  • I was invited by McLaren New Forest to drive the new McLaren GT. Since seeing this car launch I've been wanting to get behind the wheel of this luxurious Grand Tourer from Woking.
    Join me with a familiar guide for a One Take test drive. Turns out this car is pretty good !

      It seems to be really popular. I wasn't sure it would work. I really hangs on the person in the passenger seat. Luckily, both times I've tried it they have been really cool 😂

    Nice review. Looks like a really lovely car. I love the smooth lines, it’s a car that has not been over designed for a change. Like you, I drive those roads around Goodwood a lot and it seemed to cope with the lovely West Sussex tarmac !!!.

    Hi Pete, firstly like other comments, the one take format is really good and well executed. The car looks fantastic & I am aware this is a first drive but it does come across as a sales pitch. There are some negative features to this car which are worth pointing out such as, where does luggage in the "boot" end up if you brake hard? From the look of it through the windscreen. I am sure it is difficult when you're a guest but they must expect an unbiased opinion.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 4 lety +1

      It is tough when you only get 20 minutes in the car. Normally the negative stuff comes to your attention after spending time in the car. There is a stop bar and anchor points in the luggage bay and there is also a front boot 👍

    • @johns14a
      @johns14a Před 4 lety +1

      Nip down Halfords, buy a dog guard, nail it on, jobs a good 'un on the luggage retention front.
      Even with that stuck to it, the McLaren would still have a much nicer interior than the Merc-u-like Aston Martin Superleggover.

    Video was great, particular like the sport mode sound which I think I missed in other reviews. What also liked was that none of the commenters are trying to compare against a Vette C8.

  • @ByHarrywatson71

    These one take videos always turn our really well, definitely continue making them! Would be interesting to see how this stacks up against a DB11 side-by-side.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 4 lety

      This is only the second one I've done and I'm pleased how it turned out. This one really was one take with nothing removed from leaving Goodwood to returning. The 600LT vid had some boring stuff removed as the route was a little longer.
      They only work when you have a really cool guy in the passenger seat 😂

    Pete. Superbly handled one take masterclass. Effortlessly done. Compelling car. Seemingly perfect blend of everyday useability with more than enough edge for most. An Aston challenger?

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 4 lety

      It has to be compared to the DB11 or DBX. They are very different but it does the GT job really very well. I've got the DBX Volante soon so cab explore that question more 👍

    Having power means you spend less time on the opposite side of the road and thus, making it safer!
    Great car. Your passenger, whom remained nameless for some reason, was very interesting to listen too. Full of knowledge about a make of car he really loves.

    What do you think about the GT vs the 570GT? Preference?

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 4 lety

      Not driven the 570GT but have driven the 570S. I think the big difference is this car was designed from the ground up to be a GT whereas the 570GT started off as a 570S and was then softened. The GT ride quality is simply brilliant !!

  • @markscars1069
    @markscars1069 Před 4 lety +1

    My only thought with these is that you cannot view the engine from what I understand. Nerdy perhaps but personally, I like to be able to at least see the engine, even if these days it’s inevitably slathered in plastic cowling.

    • @PetrolPed

    $210k for exclusivity but soon in Jan/Feb 2020 that exclusivity will come at an extra $150k price tag, is it really worth it. Exclusivity is almost a busted flush now anyway, it was the 'exotic' car look that gave most to the sense of exclusivity. Now that exotic car look is available for $150k less than the price of this 2020 McLaren GT. McLaren, Ferrari, Lambo etc will soon see the game is up, these makes & their models mean a whole lot less to folks now, they already mean nothing to me.
    That spell of desirability has been well and truly broken. All they have now is the excessive initial cost which gives it that 'out of reachness' which is about the only thing left that comprises what is left of this whole 'exclusivity' package.
    Folks just throwing their money away to obtain what is left of the envy factor, they used to revel in, yet more and more it is turning into the pity factor, folks do actually now pity McLaren owners and the Ferrari, Lambo cronies.
    How gullible & weak minded they are, getting sucked into the McLaren brainwashing and propaganda sales machine, and getting churned out the other end sitting in their new McLaren GT for... $210,000. Save yourselves $150k folks you'll be glad you did, then you really will get the envy factor. Exclusivity has now jumped up to the $1m+ bracket, the 'mug punter' bracket. The game is up for McLaren.

    Hi Peter, you do love the McLaren sports cars and I have to agree its a great car but I would not purchase McLaren this is down to reputation with faults and poor service. If I had the money it would have to be the new Audi RS7 and a Porsche 911 Turbo S as I love German cars as they can sit on the driveway for months and always start first time everytime without fail or complaint and I class them as silent assassins they just get the job done and dont stand out from the crowd as the new RS6 is just to much it can no longer hide in the car park its no longer in my top 3 cars. well Peter as ever a great video also its been 1 year since I lost my wife on the 28th September 2019 its still a very difficult time plus Im having some mental health issues. Anyway Peter all the best my friend and take car. x

    Heyy

  • @MrDieselakias
    @MrDieselakias Před 4 lety

    u must be really satisified to be one of the first to drive (i believe worldwide), the new McLaren. Still, not impressed by the car as they've decided to follow a Porsche design language where every single model is a twin from the others, literally babushkas... Also, not impressed since they use the same engine in every car (from the 570 to the P1) and it is not even theirs;
