@Gankmore = Vince spent an eternity going through the recordings of shows and LPs getting to know the material in various forms. THis process led to find Vinny constantly stumbling across TRUE GEMS the Dead stopped playing live for one reason or another....Vince would come to rehearsal saying, "Golden Road To Unlimited Devotion" is a FANTASTIC SONG, why aren't we playing it? Those final years had songs in them that wouldn't have been on the set list had it not been for Vince.
Okay I'm a deadhead got to see them with Jerry 10 * I try to treat people like I want to be treated kindness and respect but who's the moron they gave this a thumbs down LOL a great song a great version of it peace my brothers and sisters
hey tie dye Keith this is Keith.I agree with you so much. The first time I heard the boys with Brent...I said "wow ..fill my heart..strong and pardon me but really beefy
@Gankmore --- you might not have realized it, many "fans" didn't but, Bob Bralove (Vinny's keyboard tech) would stand off stage and controlled most of the MIdi sound selections for Vince's keyboard (as you put it "syth sounds"), since Bob knew the music better, he could select the proper sound for the song and let Vince worry about learning the catalog of songs he had to learn fresh out the gate,,,,Many times, Vince had no idea when Bob would throw something at him and force him to react FAST!
Hornsby is a great player but, one dimensional with his sounds, the same reason the Dead LOVED Brent's vast sound library over Keith. Vince actually wasn't a real deadhead in knowing all their material by heart but, he was was at the top of the San Francisco music scene for decades. Jerry liked him, there was chemistry on many musical levels, if not substance abuse levels but, that's not for me to judge. Just as it is not for me to judge Charlie Bird Parker's heroin habit, ya dig? Not my life.
@Gankmore = One last point.........BE KIND......didn't ya learn anything being a deadhead? Ya throwing hate, that's not LOVE.........I'll take LOVE anyday....you can keep your hate to yourself......however, I'd really like to hear you have overcome your hate through filling yourself full of LOVE...... get over it, Vince was the final member of the Grateful Dead, period, end of subject.
I couldn't disagree more with Shqueeshe, Bruce was amazing. Vince was a disaster and I'd argue he took a lot away from the GD's last years, I also believe it ultimately lead to his own undoing. Listen to the horrid synth sounds just on this crazy fingers, he steps all over Jerry constatnyl (see 1:45 to 2:15 in particular).
I was there.
Wish I could go back.

Jerry my man
that sounds like a Spanish jam by Jerry within the crazy fingers jam

Jerry playing rosebud
Nice extension of the outro from G to G# then the triplet thing. Is Jerry trading licks with Bruce there?
Not everyone gets the GD but those who do, REALLY get it
what's wrong with a strat?

sad but true Chris, Bruce was the perfect fit but he passed on the job.
