    I love how most masks that you can buy don't even look close to what the character was. My favorite ones to look up are the Freddy Krueger masks or Leatherface. Some of them look like completely different people.

    Try starting out Drilling backwards slowly. This will help start a clean hole. Then slowly drill foward until you can feel the drill bit almost come through the backside. You should see a small dimple on the backside. Put your drill bit in the dimple and drill slowly in reverse yhe rest of the way through. Wood tears out also when drilling so you can either use the drilling from both sides technique, or clamp a piece of scrap wood to the backside of your project. Oh and make sure you have a SHARP drill bit. You can hold a drill bit in your hand using the REVERSE/FORWARD technique just ga slow and don't press down too hard. Just a little more than the weight of the drill bit is all the pressure you need. You will feel the bit wanting to catch and snag so imagine it catching and snagging with a power drill. TAKE YOUR TIME 👍

    I would highly recommend using a step drill bit for drilling out the vent holes. With a step bit, you get clean holes and you don't have to worry about those annoying burs and excess plastic.

    I've started making this mask for my little brothers costume on my own before finding this tutorial and something that works really well in place of a drill is a small cone shaped dremel bit with a cheap dremel my grandmother had.. just for future reference or something.. that worked really well...

    For a $1 mask it looks amazing after the work you put in. I still hate the fact they make the mask so flat and full faced. But when you are wearing it at 10:07 it looks to fit your face perfectly. I think it looks awesome. I have been watching all your Jason mask overhauls as well as the other ones (Michael Myers)...great job. Love all the Halloween content.

    One piece of advice, it's better to put a coat of grey primer on the mask before the first layer of paint. It helps the paint not scrape off over time and also the mask has a slightly transparent look without it.

    Nice work! My only real suggestion is that you should use the $3 bla-no I'm kidding. I think it's really cool you're going to take customizing this mask as far as you can. What my suggestion is actually about is the top forehead holes. Now it's easy to just fill in the hole below the two forehead ones but the problem is that it looks very wrong and that's because where the third hole is is actually at where the two forehead holes on the actual Jason mask sit so really the best thing you can do is space it out enough, drill out two extra holes at the level where the bonus forehead hole is and then fill the three holes that were already present on the mask and what you ensure is that all your side holes will line up more with the movie mask and also that your head chevron doesn't always look misplaced.

  • @EvanKillham
    @EvanKillham Před 5 lety

    I was also coming to the comments to suggest a drill fix before you solved it, but I was going to recommend a step bit. It’s the same as drilling increasingly larger holes, but you don’t have to keep changing the bits.
    Budget version of the solution is pilot holes, impatient version is the step bit. :)

I'm thinking with plastic this cheap you could also take a slightly larger drill bit with your hand and gradually twist it in the hole to widen it more.

    Ah man, was hoping my comment got you prior to this. You can get the super cheap Chinese blanks for about $3.00/ea. Online and they look WAY better man. It would be SO much less work and you could concentrate more on accurate paint 🤦🏻‍♂️ that didn’t look like fun, especially drilling.
    Regardless a good job considering, but still could have had Jason quality about as good as the tots Myers rehauls with the much better and still cheap blanks.

    • @the-aspiring-creator4249
      @the-aspiring-creator4249 Před 5 lety

      That kind of defeats the purpose of these videos though. He did a painting tutorial on one of those masks so he's aware of them. The thing is this is for fans on a VERY tight budget who need a good Jason mask while maybe not having access to the really good masks.

    • @GordonStudent
      @GordonStudent Před 5 lety

      Aspiring Creator
      That’s false actually man. My budget is squat and he wouldn’t need to use any kind of filler to fill holes in the mask either, it would be easier and less work and look so much better.
      I’m telling you they are under 2 bucks lol instead of a dollar so he’ll be spending a whole extra dollar per mask so that makes no sense at all, because you can stay on your tight budget.
      I’m not spending a bunch of money on my stuff either and I use those kind of blanks all the time at least for part 3’s and part 4’s anyway and they look way way way way better.
      So it definitely doesn’t defeat the purpose at all it makes the entire process much quicker and look so much better and like I said they cost under $2.00 man. Trust me I do this kind of stuff all the time as well and they really look great and they cost almost nothing to do. And they are accessible to anyone on the planet because they are all over eBay and Amazon. Just search dude, I promise I’m only trying to help because the masks that are a dollar more look very good and accurate.

    • @the-aspiring-creator4249
      @the-aspiring-creator4249 Před 5 lety

      @@GordonStudent Here's the thing though, he did a tutorial with that mask, he's well aware that those masks exist. These tutorials are made for people who don't go for those masks because to be fair, most of them are on online markets and they take time to ship. Some people don't do that and they prefer picking up a mask from a store and since these masks are what you're most likely to come across? He's showing how one could turn THESE hockey masks into proper Jason masks. It is not made for the sake of teaching people on how to make movie accurate masks.

    • @GordonStudent
      @GordonStudent Před 5 lety

      Aspiring Creator that’s fine I thought the point of it though was doing a fairly accurate mask for very cheap. It’s just that this is EXACTLY what he’s doing in the video. You see what I’m saying?
      Yes it takes a while sometimes to ship from China but again they are dirt cheap and I thought the focus was keeping costs down and making it look cool like his Halloween tots re-hauls.
      I just think a lot more people would’ve enjoyed him using a more accurate blank especially if it’s practically the same cost as well is all I’m saying.
      Man the TOTS masks he did are pretty high-quality and they do look accurate it would’ve been nice to see him working on one of those accurate style masks personally because I think the guys a great artist. I’m a huge horror fan so naturally I prefer the more screen accurate stuff and he certainly seems to like the accurate stuff as well even on these ones he is following a pretty specific movie paint scheme.
      But I get what you’re saying.
      t’s not a bad video by any means I just think he could have appealed to a broader audience using the other ones because there are a lot of mask makers out there and plenty could use better painting skills. I mean he even said he got like half of his followers from doing those tots Halloween rehauls. Hell, it’s The reason I started subscribing lol I like the guys paint skills and he was doing stuff that looked pretty accurate for dirt cheap, right on 👍
      But each their own 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @the-aspiring-creator4249
      @the-aspiring-creator4249 Před 4 lety

      @@GordonStudent He could've but also here's the thing. There are plenty of CZcamsrs out there who are doing that and it's kind of just universally known at this point that those masks are the best and he even knows since he did a video where he painted up one of those masks and it looked really cool. The thing is, the point is not to be extremely movie accurate because otherwise? He would've most likely used those masks. The point is to show how one can spend as little money as possible on the most readily available mask and make it look good which is another big issue that the $3 mask has. Aside from eBay? The only stores I know of that carry these are Rite-Aid, Halloween City and I heard Party City and often times the prices are not the best.
      The $3 masks also have to be ordered in advance because unless you find a seller who lives closer to you? You're going to be waiting a full month more often than not which when considering that in October you'd want a Jason mask right at that moment can basically mean that unless you ordered the mask in September you're out of luck whereas with these thin masks? You can find them everywhere and often for only a buck whether it be Dollar General and literally any dollar store/convenience store.
      Plus it's just more creative and fun. I mean let's be honest here, CZcams is not hurting for content involving repaints of that mask. People like Big Hush, CS5 Unmasked, PsychoFilms and more have made many videos showing how to thoroughly customize that thing and we're still getting more but we don't see too many people who focus on the stuff that is the absolute cheapest, the kind of items that cost basically nothing and I think that's what makes this fun because it truly is an exercise in creativity and skill. It shows people that they don't necessarily need that exact mask that Big Hush and others use to make a badass Jason mask that you can literally just plop down a buck and with a drill, paint and patience you can make something great.
