I really wasn't sure about this track when I first got the album, but, with a few listens, it completely won me over. Proof that bands don't always need to do things in the same style.

I just wonder if this song is about the fallen in both WW1 and WW2. It's of course just my own interpretation, but it feels as if he is talking about how all those men were sent to their deaths and how they died in loneliness and far away from their loved ones. And the soldier's gestures at the end makes me think of all the horrible ways they must have died, all the possible ways of dying. I have massive love and respect for this song, and I adore Editors.

If that's the case I'm disappointed. I know it's sometimes acceptable to use improper grammar in art but I hate it. "Didn't" is past tense but "we've" is present tense. The combo is just so wrong. It should be "we'd" which is past tense like "didn't". I know. I'm being a nerd.
I love this song. It gives me goosebumps. It brings me to tears. It reminds me of all my relationships. It confronts me with the loneliness. But still it soothes, it let's me face it and leaves me with a positive feeling.
Aside from end has a start , this is my only experience with editors , fucking hell, this has reminded me how much gold there is still out there to discover. This is a fucking masterpiece.
