- Nonna and Pa give me a garden tour of their famous Melbourne urban garden in Autumn as they prepare their Winter vegetable garden.
It's the final month of Autumn and the days are quickly getting cooler as we approach Winter in Australia.
Mary and Rod give me their best tips for growing vegetables in urban Melbourne including what to plant now in May, tips for beginners on soil preparation, fertilisation and which vegetables grow well in this climate.
To find all my urban vegetable garden tours and other vege gardening videos click on the playlists tab and find the "Vegetable Gardening VLOG" playlist.

Aw love Nonna and Pa and their garden! More tours of theirs please 🙏🏼
Glad you enjoyed it! I was thinking of doing an August tour there shortly!
What a productive garden. Can,t get enough of their garden. Keep them coming please.
Glad you’re enjoying them Anne!
Hi Christie, so lovely to meet you Mother in law.
Just want to say how lovely and inspiring she is and really wish her well with her health journey.🙏🏾🐸💕
PS re her advice about not planting too close together is good and true!
I agree, she’s a winner! Thanks Ruth 🩷
Love this ❤ so glad Nonna agreed to an interview. I could listen to a lot more. Beautiful garden and so much experience to share.
Me too! Thanks Kimberley ☺️
What beautiful people your in laws are. Their garden is amazing and now I’m inspired to grow more herbs.
They are, aren’t they ☺️ fresh herbs are the best - they make all cooking taste amazing!
Thanks so much, Nonna and Pa, I cannot wait to see more!
Aren’t they the best? 💖
Totally Christie, I want to hang in the kitchen with Nonna. I could pull the low weeds to pay ;)@@ChristieCooper
I was really looking forward to this episode and you did not disappoint. This was really interesting. Please ask them to contribute again too. Also, they both look so healthy and are a great advertisement for growing and eating our own produce, I was so sad to hear of her breast cancer journey. I can only imagine how beneficial the natural vitamins and minerals in their home grown produce has had in the healing process. I am so envious of those gorgeous raised beds.
Glad you enjoyed it Anne, I’ve passed on your comment to them! We were all very relieved when Mary got the all-clear from the oncologist after finishing treatment. This Videl took me a lot longer to edit than usual but seems to have been worth it 😊
Heaps of great info in this video
That was amazing! Maybe Nonna should do a recipe book 🙏👏
One of her 2 other sons Jono has been actively encouraging her to do just that!
Just discovered your channel, love this video!
Welcome! I really enjoyed filming this one ☺️
We really loved watching Nonna and Pa’s garden. It was nice to learn from their good Melbourne vegetable garden tips. They seem to have a wealth of knowledge that we all love to glean from.
Keep up the good work Christie!
Glad you enjoyed it Stephen! They sure do 😊
I really enjoyed this this , thanks for sharing 🥬🥦🫛
I had fun making it! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
love this
It’s one of my favourites ☺️
Great ep! So much to learn from generations before us. Couldn’t agree more re raised beds - life safer.
What a surprise episode! Please keep giving us updates of your in-laws garden. I'd also like to get more info on Nonna's preserving. I tend to grow quite a lot of produce here in Perth, but I fail when it comes to preserving the excess and it tends to land in the compost bin! Gary
You should get her cucumber / zucchini pickles - they’re heaven! Will definitely look to do something like this in the future if she wants to 😊
Yes, yes, yes. That would be so interesting too.
When my mum cooks beetroot she places slices of onion between the sliced. Nothing like home grown beetroot..
Yum!
OK I would really like nonnas broad bean mixture that she stuffs the zucchini flowers with please
I’ll have to ask her and get back you ☺️
Hi I saw you planting an avocado seed one thing you have to put the seed w/ roots down not on the side and the bit looks like stick up hope that makes sense.
Also you can put the seed in pot make sure you put the point bit up and the more round bottom then wait have fan watching grow .hope that helps
Thanks Maria! 😊 The roots were all around it which made it hard to work out which was the obvious “down” but this helps!
Absolutely loved this episode!
Love hearing this!
I really love this! Wanted to follow a garden chanel in Melbourne. So happy I found you. Where does your nonna get her seedlings from?
Hi Melissa, most of these came from QP Seedlings, they’re based in Werribee but send out their seedlings through the mail. Otherwise they use a combination of the local nursery, Bunnings, and growing their own from seed. Glad you enjoyed it! I’ll be sharing my own garden tour in the next day or two 😊
Awesome garden!! 😊❤
Where's (phonetically)- Kallumbria?
Calabria, in Southern Italy. Thank you!!
Italians do it better…..hehe
Great video
Look forward in seeing how the broad beans turn out
They sure do ☺️
Love this ❤ so glad Nonna agreed to an interview. I could listen to a lot more. Beautiful garden and so much experience to share.
