- Angelina Jordan Astar performed Gloomy Sunday as her first public audition on "Norway's Got Talent", Friday, March 7h, 2014.
The song was composed by Hungarian pianist and composer Rezső Seress and published in 1933. Original title: Szomorú Vasárnap (Sad Sunday).
Angelina's version is based on the Billie Holiday version from 1941.
The fact that Billie Holiday did not write this song, may be why Angelina says "Gloomy Sunday f r o m Billie Holiday" in stead of "b y".
(Norwegian: "Gloomy Sunday f r a Billie Holiday", in stead of "a v".
The judges are:
Lisa Tønne, born 1977. Stand-up artist and actress, tv host and actress.
Omer Michael Jamal Bhatti, born 1984. Rapper and dancer. Stage name: O-Bee He is also known for
his friendship to Michael Jackson.
Bjarte Hjelmeland, born 1970. Actor, stand-up artist and theatre director.
After the Norway's Got Talent contest was over, he portrayed Angelina in one of his stand-up shows.
Angelina saw it, and thought it was funny.

and the reason for this is an experience she had as a six-year-old,
when she and her family lived in the middle east.
There she met a girl who worked as a street vendor.

If you belive in reincarnation, like i do or the judge at 4:10 does, then it is a different story. To me she just looks like she's trying to remember in that moment answering that question. But she had lived through it in many past lives and that's why she's able to transport those deep emotions through singing.

I watched this after watching her performance in AGT. This song os banned in a certain country, for the author commited suicide after writing the song. There were also listeners who happened to commit suicide after listening to it. Maybe just coincidence or they just knew the history of the song and chose to listen to it after killing themselves. Anyways, a very good performance!

I saw her 2 songs on AGT. She has performed for almost a decade even though she's still quite young. She turns 16 in January 2022. Through it all she seems to have remained very humble.

I'm a Kiwi but lived in Norway as a kid I liked the subtitles to see if I could understand any of it and also liked listening to the Norwegian I don't often get to hear it these days.

She seems to be super confident here. She even talks to judges like she would be their boss almost, she is not nervous at all... That's the most astonishing thing about her for me. Not the amazing singing performance which is 10/10 of course. She acts almost like a very professional adult musician, not a 7 year child. She is somehow very special, I think.

This kid is her own person. She has a more musical, melodious yet soulful style than Billie Holiday. I prefer Angelina's voice over Billie Holiday's. She's not channeling anyone else either. It's just her own pure connection to herself & her feelings for the tone & tribute the song depicts. Angelina's heart has to be huge! Great job mum & dad. She has that rare quality that just captures your heart & takes you really close to hers, it's a unique pure feeling. Most kids are amazing when they 'connect' with something they truly love. I listened to the voice of Billie Holiday. I listened to the voice of this kid. I prefer the kid's voice, the kid's timing, the kid's emphasis at various points in the song. It's a personal preference thing. Yes, the kid has 'soul' and plenty of it. BUT the kid wouldn't be sounding this good if it wasn't for Billie Holiday and Angelina's love of Billie's music & style.

Used to sell audio equipment; also been a sound eng. for many live performances. So, not to offend but, I'm right there with understanding audio technologies. As many times as I've watched this performance, it still astonishes me that any 7 yr old can sing like that. She's like the human version of a mockingbird! I ljke the sound of spoken Norwegian. To my ears it sounds like a mixture of French & German or Russian.

I grew up listening to Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and even Screamin' Jay Hawkins. The first time I watched this video in 2020, I had to open my eyes because I actually expected to see Billie Holiday standing somewhere on that stage. Angelina has said that, if it wasn't for Billie Holiday, there wouldn't be an Angelina Jordan. SHE chose this song for her audition in honor of "Lady Day", and she intentionally omitted the entire 2nd verse which actually dives even DEEPER into the suicide message.

Well that and they always sing condensed versions of the songs they choose to audition with. There wouldn't be enough time for everybody if they sang these songs in their entirety. On AGT she sang Bohemian Rhapsody and she was only up there for a little over 2 minutes. That is a 6 minute song. I'm sorry if I'm coming off wrong. I'm often told that I do that a lot. Some kind of disorder I guess.

I have heard many versions of this song. I honestly did not like her rendition of it. No envy. Not downhearted. Just prefer other people's versions to hers. Now if she had sang something else - maybe a little more appropriate for her age and life experience then sure - I probably would have said "Cool" and gave it a thumbs up. For example: Her version of Bohemian Rhapsody was much better.
