      @Elchupanibres Před 7 lety

      u wouldnt have survived that many IF it was from one stack, one Worth of behemoth vs 1 week of VL. and behemoth would win or atleast they should, but seeing this, yes they get Power from the leader wich right there says all that this isnt fair fight, also units that cost more, should be more powerfull, and seeing this, its obvious that is not the case

    • @TheKnownWorld
      @TheKnownWorld  Před 7 lety

      Whether or not I would have survived if all of those Behemoths were in one stack is irrelevant. For this fight, they were not, and I knew full well that they wouldn't be which is why I even bothered to take the battle in the first place.
      As you've said, units that cost more are generally more powerful, but Vampire Lords are a notable exception for reasons unknown.
      Also, I think you may have misinterpreted my statement regarding "Vampire Lords > Behemoths". I said this in reference to this fight alone. But to see you deny this leads me to believe that you seem to think I have applied this to all possible cases, even though that is not what I suggested.

      Which campaign are you referring to? The ones in Shadow of Death?

    • @larsliimets
      @larsliimets Před 7 lety +4

      TheKnownWorld Probably ,,Unholy Alliance (campaign name)," ,,Final peace (scenario name),"and it was the scenario where you had to defeat Gem's former master lord Fayette who was turned into a vampire I think. Can't remember very well though, I haven't played this game for a long time. Anyways, when you have defeated his "minions," you have to go to the underworld. Once there, my army was beaten by him. Now that I start thinking, I could have just skipped several weeks and get a bigger army than Fayette's army (becouse I had more towns and he couldn't attack me for different reasons) and attack after that. Sorry, my English can be bad sometimes, it's not my native language.

    • @TheKnownWorld
      @TheKnownWorld  Před 7 lety +10

      Truth be told, I have never played Unholy Alliance but an army of Vampire Lords sounds scary to deal with. Did you have access to Expert Slow and some shooters against them?
      By popular demand, at some point I'll probably go over the full Heroes III Campaign so I'm sure I'll get a taste of this massive army that you speak of.

    • @larsliimets
      @larsliimets Před 7 lety +5

      TheKnownWorld Yeah well I can't remember correctly though. The armies were not that big actually, but he had a lot of death knights (much over 50 if I'm correct) which was a big amount against my army. And of course the vampire lords aswell (and the other guys.) However I think I'll try it again soon. Thank you!
      EDIT: I can't remember if I had expert slow but I think I had some Grand Elves. However the enemy had haste so they got slaughtered. Again, I may be uncorrect.

      While I do see why that special ability might be terrifying, Mighty Gorgons are often somewhat difficult to come by (i.e. resource costs and Resource Silo prerequisite) in the higher difficulties and are much more useful for taking on high-level creatures more than anything else. Well, we dont see if you have offense or armorer skills. Attack skill is quite high, so vampires are draining so much life back. Anyway, fighting with monsters is usually easy with strong hero. Try it with the stacked behemonts controlled by hero (or without hero, result will be the same) and vampires will fall under single blow. This victory is mainly because of stupid AI.

      Actually, you can see that Gunnar has both Offense and Armorer at 0:00. While it is true that a single stack of 44 Behemoths would probably one-shot the Vampire Lords, the fact of the matter is that they *weren't* in one stack for this battle. "Strong" hero or not, it's a bit ridiculous that a single stack of Tier 4 units can solo all of those Behemoths with minimal spell use.

      Actually, I used this tactic (befittingly referred to by some as "Dragogeddon") for some of my recent Let's Play Heroes III videos. My main issue with this strategy is that if you're up against an opponent who has Orb of Inhibition or creatures who also have immunity to Armageddon, then you're in trouble.
      Of course, this isn't even considering the setup and luck necessary for getting Armageddon in the first place.

      Hello! I'm happy to hear that you've enjoyed my videos.
      If you're interested in a video that has to do with Demon Farming, feel free to check out my Inferno Let's Play episode.
      Regarding starting with multiple towns, there are very few situations I've played where this is actually the case so I lack experience in this regard. My Pestilence Lake and 1v7 Small Map playthroughs would be the closest instances to starting off with multiple towns, so feel free to check those videos out.
      In theory, I would build up at least a Town Hall on both towns and then focus on building up one town. In practice, the exact approach can depend on your playstyle and the map/situation itself. Are you being attacked on all sides? If so, then it might make more sense to focus on defending one town first. Are you not being attacked at all? If so, then perhaps try and build up. How you approach the map can really depend on a number of factors.

      Hello! I’m quite glad that you liked the mad laughter - I think that this was quite the turnoff for a lot of the other people who watched this video. ;D
      Of course, I’d argue that Fortress isn’t as brutally overpowered as Necropolis is. But to be completely fair, Fortress has its own set of tricks that are quite enjoyable as well, but which also aren’t banned or restricted in multiplayer.
      Also, multiplayer is its own story. If you’re enjoying the game where it’s at, then you should have no worries about being “killed to death” if you ever do play multiplayer. :P

    • @saltysaltmaker3848
      @saltysaltmaker3848 Před 7 lety

      Oh, playing solo is still fun, I probably do things too conservatively for multi (though I'll probably start trying some at some point)
      I mean, the last solo game I had went...wrong. Because of unlucky monster placements (and monster growth) there ended up being several piles of level 6/7 creatures that ended up too strong to kill, which effectively walled off my segment of the map.
      The only reason I was able to do anything in the end was that I found a pandora's box with Dimension Door in it, but by then one of the AI teams had swallowed all the rest.

    • @Samael16661
      @Samael16661 Před 7 lety

      Not necessarily strategy games, but a lot of modern RPGs and MMOs tend to balance everything to death, so that classes don't seem to mean much anymore.
      Take your generic wizard/fighter/cleric classes. One deals 15 fire damage, one deals 15 physical damage, one 15 holy damage. They're different types of damage, but the outcome is so marginally different that it nigh on doesn't matter what you play.
      Take a PnP game like DnD for example. Earlier editions made choices like being a wizard pretty meaningful, because 1d4 hitpoints meant that bad breath could potentially kill you, but if you played smart you would get to higher levels and start being able to rain death down on people. Fighters on the other hand started off pretty strong, but kind of fell off at the late game. It's completely unbalanced in that sense, because one class is clearly better in certain stages of progression.
      5e on the other hand is pretty much balanced that most classes aren't too powerful in any stage of the game. It's safer, more reliable, but also kind of boring.
      Now, for a filthy HoMM3 pleb who just likes to play for fun, I'm cool with Necropolis. I'm completely deferential to tournaments and professional players banning Necro because it IS ridiculously overpowered in that setting.

    • @TheKnownWorld
      @TheKnownWorld  Před 7 lety

      I see. I haven't tried many newer games myself, but from my experiences in other games that I've played as of recent (i.e. DotA 2 and League of Legends) I haven't felt that the developers have tried to “equalize” the playing field for all the choices in a single role. In fact, I’m often more ticked off that they fail to properly balance the game as opposed to overbalancing it.
      Either way, I agree to some extent when it comes to Necropolis's status in Heroes III. As overpowered as people perceive Necropolis to be, the faction has been widely unchanged and remains as iconic and enjoyable to play as ever.

    Necro are an odd little faction in HOMM3. They can be insanely powerful. but they can also be insanely weak. They are probably the best late game faction though. Pretty terrible early doors. And they only really have 3 good units. Vamps, Liches and Death Knights.

    • @TheKnownWorld
      @TheKnownWorld  Před 7 lety

      Necropolis can be insanely powerful, yes, but in the right hands I don't think I've seen an instance where Necropolis has been "insanely weak". Also, contrary to what people have stated about Necropolis, they're far from terrible early game. Although they don't have access to a ranged unit until they get Liches, Necropolis can make do with just farming Skeletons, especially with Galthran. I'm not sure about you, but I'd say that having a stack of over 200 Skeletons by the end of Week 1 along with Necropolis's other armies is pretty good for the beginning stages of a match.
      If I were to guess, you deliberately opted not to include Skeletons in your list of Necropolis's "good units" since they don't have any special abilities or exceptional stats. I still think it worth pointing out, however, that they do come in massive numbers (and for free, as well). Because of how big Skeleton stacks get thanks to Necromancy, they often do enormous amounts of damage, which definitely qualifies them as a "good unit" in my eyes.

    • @flobbingdonkey
      @flobbingdonkey Před 7 lety

      Yes, fair comment i guess. Although one of the main reasons i said they can be insanely powerful late game is actually because of skeletons. Necro with mass haste and a legion of skeletons is quite a scary sight. They are not good rushers though. That title probably goes to fortress or Inferno. And if you have a bad map/monster spawns then they can be severely handicapped.

    • @TheKnownWorld
      @TheKnownWorld  Před 7 lety

      Exactly! One of Necropolis's greatest strengths is the hordes of Skeletons they can amass by the end of the game, but that's exactly why I consider Skeletons to be a good unit. When used correctly, Skeletons can be a very hard-hitting powerstack that act as a win condition for Necropolis players.
      Even in the early game though, having Galthran as a starting hero and building a Skeleton Transformer allows you to begin with well over 70 Skeletons, which gives you plenty of options to clear the map with if you play your cards right. Of course, not being able to do much with a "bad map/monster spawns" applies to just about all of the factions, depending on just how bad the start is.
      What makes you say that Fortress and Inferno are "good rushers"? I can understand why this would be the case for Fortress, but Inferno is boggled down with expensive resource costs and mediocre unupgraded starting units. With Efreeti, their early game becomes a bit more manageable, but it's still pretty atrocious relative to the other factions like Castle (Marksmen), Rampart (Centaurs and Elves), Tower (Master Gremlins and Solmyr), and Dungeon (Troglodytes and Shakti).

    • @flobbingdonkey
      @flobbingdonkey Před 7 lety

      I only say fortress and inferno are good early doors because you can quite easily get efreeti and wyverns early (week 1). With upgraded cerberi, inferno are quite decent, even though the rest of their troops suck. Their high resource cost is kind of mitigated by the fact that you dont actually need to buy anything other than cerberei and efreeti (and maybe gogs). No other faction has a 6th level creature thats within such easy reach. Although its slightly more dicey on inferno, i grant you. But compared to the others, they are probably the easiest.

  • @zedooncadhz
    @zedooncadhz Před 7 lety

    Well what do you expect if you have 36 high tiered troops with a hero vs creatures without a hero? I know they're behemoths but they are big and so block each other off. You probably could have just left your vampire lords in the corner and only 2 could have hit you at a time but it makes sense to use your movement.
    My point is it's not common to get so many high tiered troops stacked up like that. Imagine if you have 36 champions that's still an incredible army that's not easy to get. So add in no retaliation and regen and you have a strong ass stack. But as soon as your regen isn't sufficient you would lose. So if the stacks of behemoths had been big enough to knock your stack of VL's down more than they could regen you would have lost.

    • @TheKnownWorld

      I'm afraid I don't quite understand what your main point is. I'm not sure what the relevance of bringing up "36 Champions" is, either. First of all, you referred to the Vampire Lords as "high-tiered troops" even though they are Tier 4 units, which is much closer to mid-tier than high-tier. Consequently, the notion of getting 34 Vampire Lords is quite feasible in some matches, although probably not as early on as I did in this match. I also think it worth pointing out how even a dozen Vampire Lords (roughly Week 2/3) is enough to clear out a good portion of the map in some random map matches even with a side hero, which can't be said for the other units in the same tier.
      The other observation you seemed to make is that if the Behemoths were big enough to kill the Vampire Lords before they could properly regenerate, then I would have lost. But I went in, somewhat confident that they would pull through. And they did.
