- After "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" hit big across the world, everyone knew who Boy George was. There was such a rush of singles that spring you could hear three different songs by the group on the radio within an hour!
One of those singles , "Time (Clock Of The Heart)" was recorded after the release of their debut album and while it was added to future pressings for a total of 10 songs from second run. However they omitted the song on the sleeve and label but had added the song as the first track on Side 2. So if you ran out and bought new when the soulful reggae of "Do You Really Want..." first hit, this song is not included.
It was the second single issued, peaking at #2 unable to overcome that movie theme from "Flashdance" for two weeks. The record label was getting ready to release a second single, but Culture Club had recorded the new song and felt it would be a stronger song than anything else on "Kissing To Be Clever". The executives heartily agreed and issued the single.
The third single issued was "I'll Tumble For Ya" proved the band could successfully chose their own singles. It peaked at #9 in the US. Later on that same year, they released their "Colour By Numbers" LP and it gave them their first US #1 hit, "Karma Chameleon".
The group faded a bit after that and with the diminishing interest in the band "The War Song" only got to #17. Their last pop hit was "Move Away" in 1986 with the band dissolved. Boy George had a major hit with the Pet Shop Boys produced "The Crying Game" and turned it into a surprisingly hypnotizing #15 pop hit.
1998 got the band back together for a VH1 Storytellers episode and have continued to record and tour, their latest news had the band playing Wembley in December of 2020 and broadcast around the world live streaming in response to the covid pandemic. After the recent ABBA album, it might be fun to hear some new material, I am in the mood for reminiscing you know, new music from old friends? - Hudba
I do not care what anybody says Boy George is one of the best pop singers ever. Nobody sounds like Boy George when he sings......
I'm sitting here 40 years later saying the same thing❤❤❤he evokes feelings in me that no other artist can❤
I Concur ❤
Every time I've seen CC live, I have shed tears of strong emotion. Great song writing.. great talent, a very real soul George O Dowd..
Facts! To me his voice trumps even Sam Smiths, George has a sincerity and pure passion to his voice, you could feel the pain and torture in it.
This is one of the best songs ever recorded… ! The 80’s were completely sublime!!!
It was all digital in 80’s!
💯
They certainly were!!!!
Agreed - the best songs. People actually sang- no autotune.
Agreed
42 years later and still sounds as good as ever 😊
Yes!!!
He was only 20 when he wrote this. Incredible talent.
20!! Wow!!
@colleensmith723, I know right 😮
There's one problem though, and that's all of the talented people connected to Hollywood are being exploited and dragged through the satanic cult in case you don't know what's really going on and how they got to where they are
The more you want to accomplish, the more you have to give to the cult, ESPECIALLY if you want to be PRESIDENT
So according to the insider who leaked the info, there really is corruption within our government. This corruption won't always go on because God's going to one day clean house and turn the government over into the hands of those he wants to run it
42 years ago!!!
WOW !!! That's serious.
Still listening in 2024 and sound just as great as when I first heard it. Great memories.. We will never hear music as beautiful as this and others anymore. 💯🤷🏾♂️
80s was everything, the music, the fashion, disco and clubbing. No smart phones, just living in real time.
Your so right!
Yeah, I hear ya!
I agree with you all the way. Technology has put a distance between us . Mankind. It's getting worst as time goes by . It's 2024. I wonder in 2030. It would more distant. Worst. But it is what it is. Life goes on. Life is about changes
The world was at peak performance for sure. Something about that decade made me think of hope.
😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Simply as Lemmon aid ice tea and ice cream, apple pie baseball Chevrolet and the boy and girl... next-door...
It hurts that I will never see this era again , people that meant the most to me is in the past 😢😢
So true Beverly, difficult days were eased by real songs from real people, with real instruments! Every day is a NEW day, the water has passed under that bridge. Keep it real, and enjoy the moment (not easy at times). Wish you good, in all you do. Peace and one love.
I agree
We’re here for you buddy
I feel the same way .
I know that feeling, and we care about you, you're not alone. Take care,❤😊❤.
The best Culture Club song ever. So worthy of this sophisticated Extended Mix. Brilliant. ❤️
Agreed❤
It really is!
My favorite song of culture club❤
by far the their best song!
One can really appreciate the instrumental work involved in the first minute.
INDEED!!!!!!! It's DOPE!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song is so underrated and underappreciated
I love this particular mix!
If Boy George was around now with the acceptance that we have today , the group would be HUGE ! ! !
That’s for sure!
Regarding this so-called "acceptance" thing, wait until Judgment Day because those who support abominations won't have a leg to stand on

My favorite Culture Club song. It's so classy and lush. The early 80s had some gorgeous sophisticated pop music and I was glad to be there for all of it!
Exactly! The strings are gorgeous!
I had the privilege to start my own DJ business way back in 1983 to 1991 and enjoyed every minute...
This 80's era of music was the greatest ever... So many great artists😊....
I did this in Sydney & Melbourne Australia...
Was booked months ahead after the first year of DJ ING alone...loved it...
Sold my business in 1992, but kept all my vinyl precious records....
I'm so happy I did....😊😊
Love this song, lots of memories back in this era ❤
Legend never die ,until you forget them .😎
Their best song without a doubt. Simply lush and wonderful.
Yet a song no one mentions! A pity!!
yes
@@JCesar-xf2bk every Black person does this was our song
@@KennyFame Really!? Why this song in particular? That's interesting!
Listening to this for the millionth time...I just love the background strings, the sax, and the bells.
George O”Dowd was a fantastic soulful singer back in the day. Everybody got preoccupied with the whole Boy George look but his music and band created some of the best pop music of the early 80s. A bIg shout out to Helen Terry who sang back up on many of their classics too
I Never Heard This One. I'm Going To Have To Check Out Their Stuff!
I think Boy George is still soulful to this day, alot of voices out there, but there is only Boy George and one CC!!
All of the voices and musical instruments make this song outstanding.
I don't know why your comment reminded me of his song, "Don't Take My Mind on a Trip". I had the "cassingle" and played the heck out of it! I've gotta go look that up. 😁
Totally agree. There's no denying BG talent as singer, writer and composer. A nemorable song of that glorious era.
Definitely true classic jam hands down good music 🎶
Just pure class. The 80''s were eclectic and so inspiring to so many like me who became wrapped up in its beauty and uniqueness.
Straight musicianship !! Great ballad.
Those strings are MAGICAL and so is this remix. Good job! 👍🏾
I agree! Great job!
I agree too absolutely magical
The Sherri Shephard show bought me here today . Boy George was a guest . I can’t believe it is 42 years later . I was a freshman in high school when this was released . Song still holds up after 4 decades
Boy George and Culture Club were one of the highlight performers of the 80's. They were something really special. They are still loved.
I remember when Do You Really Want To Hurt Me came out, I was waiting on line with my Dad to check out at some store in a local mall and this song was on MTV on a TV above the cashier. He turned and looked down at me, pointed to the screen and told me, "Look, it's Boy George. He sounds like Smokey Robinson." I smiled and nodded.
Great quote 😊 it must have been epic seeing all those bands pop up practicaly at the same time. Culture Club, Duran, Kajagoogoo, ABC..
I don't think I'd compare Boy George to Smokey Robinson but this song called Time is a classic.
What a talent 💕🔥
Whoever wrote/created the different parts for all these instruments to play together is really amazing. The string line was stunning!..it supports the Vocal yet it was commanding without over powering the Vocal. The bass line was very groovy...not busy all the time but with enough gap in between the notes to give the beautiful 'flavour' required. The Melody of the vocal is quite simple, but the arrangement propelled it high.
Beautiful song! One of the greatest ever written. Thank you Boy George
Beautiful Culture Club Classic !!!
I wake up every morning 🌞🌄 to this timeless classic good enough to soothe me ,wakes me up, and keep me going with a smile in my face🥰
❤

It tells a story like gold baby a great groove to thy heart yo
Love The Culture Club❤😊
I mean..., what can i say - what a "TIME".
The 80s should’ve NEVER LEFT; the farther it gets the more my heart breaks ❤️😢❤️😢❤️😢❤️😢❤️ emotionally ❤️😢❤️😢❤️😢❤️😢
It’s still the 80’s for me and that decade never left for me I’m still figuring out stuff I didn’t know that happened in the 80’s.
This still hits hard!!! Love it 💕
Crazy that a song about time can be reminiscence 42 years later.
I love this song it brings back beautiful memories ❤💕💖
What a power house of a band they were back in the 1980s.

The 80' s were such a unique time. Great tune.

Magnificent! Brings back fond memories of high school in the early 80s.
God I can remember this like it was yesterday. Great times theses was. Boy George and the culture club. Music was spectacular than and still is just as beautiful now and then. ♾️✌️💯
Real good hands down
OH😮 THE BRITZ WITH THE HITZZZ
"Time (Clock Of The Heart)" is my favorite Culture Club song. Even 39 years later, the lyrics stir strong emotions, especially the way Boy George sings them.
The Bonnie Raitt song "Nick Of Time" is another example of great lyrics.
And, also during the 80s, Rush's "Time Stand Still" has great lyrics & the wonderful Amiee Mann doing backup vox! 👍👍
🎤 Mine too 💚
I totally agree with everything you said ! Especially Bonnie Raitt's songs "Nick of Time" & "I Can't Make You Love Me" ! 100% Classics !
Touches My Heart And The Great Life I Have Had in Music, Makes Life Worth Living
I love his music can listen to him all day.
One of their best!
I miss the 80s so much, good times!
This is one of the most beautiful remixes of one of my favorite songs. Wow I was 21 years old. Now I’m 60 years young. Wow….. Time
21/60, me too.
Where did it go?
@@fotografere2968 I often wonder too. Seems like yesterday hmmm 🤔
@@fotografere2968 😊aww 😊
This was so beautiful. I never heard a song so beautifully rework.
Class of 1982 in the house!
The digital keyboard 🎹 synthesizer invented during the 80’s is what you hear. 🤔
And the bass line that is simply perfect😃
In hs, I was a huge fan but had to keep a low profile. Classic rock was still popular and new wave was getting into the mainstream and quickly gaining ground.
I just love Boy George. His gender blending was way ahead of its time. And his songs were very gender neutral. Both boys and girls could relate to his music. And that's what makes him such an icon of the 80's. It makes me sad that this generation doesn't have music like this. Listening to the music reminds me that what we experienced back then was something we all thought would last forever. Now it resides here with DJDiscoCat who graciously gives us extended versions of the hit songs we all love.
I like the band and the song too, but I just want to point out that boys and girls can relate to any and all music. That's not really a Boy George trademark and it's not what makes him an icon.
@@cultofdis He's an icon to me. I lived in the LGBTQ community in the 80's and he is an icon to us and we did relate to his music whether we were gay or lesbian.
@@cultofdis well everyone has different opinions
it was the most greatest and beautiful song from culture club Every time i hear it turns me so back to sweet yesterday that i do not want to go back to today this is magic that never gone
