  • In the first excerpt, the therapist Prof. Dr. Siebrecht Vanhooren is trying to unblock the situation by focusing on the here and now interaction. By focusing on the living moment, the client’s attitudes towards the existential given ‘autonomy-relatedness’ become more clear. The therapist takes a step further and reflects on how the client relates to herself and her emotions. He does this in a direct and embodied way. By doing this, the client reveals how she relates to the Un-Known. The Un-Known is touched upon in the following therapist interventions in order to bring the client to the living moment. In the next excerpt, the therapist tries to explore what is frightening by turning the attention to the embodied felt senses of the client. This exploration process is the first step of many to unlock her bodily wisdom about her situation. Instead of pushing her emotions and sensations away, she is encountering unpleasant bodily sensations and feelings which she has been avoiding. As the therapy will go on, processing and elaborating these feelings will be key to change and meaning. Last but not least, the client is also reconnecting during this excerpt with her primary source of existence: her body.
