Oh land usually composes a lot of songs before making an album. For instance, the song called "First to say goodnight" was composed back in 2009 (Fauna) but did not make it to the final album.
People are often working on albums and songs for many years before we hear them (if they're ever released :) ), a song that didn't get onto an intended album might be included on one ten years later etc :) . In general when an album comes out, it's songs were likely recorded six months to a year before :) .
