Albanian isn’t just a language - it’s a weapon, a shield, and a roar that echoes through time. It’s the unapologetic voice of a people who refused to be erased, the pulse of a nation that fought back when others tried to break us. This language is rebellion, pride, and power wrapped into every word, every letter, every breath. To speak Albanian is to defy centuries of oppression, to honor our warriors, poets, and visionaries who kept our flame alive. Albanian is a punch to anyone who doubted us and a promise that we will never bow down. It’s not just something we speak; it’s something we live with swagger and pride! This language is our power, our identity, and our defiance against anyone who dares to underestimate us. Albanian is not just spoken-it’s lived, felt, and fought for. It's the essence of who we are. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to speak it boldly, preserve it fiercely, and let the world know that the Albanian language is here to stay, whether you like it or not! 🇦🇱

Although a majority of Albanians are statistically identified as Muslims, it's important to note that most Albanians don't actively practice religion. The label of being a Muslim majority largely reflects historical data from over a century ago, before communism. For Albanians, national identity and cultural traditions are far more significant than religious affiliation. This is why you see such strong religious coexistence in the country, with Muslims, Christians, and followers of other faiths living together harmoniously.

Back in school I remember we were required to learn multiple languages a lot of Albanians speak few languages it's very common. We have beautiful beaches. We just don't want bad tourists to come and do bad things in our country.

First of all Albania is not a Muslim country is a secular country with all religions and only 46% of population identify as Muslim but are very liberal when the majority don’t go to mosque and drink alcohol you can check the census which was carried out last year you will see lots of churches around the country so next time a bit more research before speaking won’t hurt

The Jews of the world remember Albanians fondly because Albanians get this right. I am not bothered if people get the religion thing wrong as long as they love Albania fir what they experienced rather than what they read. I have always felt safe and wecomed. I knew the story of your cardinal and how others were persecuted for faith. Lac is special to me. Do I am aware of it's religious mix. My shock was tgst he did not have cash. Just in case there is some confusion here, Albania is NOT "a majority Muslim country". People who practice religion are likely less than 10% of the population (and almost half of those are Catholic/Orthodox). On top of that and as you correctly explained, Albania was an atheist country for almost half a century. This kind of rhetoric has historically undermined the image of our country and we are to this day still suffering political consequences because of it with the rest of Europe.

Just returned from a month-long trip to Albania. Amazing place wich is only recently opening to tourism. The best bet for you would be to have a local Albanian guide or accompany you. Many places that we could not visit in a month. Will return as soon as we can. There are many things to fix in Albania, but generally the country is very safe; petty crime so rampant in Rome and other European cities, generally affect tourists in Albania. Otherwise, the wellbeing and the life of foreigners in Albania is a given, as Albanians have a code of honor up to giving their life to save the guest's life.
Any tourist would do great in Albania; just don't be a jerk, and you'd be treated like a royal.

    • @HK-pp9ig
      @HK-pp9ig Před 13 dny +1

@@mattimatti35 It is a Muslim majority, but it is Europe; you could find more Muslim religious zealots in any city in Western Europe than in Albania. Religion plays almost no role in the societal regulation of Albania. You find men named Christian Islami, etc. Muslims regularly drink alcohol (Raki) just like Christians do Greece or Serbia (if not drinking more than the others!), and many would eat pork, without thinking twice. "Halal" for Albanians is when they pay for the meat regardles if it is pork or lamb. If they steal the meat/steak, that is not "halal". They don't pay the religious guy to "make" the meat halal, they go to the butcher.
But, yes, as a Muslim majority there are many mosques all over (sometimes next to or nearby a chrurch), most probably sponsored by Turkey (the former ruler) and other Islamic countries that try to hold onto Albania's past as long as they can.
There are a handfull of Albanians adherent in Islam, who wear the habits as you might see them in Rome, London, and New York. Some of them are paid or sponsored by Muslim charity groups from Yemen, Kuwait, etc., and some are just obedient ("muslim") to the religion of their parents or grandparents who inherited it from the 500 years long Ottoman rule.

Albania is a mixed religion country with a majority muslim population; suni and a shia sect (bectashi), and Christian, both Catholic and Greek Orthodox. Also a small Evangelical group as well as a very small Jewish presence. Albanians never had any troubles among religious gropus; many people in Albania do not adhere to any religion whatsoever; official religion was banned under the communist regime; churches and mosques were closed; either destroyed or used for prophane purposes by the communist regime. Many Muslim Albanians carry Christian names; there is actually a news anchor or journalist named "Christian Islami"... laughable to have in the name both christianity and islam (muslim)... but no surprize there, because there was this Italian soccer player named Christiano Pagano (Christian and Pagan at the same time???)

It is not that I see the absence of an organized religion in Albania as a good thing. We all know, the majority of wars and troubles around the world, now and in the past circle around religion. Remember Crusades and other "holy" wars. Not having an established strong religion, means that you do not belong on either side; and indeed, that is the trouble with Albanian society now and in the past.

Our language is unique and some of our linguists will tell you is the oldest in the world which I don't agree. But to ring a bell in you the word in Bible "Genesis" is actually an Albanian word "Gjeneza" which means beginning. Islam is the predominant religion in my country but 45 years of communism have turned a large amount Albanians secular or nonbelievers. There's a sizeable Albanian community in the US, mostly in the Northeast and the Great Lakes region
They are often concentrated in the Greater Philadelphia, Greater Boston, Metro Detroit, Chicagoland, Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida; New York City, and Waterbury, Connecticut areas
About three-quarters of the Albanian American population lives in the aforementioned Eastern U.S. states (52,000 in New York State, 30,000 in Michigan, 21,000 in Massachusetts, 16,000 in Florida, 15,000 in Illinois, 15,000 in New Jersey, and 12,000 in Connecticut)
There are also smaller, yet sizable communities within the Midwest such as Greater Cleveland, and Kenosha and Milwaukee, and as well as smaller East Coast communities like that of in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area that encompasses Northern Virginia and Maryland. West of the Mississippi River, there are smaller ethnic Albanian communities in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Phoenix, and San Diego areas
In 2024, there were 224,000 counted people of Albanian descent living in the United States

We named the airport after her, and not only, but also schools, kindergarten, squares and many more for a simple reason: She’s Albanian. Don’t you understand? Albanian 🇦🇱
The airport is named in honor of the Albanian Roman Catholic nun and missionary, Mother Teresa (1910-1997).
Nikollë is a common male name in the north of Albania 🇦🇱 but not only there. She visited Albania in 1989 and we have a whole Pavillon in our national museum dedicated to her.
Mother Teresa said, "By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world.

Last census 2024 tells that Muslim have 45% in Albania , catholic Roman Latin church are 30% (mostly nord Albania and nord west ) and orthodox 13%-14% orthodox Byzantine Albanian with central Albanian Orthodox Church so it’s a balance of religion and both Muslim (Sunni and bektashi are 45.5% so less than 50%) !
Albania is a king nation more than religion !
More than 10 nation in Europe their ancient kings and prince have an Albanian origin mostly from Dyrres metropolitan diocese (metropolitan durrres include even Lisus Matia Tirana Dajt etc etc ) so Albania got only 1000 autos in all land in 1991 and Albania has in 2024 700,000 Mercedes from old model and 10-20% new Mercedes from 2017 model making one of more vital nation with youth people both Albania and the reality Kosova has the most youth people in Europe with young great generation ! But regarding Albania got 400km of coast line in a small nation with 28,800 km2 and three big amazing lakes , Ohrid Prespa and Shkodra as well artificial lake Koman Vau Deja Bovilla Tapiza etc etc etc. Albania use green energy 99.9% and is CO2 free in energy one second in Europe after Nordic Albania as well have developed so much after fall of communism in 1991!
    Who are Albanian?
If you ask the Albanian from north to south are the yllrian tribes that makes this nation continuously safe after every millennium and century attack !
