Unfortunately, that chunk of the society cannot afford anything at all 🙂. Even regular Gulaals would be too expensive for them, don't you think? On the other hand, in the villages, traditional methods using natural dyes from trees and plants have existed since times immemorial. For example, the flowers of the Palash tree are a wonderful source of red dye, used as Gulaal. Haldi is another natural and cost-effective source. These natural sources are fairly abundant and very cheap, even today. Commercially manufactured stuff is definitely more expensive.
Speak for yourself. Prices of vegetables is less in the village. It's expensive only in metro cities. Infact we don't even need veggies, we make our own natural colours here, we've been making it since decades. Gaao me aake dekho kabhi, kaisi life hoti h.
I remember in my childhood my granny used to make colours using tesu and other aromatic colours. You would look colourful and a fragrance would emanate from your clothes. By the end of the the colour would have evaporated and only the fragrance would remain.
That's only once and it's for your own health this happens just Once in a year and what you eat you can easily apply that on your body either use China made artificial colours which we don't even know what are they made of or use Natural ingredients given to us by Mother Nature aur ye regular nahi ek din ki baat hai wrna insaan har roz kitna waste krta hai wo sochoge to ye kuch bhi nhi
You can do the tilak, but those who want to enjoy the festival, let them enjoy. And no you are not wasting, you can use flowers of gulmohar, rose and use old veggies instead of fresh ones.

This is fantastic. Such beautiful natural colours.. they r actually good for skin.
Wastage of food😊
We have to use on skin only what we put in the mouth as what we put on the skin gets absorbed in the body. Wastage of food means throwing away food.

But are we not wasting food this way?
Just do a tilak using the “roli” (the red powder we use for Puja).

Are you idiot , mtlb pura saala cheeze waste karti rahogi lakin festivals pr sabko ethics yaad aa jaate h
Roli is artificial colour and causes skin allergy
