I love your list and absolutely agree with all of it. Unfortunately I think Boyd and company are still convinced they can outcompete BASS, but as you said if they stay in their lane and offer something different it’d be far more successful than direct competition. One thing they have going for them is grassroots fishing. BFLs and Toyotas are way better than anything BASS has going for a weekend angler. I think they need to eventually drop the invitationals, and make regional angling more of a focus.
All good adjustments! Boyd claims to be watching his bobber so hard that he couldn’t tell you when and where the classic is 😂. For me the redcrest changes would do the most to get me watching their championship.

I think Boyd’s first mistake was being so determined to take BASS down. Gary Klein came up with the MLF concept and Boyd funded the project. Boyd got blinded by his own personal issues. As I’ve said before, cutting the field i think is a wise decision. Trimming the fat off of a line up, especially anglers that we never saw on championship day is a good thing. Just wished the monies saved would have been redirected toward top 10 payouts. I think we will also see some sort of “rookie” friendly rule that allows them a fighting chance to establish history. They should also put some of the tournaments during the fall. Seems like all leagues have gotten away from that. Like Fritts said, fall tournaments would be stellar performances. Over all… MLF has an opportunity to really change things for the betterment of the league and sport.
The anglers big problem is trying to make a living on payouts when that's not possible unless you go on a Fritts blitz or a 90s KVD type of tear. Near all the anglers make livings off trade show, appearance deals, and sponsorship

I've always said it's such a mess that they should not have red crust in the Spring. It should be a couple weeks after I cast and release all the new products there to the public

Hypothetically, as a sponsor, I would be pissed at BPT, causing a direct conflict with the Pro Angler I sponsored. That is preventing him from working the CLASSIC EXPO, intentionally, is BS. I CAN NOT punish the angler, BUT... I would redirect marketing dollars spent with BPT to get a better ROI. Either give it to the angler as a bonus to do Meet & Greets at other top or popular Elite level events at B.A.S.S. Definitely not to BPT. I am not a marketing expert, but I have worked in the marketing world for 40+ years.
I think you are spot on with your suggestions. Personally, I love the idea of different water, and smaller bodies of water. One of the main things that I liked about MLF was the cups, where they fished small fields on small lakes not knowing where they were fishing. I get tired of the same old lakes all the time.

would love to see on northern fisheries a mix bag like on every fish counts a minimum of 10 smallmouth then it makes largemouth play again. Bass should also do minimum 2 largemouth then the livescope would play less.

Get rid of the ban on jet drives & tunnel hulls and the requirement to use the same boat for all events. This will create exciting fishing for non scopers
I like several of these idea but the two things I agree on is smaller bodies of water and Boyd's role. It is hard to be both fisherman and director, and maintain an accountability while being fair to a brand model and friends. The series started by listening to the input of the fishermen and the needs from sponsors, and I thought that was great but at days end, you need to remember to follow a model that is fair and just. A business's function is to make a profit and grow market share, and it seems that MLF is getting away from angler input and listening more to sponsors. He (Boyd) feels that that is what the brand (MLF) needs to do to grow and be profitable but I still think he needs to step out of the fishing side and then he will be better able to represent the fishermen to the sponsor.
Agree hella, specially on stop changing every year. That has hurt them more than thing. Stick to the every fish counts, Stick to 50-60 field. Biggest one day 5 bag gets a bonus for the event, sounds good. Don't listen to lot the people on what they should do. I see people commenting that never liked mlf from day one and never will 😂

The best thing the MLF did was bring back the every fish counts format. I was pissed off when they went to best 5. Every fish separated them from bass. It made them different. Best 5 fish format destroyed the cut line. I love the app they have to watch all the tournaments on. I just think they need to promote the app better. Like alot freaking more. They need to put the team tournament on the app as well so we can watch it. I dont want to see highlights on Saturday on the Outdoors channel. I want to see it all. I love the fact that they trimmed down the field. I feel like there was some cry baby's that needed to go anyway. Now some of them are gone.

It will air this Saturday at 2:00pm Eastern time. I will be watching, I never get tired of watching Wheeler Dominate the field. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Hopefully, after this finally this week, they will start airing this seasons tournament. I'm assuming they have already had the tournament.
Both leagues would benefit from a super tournament at year end top 20 anglers from both leagues fish for 2 days five fish and 2 days every fish counts for mega prize. That if built correctly would be amazing.

There's a whole generation of younger angler's that have never fished powell, mead, Havasu, clear lake. Plus They're always complaining about tournament pressure on these lakes back there. I get it but don't have to like it lol

Honestly many people care not giving MLF credit to getting ahead of what's coming. 2024-25 is going to tank economy wise and pie is getting smalle so in effort to ensure anglers can have access to limited pie it needs to drop from 80 to 50. More sponsors become available to 50 over 80 in truth not less.
could be true, we will find out. But I will say that the "Promise" that was sold to the anglers that went BPT 5 years ago, is that they would get so much exposure, so many new eyeballs, so many sponsors and that didn't happen

I would argue that the pandemic actually increased coverage as well as metrics for pro fishing but it is and always should be the pros responsibility to capitalize on the market conditions.
