More knowledge or more of an intent to entrap and besmirch? Elder Holland wasn’t lying. Temple covenants are symbolic. We would not want to firstly unwittingly commit spiritual suicide through refusal to keep them sacred, and secondly, incur the natural physical consequences eventually… like a free society that continues in immorality eventually becomes too corrupt and self destructs. It’s a warning that, having had so many blessings, if we then go completely against them, our condition would be fatal, as described in the Book of Mormon in Alma 9. Maybe this is because once those who know the Lord well and reject him, have made a choice and will not change it. It’s a slippery slope once anyone starts breaking temple covenants, and can be fatal but not in the way most people outside the church have misinterpreted it.

    • @iDONTdoFacebook
      @iDONTdoFacebook Před 2 lety +1

Elder Maxwell surely would be proud of that quadruple alliteration!🙂
And it sounds like a wise and noble thing to me - the protecting against predatory practices of polygamists, AND the righteous practice of polygamy (as opposed to the unrighteous practice of it). The lifelong polygamists, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (“THE CHOSEN PEOPLE OF GOD”), would wholeheartedly agree with me on that. And so does God.
What did God Himself have to say about the LIFELONG POLYGAMISTS Abraham and Isaac whom He selected to be His “CHOSEN PEOPLE” because of their exceptional righteousness? Let’s listen to God (rather than pharisaical anti-Christian ACCUSERS) and learn something, shall we…
“And the Lord appeared unto him [Isaac the lifelong polygamist], and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
Sojourn in this land, and I WILL BE WITH THEE, and WILL BLESS THEE; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father [and lifelong polygamist].
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be BLESSED…
      [WHY??? God continues]…
…Because that Abraham [the lifelong polygamist] OBEYED MY VOICE, and KEPT MY CHARGE, MY COMMANDMENTS, MY STATUTES, AND MY LAWS.”
      -Deuteronomy 26
SO, God judged Abraham (a lifelong polygamist) to be one of the most righteous of men. It’s also instructive to note that Abraham was also a practitioner of INCEST (his first wife Sarah was the daughter of Abraham’s own father - Abraham and his wife Sarah were BROTHER and SISTER).
NOW, the question begs to be asked:
Does this make Joseph Smith and Brigham Young more righteous than Abraham? All of them practiced polygamy, but Brother Joseph and Brother Brigham never practiced INCEST as did God’s faithful servant, Abraham.
Hmm. Where are the “ACCUSERS OF THE RIGHTEOUS” now?
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”.
      [???WHO SAID THAT???]

I realize it’s been over a year, but I just came across this video and comment. For context, I converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints late 2013. Before that time, I searched out every faith I could find and learned what I could for 15 years.
Every faith teaches the need for secrets. Secrets are important not just for those who want to commit evil, but for those who want to ensure safety and to teach correctly.
Biblically, there is a concept that while crude fits this question: “tossing pearls before swine”. Again, crude. But if we regard swine to mean any creature without the ability to understand the value humans place on pearls, I hope it becomes more apparent. What is being taught there Biblically is that there are things of value that you can’t just show because the value of it won’t be understood or appreciated.
A modern day example of this might be me telling you to watch a movie or play a game because it really struck a chord within me. It was a masterpiece. You ask me what it’s about and I dodge the question but tell you that you really should watch or play it.
I could tell you in that example what it’s about, but it would sap all your joy in watching it yourself. If for example it was the game Subnautica (Warning, spoilers ahead) I could tell you about the Reaper Leviathan. But experiencing the serenity of the game, going through the work of building the survival gear you need…there’s so much context to it that you’d miss that makes the encounter so meaningful.
Secrets are positive things as much as they can be negative. Think of birthday presents and marriage proposals. Think of happy, embarrassing moments with friends you all share only with each other. What if a reporter suddenly came into your life asked you with suspicious intent about the contents of the gift, or the thing between you and your friends?

@@Extrasolar_XSLR Well that’s a complete misunderstanding of Matthew 7:6! The verse is about taking care of and not wasting your own holy things, not keeping holy things away from other people. Why torment the language this way? Yes I know the L-DS church isn’t the only one that has, but it is absolutely not something all religions teach.
Jesus’s entire thing was making salvation available to everyone, not just some “chosen elect” that follows all the right rules and can afford to enter the temples. You can see this clearly in Luke chapter 14, when Jesus lectures the Pharisees (the educated middle class). He tells his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed.”
Luke 14 concludes with Christ saying, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” This is the polar opposite of keeping holy things secrets.

As someone who hasn't been active in that church and at heart is an ex Mormon I can see how Holland frames the conversation. The reality is that the Mormons believe it's a sacred ritual that they call an ordinance. Meanwhile on the outside looking in it seems like a secret ceremony. Which it is. Replace the word secret with sacred and it changes the feeling behind the word. The reality is the Mormons are so immersed in their way of life it seems more than the right thing to simply make little white lies to protect their beliefs as they believe they are doing the "right" thing, with the mindset they will eventually have their religion spread around the world because they believe that's what "God" wants. The rest of the world looking in just see the lies they tell in a religion that has secret rituals which most people get the vibe as suspicious. In a way it is suspicious and very similar to masonic rituals. No matter which way the Mormons see it the rituals/ordinances that they have are secret and indeed similar to cults. No one on the inside of Mormonism would see it as a cult, but from my own perspective being in the church 17 years and outside it 7 years I can say it's definitely similar and has symptoms of that of a cult. And as people say: If it looks and sounds like one. It must be.

There are no death penalties in the Temple, C DQ. The Apostle was straight up honest with us there. There was once some SYMBOLIC verbiage included in the Temple ceremony that has been misrepresented by ignorant ACCUSERS as a literal “death penalty” (which the Apostle honestly and rightly acknowledged to his ACCUSING interrogator without divulging details, having taken his sacred oath and covenant with Christ seriously - a faithfulness that weak covenant breakers and those not spiritually prepared for or worthy of the sacred Temple Ordinances cannot and do not understand). OBVIOUSLY the no-longer-used verbiage to which we refer was only SYMBOLIC as there have been several weak-spined covenant breakers over the past 200 years who have gone on their angry spiels divulging things they had formerly covenanted with God they would not divulge regarding things that are beyond their spiritual acuity in their spiritually unprepared condition - and never have any one of those ever had any penalty executed upon them beyond the excommunication of their membership in the Church. Your attempt to convince yourself that The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints ever incorporated a literal penalty is a demonstration of ignorance and a waste of your time. Your ACCUSATION (and that of the Apostle’s interrogator in this video) is VERIFIABLY untrue by the simple fact that NO ONE has ever been executed or killed in ANY way, shape, or fashion as punishment for breaking Covenants made with God in His holy House.
      Imagine that.
C DQ, let me help you here…
“EXECUTION” and “EXCOMMUNICATION” are two DIFFERENT things. Did you not know that?
While EXCOMMUNICATION is a real thing in the Church, EXECUTION never has been.

You would see an improvement in your ability to comprehend the meaning of sentences if you would learn the definitions of words. Reading and studying (and riding tapirs) won’t help you until you learn the BASICS of reading and studying. Only then will you be capable of learning anything and gaining some education.
There have never been any threats in the Temple. That is obvious. There have been several who have divulged the sacred Temple Ordinances, but not one one of them has ever been murdered for it in any fashion - no hangings, no firing squads, no throat slashings.
The Temple verbiage that you speak of is SYMBOLIC of a hard reality that is coming AFTER THIS LIFE OF MORTALITY for all those who dishonor God. The day will come for those who trash His sacred Ordinances and Covenants when they will only be able to WISH they could slash their own throat and be done with it all while the demons of the Spirit Prison’s hell entertain themselves by torturing, tearing and ripping at them with claws and teeth. They’ll SCREAM for relief but none will come because they’re already out of their physical body and the spirit can’t be killed but can only suffer endless torment. They’ll wish they could slash their own throat and be done with it all, but what good will that do when your spirit’s throat (and torso, and every other part of you) has already been torn wide open by teeth and claw a million times over, and yet you still live to SCREAM in sheer agony and pain in a night that has no end.
The Temple SYMBOLISM to which you refer points to a reality that is indeed coming for the “ACCUSERS of the righteous”, but not in this world of mortality, TR.
You’ve only got a short mortality to learn these things. I suggest you spend less time riding tapirs and learn the meanings and definitions of words so you can comprehend the meanings of sentences, paragraphs, and the sacred scriptural books of revelatory Truth - before it’s too late for you and your long night comes for you - when that which God tried to teach you thru scripture, Ordinances, and symbols becomes your ETERNAL REALITY, either within the Light of Life, Love, and Peace …or the darkness of demonic torture, pain, anguish, and REGRET.

    PART 1…
From whence cometh the KNOWLEDGE of TRUTH? From whence cometh CORRECT UNDERSTANDING? And to WHOM is it given?
We live in seriously trying times. A real divisiveness has descended upon mankind. It has even found its way into the Church. The Faith of many within the Church is being severely tested. Some are shook to the core. Thru this process, which we have known thru ancient prophesy would surely come in the last days, some have LOST their faith while other’s faith has been STRENGTHENED. What is the difference between these folks who choose such different paths?
It is also instructive to note that THE MOST SEVERE TRIALS of the faith of the saints and indeed the faith of all Christians of any of the 800+ sects of divided Christendom, HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN. It is about to get MUCH MUCH WORSE.
Here is THE KEY of all that follows (note it well): STRENGTHENED FAITH comes thru the PRAYER of faith and the PERSONAL REVELATION that comes in response to our honest seeking and petitions to God that He provide us with THE CORRECT UNDERSTANDING of things He has ALREADY REVEALED thru His Apostles both ancient and modern, as well as any ADDITIONAL INSIGHT not revealed thru the prophets and Apostles which God our Eternal Father might PERSONALLY bless us with to aid us in our understanding of His already revealed Truths and in our desire to have our faith in both He and His chosen servants STRENGTHENED rather than weakened or lost.
It is VITAL to understand that in the realm of Knowledge, Understanding, and Truth, there are >TWO< categories, and they are >NOT EQUAL< in importance.
With that in mind, here are some quotes of some of the Lord’s choice servants followed (in PART 2) by my thoughts and some of what I’ve been given to know thru personal revelation. NOTE: I am NOT an Apostle/prophet. I only share these things with the hope that it may help someone find their faith in Christ STRENGTHENED as well as perhaps the gain of a deeper understanding of the role, responsibility, and the mission of the chosen, anointed, and ordained mortal servants of Christ: His prophet and the Apostles of The Quorum of The Twelve.
    A few quotes...

      PART 2…
      The Martin Harris “SALAMANDER LETTER”…
After the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had accepted the letter as genuine, they procured and added it to the Church’s library of early Church history documents and soon thereafter published it to the Church membership as such in the April 28, 1985 issue of the “CHURCH NEWS”.
Mark Hofmann, a return-missionary who had served a Church mission in England, became a noted historical document expert and was the originator of “The Salamander Letter”, ultimately pleaded guilty to his document forgeries (including “The Salamander Letter”) and admitted to the two Salt Lake City bombings which killed two Church members (one of them a Bishop from a prominent LDS family, whose wife was a Romney) and was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.
Upon the discovery that the Church’s hierarchy had been deceived and had bought into a fraudulent deal, Church leaders, especially First Presidency member, Gordon B. Hinckley, continued to field criticism for some time. Many members left the Church over these events. Some left before the fraud had even been discovered when the Church published what the First Presidency thought to be, and stated, was a genuine letter written by Martin Harris to W. W. Phelps detailing what was purported to be an early Joseph Smith account of his first view of the gold plates in the stone box after removing the rock it was sealed under. The Harris letter (later a proven forgery made by Mark Hofmann) claimed that Joseph’s original story included a white salamander appearing in the stone box containing the gold plates, which salamander then turned into “a spirit” that told Joseph he couldn’t yet have the plates and wouldn’t be able to get them unless he brought his dead brother Alvin’s body with him in order that Alvin’s bones could be used in a sacred ritual which would allow Joseph the power and authority to remove the plates so that he could translate them. Many members couldn’t reconcile the difference between the long published testimony of Joseph’s account of his first view of the plates (the REAL account) and the one that the Martin Harris letter, with its white salamander requiring strange rituals using dead men’s bones, purported to be Joseph’s “original” account of that event. So there were a number of people who left the Church at that time just prior to the discovery that the document was a Mark Hofmann forgery and was never written by Martin Harris. The crazy story of a white salamander requiring a sacred ritual using dead Alvin’s bones was all concocted by Hofmann who received $40,000 for his faked letter.
The next year (1986) there was a new wave of members who left the Church when it was discovered that the letter was in truth a Mark Hofmann forgery and the First Presidency had indeed been deceived by it.
Gordon B. Hinckley later said: (quote) "I accepted him [Mark Hofmann] to come into my office on a basis of trust … I frankly admit to being duped-Hofmann tricked us. We [The First Presidency] WERE UNABLE TO DISCERN THE EVIL INTENTIONS OF A MAN LIKE HOFMANN. He also tricked experts from New York to Utah, however. I am not ashamed to admit that we were victimized. It is not the first time the Church has found itself in such a position. Joseph Smith was victimized again and again. The Savior was victimized. I am sorry to say that sometimes it happens." (close quote)
At the time that this was all happening, I was living just 166 miles from Salt Lake City in James Town Wyoming. I was in Salt Lake City about once a month or so, so these things were “close to home” for me at the time, especially considering I was a member of the Church.
So, why didn’t I join with either of the two waves of people leaving the Church during this period? Why am I still a member of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints in support of The First Presidency?
There are some who would honestly ask this of me.

      PART 3…
Why didn’t I leave with others? An honest question.
My answer is also an honest one...
Because I am spiritually astute enough (ALL THANKS DUE to a caring Father in Heaven who answers the prayers of men {and women} who call upon Him in Faith for understanding and direction) to KNOW, FOR A SURETY, by the witness of The Holy Ghost, TWO TRUTHS:
      (1) The Hofmann forgeries and the First Presidency’s being deceived by him, were/are SECULAR matters which God is not much concerned with as they have NOTHING TO DO WITH the essential doctrines and ordinances of Salvation and Eternal Life and the First Principles and Ordinances of The Gospel of Jesus Christ which things are THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY of God’s prophets and Apostles and the MISSION OF THE CHURCH in any age. Don’t misread me here. I say correctly that God has LITTLE CONCERN for secular things and will let his Prophets and Apostles address those things as they see fit, knowing their decisions might not always be infallible in the secular sphere as prophets and Apostles are yet MORTAL men, and, when in error, those errant decisions (regarding SECULAR matters) will NOT steer us wrong in spiritual/doctrinal/Eternal matters but will merely serve to TEST THE FAITH of the saints of God (which is one of the primary reasons we all agreed to come to mortality). Again, SECULAR things are NOT essential doctrines and are NOT pertinent to our Salvation and Eternal Life, so our Father in Heaven isn’t much concerned with those things and the decisions made by Church leadership regarding them. In the Hofmann event and all things related to it, what Father in Heaven WAS/IS deeply concerned with were the choices made KNOWINGLY by His son, Mark Hofmann, who lied and perpetrated gross fraud for personal gain and then shed blood, taking lives to cover his crimes. I imagine The Father’s sorrow over Hofmann’s fatal choices must have been similar to His great sorrow when King David had Uriah killed for the sole selfish purpose of obtaining Uriah’s wife Bathsheba for himself. AND God is also greatly concerned with all those who abandon their Faith and Covenant with Him and walk away from HIS Church simply because they discovered that God’s chosen prophets and Apostles are imperfect mortal men still in their probationary Second Estate who can make occasional mistakes in secular matters AS DO WE ALL. The Apostle John Himself admitted to being an imperfect mortal man regardless of his holy calling when he revealed this Truth:
“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
      (2) Thru the witness of The Holy Ghost, I have been given to understand CLEARLY the GREAT DIFFERENCE between SPIRITUAL things which are ESSENTIAL to our Salvation and Eternal Life (the revelation and teaching of which are the PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY of the Lord’s anointed, ordained servants and the FOCUS of the Church mission)... and SECULAR things (such as business and banks, and political matters such as highly experimental gene-altering mRNA-based injections prematurely touted and pushed by a CORRUPT government as being “necessary” and “for our own good”) things which are NOT the primary responsibility of the Prophet and Apostles nor the focus of the Church, but are EACH INDIVIDUAL’S OWN PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY to manage for themselves and their immediate families.
I understand CLEARLY the place and role of the Lord’s ordained prophet and Apostles - that they are INFALLIBLE in their revelations and teachings regarding the SPIRITUAL things (the sacred doctrines and ordinances of Salvation and Eternal Life and First Principles/Ordinances of The Gospel of Jesus Christ) - but are CLEARLY NOT INFALLIBLE in matters SECULAR: BUSINESS DEALINGS (such as the bank Joseph Smith founded which many saints lost their life savings in when it failed... or the unknowing procurement and publishing of faked documents by the First Presidency which they erroneously thought to be genuine Church history documents) and POLITICAL MATTERS (such as experimental gene-altering injections, perpetual USELESS face-masking and USELESS lockdowns put upon us by a Leftist controlled, rogue federal government executing their Plan designed “IN SECRET CHAMBERS” which “SEEKS THE DESTRUCTION” of our Republic’s Constitution and ultimately its REPLACEMENT by an iron-fisted, ONE-PARTY AUTHORITARIAN/TOTALITARIAN dictatorship communist-style government modeled after China’s Communist Party).

      PART 4…
      Joseph Smith revealed that...
“A PROPHET IS ONLY A PROPHET WHEN HE IS ACTING AS SUCH.”
At other times he is yet a mere mortal man still in the trials of his probationary “Second Estate”, still not perfected, and still not infallible.
In the sphere of SECULAR things such as BUSINESS and POLITICS (and even personal decisions regarding our individual and family’s HEALTHCARE), those things are the individual’s responsibility and is BETWEEN THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE LORD and is not the place for Prophets and Apostles to be making decisions for us. They are to make those decisions for themselves as we are to make them for ourself. President Nelson, his counselors, and the Brethren who serve with them in the Quorum of The Twelve Apostles understand this Truth. That is why President Nelson never said we were under any kind of mandate or commandment from the Lord to accept the injection or the masks or that it has anything to do with our obtaining Salvation and Eternal Life. He never insinuated that his “encouragement” or “urging” his hearers to accept those things was a “THUS SAITH THE LORD” thing. He CLEARLY left it to be between the individual and the Lord and let us know that our decision to either follow the suggestion or not would have no bearing on our status or worthiness within The Lord’s Church. My knowing what the Lord has revealed to me personally regarding the Injection, masks, and lockdowns and their DESIGNED EVIL PURPOSE, God would never have told President Nelson to tell the saints “Thus saith the Lord, you are to take the Injection and wear the masks”. And President Nelson didn’t. He simply said as a man talking of SECULAR things to the extent that he is aware or unaware of the REAL science behind it (the Truth being regularly CENSORED by traditionally accepted “news” outlets so that MANY and perhaps MOST of our citizens are entirely UNAWARE of what the REAL doctors and scientists are warning us of)... so perhaps NOT KNOWING of the Truths and warnings that are being WHOLLY CENSORED and BLACKED-OUT by the mainstream medias, President Nelson said we “urge” any of you who feel the need to get it, to get it (he must be using censor happy CNN or the other Truth censoring fake ‘news’ outlets as his “news” source is all I can figure).
As the Apostle James E. Faust of the Quorum of the Twelve said in a Church General Conference only a couple of years after the Hofmann event...
“WE MAKE NO CLAIM OF INFALLIBILITY OR PERFECTION IN THE PROPHETS, SEERS, AND REVELATORS.”
(he is obviously speaking here of the decisions the Church makes in the SECULAR sphere).
      …and…
“The inspiration of God is available to ALL who worthily seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is particularly true of those who have received The Gift of the Holy Ghost [after water Baptism].”
I’ll leave you with President Hinckley’s frank, honest admission…
“I frankly admit to being duped-Hofmann tricked us.
We [The First Presidency] were *UNABLE TO DISCERN* the evil intentions of a man like Hofmann. He also tricked experts from New York to Utah, however. I am not ashamed to admit that we were victimized. It is not the first time the Church has found itself in such a position. Joseph Smith was victimized again and again. The Savior was victimized. I am sorry to say that sometimes it happens." (close quote)
      It is happening again today.
They (any of them who have VOLUNTARILY accepted the Injection, masks, and lockdowns) have been tricked again, this time by traitors within our own government who have been making and executing their dark Plan from within “SECRET CHAMBERS“. As Christ revealed to the prophet Joseph Smith, “THE ENEMY [IN SECRET CHAMBERS] IS COMBINED, AND SEEKETH YOUR LIVES, AND YOU KNEW IT NOT. YOU SPEAK OF WARS IN FAR COUNTRIES AND SAY THAT THERE WILL SOON BE GREAT WARS IN FAR COUNTRIES, BUT YE KNOW NOT THE HEARTS OF MEN >IN YOUR OWN LANDPERSONAL REVELATION<
Our PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with God The Father and a dependence upon Christ ABOVE ALL MORTAL MEN. This is the admonition of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and the other latter day prophets and Apostles who have followed them. This is the TRUE doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many think otherwise, both within and without the Church. THEY ARE WRONG.

If you do a little research, you'll find that the temple ordinances are modified versions of the Freemason rites, not unique creations by Joseph Smith or anyone else in the church. Joseph introduced them after his indoctrination in Freemasonry (coincidence?). They were certainly kept "secret" for as long as possible until the secrecy could no longer be maintained. The least "sacred" part of the endowment ceremony was the "Oath of Vengeance" introduced around 1845, which required members to swear an oath of vengeance on the heads of the mob who killed Joseph and Hyrum. The Oath of Vengeance remained part of the endowment until the 1930's, when it was finally removed. If you went to the temple before 1990 (as I did) you also made oaths to keep the tokens and signs SECRET (not just "sacred"), lest you lose your life in a variety of very graphic, unpleasant ways.

I cringe at this title and what was represented in the video (especially the music used to create doubt as if somehow the intentions of the church are suspect). I've only known Jeffrey R. Holland to be strictly honest, full of impeccable integrity, and a seeker of good. Not to mention the electrifying energy he emanates. He is love driven. Love for people (who he sees as children of God). Deep love for Christ (who he feels an intimate connection with) and God our father. His heart breaks when his integrity is questioned because every effort he makes is to do good for mankind and be a force for good in this church and the world. My experience is that good people generate good feelings while those who are not as good tend to generate a lukewarm or colder feeling. I'm not saying he's perfect and he would be the first to tell you that he's not. I hope you get what Im saying. Good people generate good vibes. So, I guess this doesnt resonate with me. My experience in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the absolute and unequivocal intentions (especially at the general leadership level) to see all people as children of God and bring them closer to Christ, make covenants with him, and develop as a disciple so that they come to know their savior in an intimate way (as they develop christ-like characteristics). And of course out of that love for God and man they hope to then carry this to all the world. That really is core to their beliefs. So, its hard for me to see those who go around trying to criticize the church. If criticism must be uttered as yin, at least couple it with the yang of all the incredible good the church does, the hours of service around the world in the church and community, and the efforts of always repenting and seeking to do better. Are there any other groups in the world this large who make such an effort to always improve in their relations with God and man? They intend constantly to learn and improve. And if criticized they are open to see what is hurting people and they take it to God in prayer and make every effort not to contend but to learn to uplift, heal and bind up wounds of those they may have unintentionally offended. So, if negative must be shared, then maybe share it with local leaders. Some will listen and take it up the chain. And if that doesnt work then take it up with the general leadership. Send them a letter. Set up an appointment. No one said this church was perfect. If Christ himself were running it then maybe it would be done perfectly. None of us are perfect. I"m glad someone isnt shooting me down constantly when I try to do good. So, just a few of my thoughts.

What I see is a reporter asking a question, and two higher up in the hierarchy are deflecting and trying to not give honest answers. The question becomes why? It would have been better for Purdy to say, "Yes, there is a Strengthening Members Committee." There is, of course, one--you can even look that up online on Wikipedia and it tells you more information than you got from these leaders. That is why the reporter was asking about it. He knew there was one. And also, for Holland to say that it exists primarily to keep polygamy in check, that is also false. Nelson has been on that committee and several have been excommunicated who are deemed as a threat. Many of those members had no ties to polygamy whatsoever. The plausible deniability of both men is obvious: "I don't know because I'm not on that committee." This kind of half-truth, lying needs to be called out. I don't care if you have a title or not.
