Aww..Aprilia…Thank You…Thank you… For giving us the SR150
Of all the millions of scooters in our country you are the only one worthy of the name " Sport Scooter".
Every time I look at you I still fell in love , like the first time I saw you..you're sweet but sharp Italian lines with the purposeful beak, looking for the next kill..your fat 14 inch sports tyre mated to one of the most beautiful alloys to be fitted on a production scooter specially the red coloured ones…the twin pot front brake caliper ( specially the gold coloured ones on the RACE).. the vicious snarl, emitting from your engine on full chat.. your colours and graffics..specially the RACE version with the Factory Aprilia MotoGP colour scheme..your purposeful stance..short and stubby…exactly what a sport scooter should look like..not like some wannabe who squat on their heels and claimed to be a sport scooter just because they've got some fancy lap timer on the dash board. ..You are the epitome of so many youngsters and some old mans dream..haha!!
Twisting your throttle, (which has just the right weight by the way) will take us upto 60kh in a very short time ( some scooters are already struggling here)..with a big curve looming I kept twisting your throttle…the feel transmitting from your stubby fork and sport tyres..is out of this world ..for a scooter. I have never felt such satisfaction taking a curve on a scooter, in fact I'm sure you'll give some bikes a run for their money. This feeling was confirmed when I checked my GoPro footage. I was doing 100kh in one of the corners..well what more can I say..you don’t see that often in a scooter..hahhaa..
Then, suddenly a big pot hole was in the middle of the road..in fact it was a moon crater..courtesy of Mizoram Government. With panic button looming I squeezed the brakes as hard as I dare ( maybe not as hard as I've squeezed some ladies..hahaha)..your twin pot front brake caliper slowed down the terminal speed perfectly helped by the sport tyre (which we have to deflate a bit, like 20-22 psi at the back and 19-20psi at the front. With the company spec psi we are in danger of loosing our teeth). Then , inside the crater I decided to speed up again, wanting to see just how much you can take..well , it went quite well ignoring the bone jarring effect transmitted to my arms and we left with all our teeth intact , thanks to your 14inch wheels.
Then, a long straight follows, twisting your throttle to the stop, your rikity off beat sound in start up is replaced by an angry snarl, like a hornet going for the kill..without noticing we've already crossed the 100kh mark. Then, I noticed you still kept on climbing reaching the indicated top speed of 120kh on the antiquated analogue speedo..Wowww..I did not expect this..it was an experience not easily forgotten.
I say again..Thank You Aprilia for giving us a proper Sport Scooter, something different which stand out form all the millions of scooters in our country. Thank You for having the guts to introduce something so different that only a tiny percentage of riders can appreciate , but gives immense satisfaction to this tiny percentage of riders. That being said, are you the best overall scooter in India…Not in a million years…
First lets start from the dash board..when almost everyone have at least an analogue and digital combo speedo console, you don’t even have a trip meter..just a fuel gauge, odo and speedo…come onnn…these we used to get when Bajaj Chetak was ruling the roost..mannn
Then your seat, which is one of the best looking and comfortable enough for a long haul…is not practical at all for two grown ups, let alone trying to take two teenagers to school..its a 1+ seat, Not 1+1..
You're suspensions…which is so harsh I bit my tongue when I accidentally ran over a pot hole.
And you're engine..well starting up in the morning..sounded like and old bullet at the end of its life.
Your floor board can hardly hold a kid school bag, in fact with two school bags I have to sit with an awkward position just to have a small footing for my feet. And your under seat storage is nothing to shout about.
But…all is forgiven when we twist the throttle in anger.

For daily use, you've got some minor quarks ..like not really enthusiastic in slow speed, your vibration or should I say your throbbing heart which is sometimes annoying in city traffic. Your appetite for fuel..mind boggling. And your ridiculous pillion foot peg placement..every time I put my foot down, my lovely wife who is always ever polite always brushed the back of my leg with her pointed shoe, leaving dirty mud and sometimes dog shit on my immaculate black jean. But , then I remembered that you're a " Sport Scooter" and all is forgiven.
If SR150 is made by some Japanese brand, I might not be so ready to forgive these quarks . But, it is made by an Italian firm Aprilia. You might ask what's in a name? Let's try to answer it like this. You are looking at a NIKE shoe which is really fancy but not that practical with its jazzy colours and flimsy looking material costing 10K . You'll gladly shell out the 10K, or borrow it if you don’t readily have the cash. Then, if BATA was printed on the shoe instead of NIKE , will you shell out the the same 10k for it, don’t think so..maybe not even 5k will do ( Not saying BATA shoe are bad, in fact they are great..just trying to make a point here). So, yes..there is something in a name..same thing applies to KTM. Some of them have minor issues, don’t think customers will tolerate them if It's from Japan, but KTM is an exotic brand from Austria and they don’t mind these minor quarks . In fact they labeled them as " Character" of the machine. They say a machine without soul is so bland..got bored within a few months. So, the minor quarks becomes " Character" and in some cases.."Soul'..Well, I'm glad I am one of these stupid guys and totally fell in love with the SR150 as well as KTM's.
I say again..Thank You Aprilia for giving us a proper Sport Scooter, something different which stand out form all the millions of scooters in our country. Thank You for having the guts to introduce something so different that only a tiny percentage of riders can appreciate , but gives immense satisfaction to this tiny percentage of riders. You have won our hearts and support for your future projects. Please bring out more radical products, you will always find a die-hard fan like me supporting you..

I also have many complaints about my aprilia but whenever I ride it replaces all my complaints with its wondorfull performance and then I make myself understand that afterall it's a sports scooter not one used for carrying groceries ...hahaha..,😙😁😘

Pressing your luck too much. It's never wise to overtake on blind turns. Many times you took the corner too aggressively ending up in the wrong lane.
