I just read this book so I came back to watch some reviews on it because I had a hard time wrapping my mind around this novel. It was so beautiful but I always struggle to know what to say about books like this. You did a beautiful job! I agree that it’s definitely it’s a book you need to pay attention to, so it’s one I will have to re-read sometime and annotate it.
Great and thoughtful review! This was one of those books that I didn't necessarily enjoy but appreciated for its beautiful writing and sentiment, and the love between the father and his son and family.
I'm reading it right now I am about 50 pages in. Loved your review. I look forward to watching more videos of yours. Thank you sooo much for not revealing too many plot details. And of course, God bless you and may you prosper in all areas of your life 😊❤🙏
I borrowed the book from my local library because it was mentioned in a few book lists as one of the best recent novels. I was surprised that a Christian oriented book could be so effective to me, a non-Christian reader. I think I will be reading her other books too.
I’m glad you liked it. In all the time since I made this video I haven’t read another of her novels. I did read an essay collection that I didn’t like very much. But I thought Gilead was exceptional if my memory serves.
Hi. Thanks for your review, it made me pay attention to this book and now that I've read it I totally agree with you. This is a great book and it's beautifully written. Actually I listened it as audiobook and that helped me understand the main character even better because the narrator did a great job
Audio books can make a great book and even greater experience. I'm glad you enjoyed _Gilead_ so much. I still think it is easily the best book I have read this year. Thank you for watching.
I think Marilynne Robinson is one of our greatest living novelists. Her characters are so well written that we really care about them. I have read everything she has written, and I am always amazed at her talent. This was a great review, thank you.
@@lilliannieswender266 Housekeeping is not her best, but Marilynne Robinson at her worst is a whole lot better than a whole lot of other folk at their best. It's still great. And reading it in light of Lila makes me appreciate it even more.

I've read this twice, and still, hearing that opening paragraph again brought tears to my eyes.
It is a wonderful book.
Just circled back to watch this one now I’ve finished reading (with Deb from lonestarwords actually!). Great review, Brian!
Thank you. I am sure you are too kind. This was a pretty early review and I was a lot more confident that I understood the book then than I am now.

Thank you. It wasn't an easy read, but, like you, I really appreciated the skill with which Robinson wrote and structured the story.

This is such a great book. I need to read the other three in the trilogy. Thank you for your kind words.

I have this on my shelf to read at some time. I have heard that is a very well written novel from quite a few people.
As you can tell from the video, I really enjoyed it.

Thank you. This was my first real experience with Robinson. Which other of her works would you recommend the most?
I really liked Housekeeping, this was the first book I ever read by her, and I have been a fan ever since.
Thank you for the reccommendation
