Mind = Blown! I have a couple of strains of Oyster mushroom growing int the basement. Each with slightly unique triggers. King Oysters can be triggered to pin by dragging a fork across the top. This thumping thing is new to me. Thanks for the scientific approach. Very convincing.
I wonder what other species respond like this. Also i wonder why this works and what it means for shiitake as a sensitive organism that can respond or react to touch
This was interesting, thanks! I have several bags of shiitake in unicorn bags, with pasteurized woodchips as substrate, which have given me only a mushroom for now, so I wil give the thump a go :) If you do not mind me asking you for a bit of expert advice: Do you advise to have them fruit in the bags, like in the video? The shop I bought my spawn from advised to enclose the block in net bags, but I fear that doing so might cause the block to dry too fast. Also, do you have any advice or video about using what is left of block to spwan further bags, after fruiting? Sorry for the very basic questions, it is my first time growing mushrooms.
aaah I wished I knew this before I put spawns in the log, no wonder they are growing so slow, it had been mushrooming once which is few of them. Is it too late to thump it now? :-). it 's almost autumn season in down under, and the mushroom should be sprouting again I hope. how many time do I spray with water in the week?
+100thMonkeyMushrooms: I might be wrong, but I thought I read that it mimics a log breaking from a tree to the ground and signals for the mushroom to increase its growth to help the limb to rot.
Maybe, the mushroom thinks it's life span is in danger so it knows to fruit and spread spores in order to survive further legacy. For example, micillium grows in a tree, the tree falls..thump!!! Do it now knows it's close to closing time.
Theoretically it's encoded in the DNA of the mycelium. It senses that the tree the Shii tree has fallen and in a race against wood eating Beatle the fungi races to produce spores and continue its life cycle. Many growers doubt it is the shock and only the placement to favorable airflow, moisture and temp. Run trials on your own and do every other one. Then note different results. Good luck.
Did you go get the test for food allergies? I had a friend that thought they were allergic to a food and found out it was the ingredients used to prepare it the one time that they had it the had a meal with same oil and found out it was a reaction to the olive oil from multiple counties. By the way the oil tested as machine oil by a high %. Hope your doing well.
You have a great channel on mushrooms. One of the best I've seen.
You truly can learn something new everyday. That's amazing!
Cool experiment/demonstration. Thank you.
Thanks man!!!
You are a cool guy!
Slapping electronics to get them working, to slapping shiitake to get them growing… slaps are a lot more mysterious than I had realized.
It actually works.
Thanks for sharing .
What webside you ll recommende to get the right datas for cultures? Like temp, moisture and substrate composition?
This certainly is a most unexpected piece of knowledge.
Hello! What kind of material you use as substrate and what is the ratio. Thank you
Thanks for the tip. Do you have video shows how to cold sock for many blocks in one batch?
So if I'm using a modified PFTEK method, will the shock of getting the cake out of the jar be enough?
super cool thanks

Thank you! Give it a try with your next batch of shiitake.
Yes..they are an interesting species.
amazing secret ......thank you to share
What media are used for the growth of Shiitake mushrooms
Do you know Shitake mushrooms literally increase in size after you give them electric shocks?
Where did you buy your kits?
Hello, is it completely necessary to soak them in water or is it enough with the thump? thanks a lot
is this work on oyster
Do you make your own bags?
Thaks bro
I wonder what other species respond like this. Also i wonder why this works and what it means for shiitake as a sensitive organism that can respond or react to touch
So great and learn from your technique
I would love to order mushroom kids from your company where can I looking to ?
very much appreciated...
can u help me like how to make spawn of shiitake mushroom
This was interesting, thanks!

How did it go?

+Srikandi Warion Watch the video "Care and Fruiting Your Logs" on our CZcams channel.
100thMonkeyMushrooms I will thank you :-)
My thump .. my thump
Will this work for cubensis?
Ashley Mills has great videos for that
I didn't know that Rutger Hauer is a mushroom grower
woooooooow!!!!
you rock
Thank you!
Do they have any holes in the bag for air flow?
dont need air flow until pinning starts
I'll try that when it's time. And you mentioned thump them before soaking? Also what could be the explanation behind that thumping?
+Mariusz Klekotko No one is sure...but, obviously it works.

Jane, I read the same thing.
slappa da bag.

Nice theory!
Probably an indicator that a fresh branch has fallen and it hurries up to inoculate it.
Probably, just how stressed plants will sometimes flower early, like pumpkins. Probably an old adaptation to stress.
thump thump thumpitty!
+carcultured Got that right!!
Does anyone know the reason behind this?

Cool. Not sure if you heard of this, but apparently the electric shock also works: phys.org/news/2010-04-lightning-mushrooms.html
浸水打木。。。
Shiitake mushroom caused a bad allergic reaction to me 😐

I think you're just encouraging gas exchange. Those bags are heavily full of mycelium & they want more O2
Hahah 😂🤣how did you dumped on this idea? Did you accidentally dropped the one bag and only bag started to grow?
Dropped not dumped 。
