic at times. Though it appears the good tends to outweigh the negative..
Awesome!
I have optimized every square inch of this van and here we have a giant subwoofer! Love it, nice Van, I'm a "new " Westy owner
So great and inspiring. I love all the extras.
Fantastic rig! And nice review. But I can't help wondering how you keep all that outside mounted gear from being stolen every time you drive through any urban area?
Desert Rat because he stores this in his garage. No van that sits outsides always and is constantly lived in is that clean, let alone the stuff on the outside would be atleast faded or look a tiny bit used.
Best advice is pay yourself first. Plan an amount you want to put up and pay that first when you get paid. Build a plan for what’s next and live it.
If you left this parked up at night in my city, that surfboard and all those tools would be gone by morning. In comparison, my buddy lives in a van in the California desert where you might get away with it but she won't add a ladder to her vehicle for the same reason.
Great! Can you share some tips on how to fix my surfboard on my Vanagon Poptop on the side? Is the rack custom built?
Unfortunately there was nothing off the shelf, I had a roof rack made with a board holder down in Mexico where custom metal fabrication work is cheaper. Cost me about $500.
What a sweet build! These vans are so cool
Sweet man. We live in a ford van in Australia loving it as well
Man whoever did your build did and INCREDIBLE job. WOW! Any info as to who and where it was done? I would love to live this life in another 5 years. BEAUTIFUL Westy.
MARKLINMAN1 thanks, minus some of the specialty work, paint, fabrication, etc, I did most of it myself.
