    Our Biology teacher in 2003 used to tell us that the only difference between Indian whiskey and Indian rum is amount of caramelisation to give the colour otherwise they are both Rum. Isiliye I have always prefered Old Monk over whiskey

      Even 8PM whiskey was more frequent than Royal Stag in those college days. The whiskey was quite smooth and cheap , it was very economical in those days.

For me I know this. But next time please tell everything in detail so we are doing all that.     Dada, I think india should make some regulations for whiskey. After that india can creat very nice whiskey. Distelry should open in darjiling and near Kashmiri. We can produce whiskey like Japan after that.

      Yeah. Even between Scotch whiskey types, Islay whiskies are really smoky. Take Laphroig for example.

    You covered good points. However, when it comes to the question of Scotch , things become precise.when you see the word “Malt” , it has to be from Barley. This is the basic difference between Scotch ( Malt whisky) and American Bourbon , where the grain is Rye.
    Another point , all the scotch don’t have the peaty flavour. The smoky flavour comes due to Phenol. There are ppm specifications for that too. Scotland have 5 whisky producing regions. The Islay area has the most famous 3 distilleries and they all produce highly peaty malts - Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Aberlour. They are really class.
    The famous Isle of Skye whisky - Talisker (10 yrs old) and the most recent Talisker Skye are peaty too.
    I heard that most of the Indian whiskies are made from molasses or grains other than barley.
