Wow, watching your process is very interesting. Had you given me this to draw without your video, I would have drawn a cylinder shape with a cone on top, both about equal height and then break down the subject within those boundary lines... effectively working large to small, whereas you are working small to large. So interesting to hear your thought process behind each step.
That’s a common approach, and a very good one. But if you notice I drew directly in ink without any pencil lines to guide, so I can’t ‘rough-in’ shapes, refine them, and then erase the rough lines. When there is a lot of detail to draw, if the overall shape is not proportioned right, everything won’t fit. So this works for me. For my Instagram drawings mostly I use a 4x4 grid, different process entirely. So use the method in the end which makes most sense for what and how you draw. There’s no ‘right’ way. All the best. 😀
