You can tell that this amazing man has an amazing understanding of Chopin's work. You can tell he admires and loves Mr. Chopin. Its quite adorable, and I think it adds to his performance. I love listening to him play.
Talk about opinions! To me Yundi Li is awesome! His crystal clear playing just hits the spot for me and not only in this piece, but everything he plays! You would pass out hearing me play...how about yourself?
This piece is much harder than it sounds. I could only play it at least ten times slower than he did. It does not sound like the same piece. Yundi Li played great! BRAVO!!
yundi li plays great and I love piano and classical music. but sometimes people say this sort of thing is only for rich people who have time and money on their hands and this music video portrays it well. but no matter what, let's enjoy it!
Beautiful performance by an amazing pianist, a perfect combination of a natural talent and life long study. Beyond any technical dificulty, he shows a total understanding of this composition. I got used to this music decades ago with my favorite version (Lipatti), but if I had to listen to it for the first time, I would trust Li without reservations. All personal details of the moment (in accents, rubato, etc) fit perfectly this simple, clear, no nonsense interpretation.
I just learned how to play this song in past 3months ago,... but I never know that this song might have been perform so fantastic as this! Its speed is so amazing and the feeling is so incredible
I agree. Yundi Li (along with Evgeny Kissin) is my favorite pianist. He is THE youngest to ever win the international chopin competition, and though at first many people found him to lack emotion... 8 years later one cannot deny it. He is currently one of the best pianists (And chopin interpreters) and by the time he grows to be in his 40s he'll be considered to be among the best of the best, he deserves to be no less of a legend than horowitz or cziffra etc.
I love how light and expressive Yundi Li's playing is. It's very hard to maintain the lightness and technique this guy has. Especially in his Fantasie Impromptu video.
Fox, I also think that he will be recognized as among the best of the best. I like to compare him with Rubinstein. Impeccable playing with a nobility in the expression that doesn't seem to leave room for improvement. Not for nothing he has so many fans. I don't think this has any relation to his race or origen but to the opportunities in his life. Born with great talent, an excellent musical education and full time dedication to his art. I just hope he doesn't get burned out.
i have heard yundi perform live twice. i think you are correct. while i like his playing very much, he hasn't quite reached the same level of mastery and experience as someone like krystian zimerman (whose recital was one of the best concerts i had ever attended). but however i do firmly believe he is part of the next generation of truly great musicians, and that he will get up to that level if he continues from where he is now.
Okay. If you want to hear the difference between sheer technical brilliance and true depth of emotion along with great playing, just listen to Rafal Blechacz under "Chopin Waltz (live from Paris)." This young pianist is the total package. When the Chinese pianists try to fake some emotion, it comes out like Lang Lang. Yuk! Thank God we have Russian and Polish pianists.
ive seen z666z666z's comments on half the chpoin vids on you tube saying how awful they are. Lets face it, Yundi Li is modern day chopin, My favourite pianist of the modern time is Yundi YOUR AWSOME YAH!!
it's funny to be against the law sometimes when it's very obvious. 0:01 Warning. :)...I noticed that because I just can't stop watching this performance again and again which I see as the best!
@SuperSenpaiMKZ I must say I agree 100% with. I have felt that way with my music taste as well. My friends look at me like I'm going crazy when I listen to this. Well, my grandmother only listen to classical music and wired her house with speakers to blare it through the house. People need to remember everyone does not have to like the same thing.
i think it sounds more like a waltz when its played slower, but this piece is noted I believe for being a not so waltzish waltz. He plays its hella fast here :O
Yundi did of course win the Chopin competition. It would be difficult for somebody with bad interpretations of Chopin to win that you know. That being said, I do enjoy an interpretation that is just slightly slower than this.
oh you think so...... look at his first scherzo, it's not about the chords, but a wide spread of fingers, especially between the third and fourth ones..... as for Liszt, look at La Campanella....11th's are used for the left hand
I heard this song for the first time through Yundi...now..if I were to hear it played slowly, it would sound strange because it would be a deviation from my first heard interpretation : P
its been 16yrs years since ive 1st heard it and By Far The best version i have heard

Crisp and clean. Exactly how it should be played!
how can anyone not fall in love with Yundi after listening to this!
Chopin would be so happy to hear Yundi Li; he has the true Chopin gift.
this is my favorite waltz. i love how Chopin can melt joy and sadness together so perfectly.
Extrodinary! Probably one of my most favourite versions of this song!
Talk about opinions! To me Yundi Li is awesome! His crystal clear playing just hits the spot for me and not only in this piece, but everything he plays! You would pass out hearing me play...how about yourself?
How articulate ! Love his playing!
what a beautiful setting.
what a beautiful performance.
He play with so much feeling!

Awesome performance !!!
Wat a nice song...wat a nice piano..wat a nice piano player... wat a nice place!
He's one of my favorites too..
I like how Yundi Li plays Chopin...
this interpretation couldn't be any more perfect!
Bravo, Yundi Li!
I just learned how to play this song in past 3months ago,... but I never know that this song might have been perform so fantastic as this! Its speed is so amazing and the feeling is so incredible
That was a really amazing piece. He really brings out the music.
This is a beautiful waltz!
I love listening to different interpretations of pianists on the same piece :)
I agree. Yundi Li (along with Evgeny Kissin) is my favorite pianist. I have no words......I'm just speechless,amazed.....

This a beautiful waltz and one of the hardest but I can't believe it's not in the book The Great Piano Works of Frederic Chopin!
Yundi Li~borrn to play Chopin !!!!!
Fox, I also think that he will be recognized as among the best of the best. I like to compare him with Rubinstein. Impeccable playing with a nobility in the expression that doesn't seem to leave room for improvement. Not for nothing he has so many fans.

The beginning was just beautiful.
잘한라가 아니라 역사상최고다.윤디연주는 그냥 인상쓰고 들어짐.들으면서 딴짓을못한다.더럽게잘한다
精湛演艺无与伦比!
I love this pianist ++++
Thanks Sky Fox
Thanks Meijke Balay
I first performed this when I was ten. I am still in love with it. Chopin's my favorite composer ~_~
Yundi is a very good pianist!!
he is a genius
EXELENTE,!!!! MAGNIFICO...!!!..ERES UNICO YUNDI LI.. MI MAS GRANDE ADMIRACION., Y GRAN ABRAZO..DESDE MEXICO.... PARA TI...EXELENTE..
This is by far my favourite video on CZcams. Not only is it incredible music but a pleasure to watch. Thanks Yundi Li; you are doing Chopin justice.
i have heard yundi perform live twice. i think you are correct. while i like his playing very much, he hasn't quite reached the same level of mastery and experience as someone like krystian zimerman (whose recital was one of the best concerts i had ever attended). but however i do firmly believe he is part of the next generation of truly great musicians, and that he will get up to that level if he continues from where he is now.
oh i love this watlz! I played it awhile back....it's so elegant and sparkly at the same time!
Looks like he is playing in some shopping mall. Wow, class all the way. BTW, he looks drop-dead gorgeous with this hair style.
This is fantabulous!! I am so in love with him!!
This is one of the best interpretation.
Very elegant playing - beautifully done.
Excellent!..
구윤디는 정말 최강. 이길 사람이 없을 정도의 실력.
Why isn't this waltz more famous?
He's just wonderful and he is one of my greatest 5 favorite pianist. I like his style when he plays; his emotions, I mean everything!!!!!
I really like this. I'll put this on my 'pieces to learn one day' list.
well the European judges and famous pianists in charge of the Chopin Competition agrees that Yundi Li deserves credit for his skill.
He is the master of piano in this age and is competible with Dong Hyek Lim.

BRAVO !!!
Great quality, thanks a lot for the upload!
And I don't want to leave out the Eastern European FEMALE pianists. The two Valentinas (Igoshina and Lisitsa) are brilliant and soul-rending!

He plays great, many thanks for the upload ;-D
Bravo!!!!
LOVE THIS MUSIC -- YUNDI LI PLANING ON PIANO --
Yundi Li - chopin waltz no.5 in A flat major, op42 (piano)
LOVE THE WAY YUNDI PLAYS THE GRAND PIANO!
That sure was beautiful!!!
my favorite waltz from chopin!
and yes, he plays it slightly fast...
wonderful
dangg he makes it look so short and easy...but it's not ):
yundi's AWESOME!
love this:D
amazing!!
You wish him the best? Hope he gets "great" some day?
He's one of the most internationally recognized pianists...I think he's doing ok.
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
ive seen z666z666z's comments on half the chpoin vids on you tube saying how awful they are. Lets face it, Yundi Li is modern day chopin, My favourite pianist of the modern time is Yundi YOUR AWSOME YAH!!
beautiful
this song rocks
beautiful! :D
So cool
it's funny to be against the law sometimes when it's very obvious. 0:01 Warning. :)...I noticed that because I just can't stop watching this performance again and again which I see as the best!
Chopin's greatest waltz.

Stupendo.
best version
現代のショパン、ロック的なめりはりのある演奏でリズムが早い
He's awesome... and he's young... what will be later? he'll be greatest pianist... :)
He has more of a life than you think.....a life is what yourself wants it to be. He himself wants this..therefore he has a life.
this particular version beats other chopin competition winners..
Everyone has their own taste.
I agree with you completely. Let's say, Lang Lang for example.
i think it sounds more like a waltz when its played slower, but this piece is noted I believe for being a not so waltzish waltz. He plays its hella fast here :O
i agree.
@yiyiku lol. His rendition of Liebestraume did it for me, I fell in love instantly.
tehe i love the first 17 seconds of this video
Yes
love the way he plays...really much better than Lang lang
this guy is the darth vadar of the piano
Enjoyable.
@FCAndanteSpianato u are so right i agree with u too. thanks
Yundi did of course win the Chopin competition. It would be difficult for somebody with bad interpretations of Chopin to win that you know.
That being said, I do enjoy an interpretation that is just slightly slower than this.
@pianopro9 It's definitely faster, but Li's interpretation is WAY more emotive.
@FCAndanteSpianato : favorite piano too. Only a Steinway concert grand could have such a 'fast and loose' sound.
woah how fast can he go..his fingers are like moving so fast @_@
Nice vid =]
oh you think so...... look at his first scherzo, it's not about the chords, but a wide spread of fingers, especially between the third and fourth ones..... as for Liszt, look at La Campanella....11th's are used for the left hand
라캄파넬라 최곱니다!!!
