    Great video! I’ve learned more than you know from your channel. I caught 54 beavers this past season between footholds, 330’s and cage traps. I can honestly say that a good part of that is because of your videos. I’ve learned a ton. Thanks a lot. 👍👍

    From January of 2019 through the end of season on February 28, my brother and I caught 52 beaver from one property. The property had 4 small, shallow ponds. Of that number less than a half dozen were under 40 pounds with at least half going over 50 pounds. The largest was 57 pounds. When we pulled out there was still fresh sign. We caught 8 from there in the fall of 2019. We are back there this year and have taken 5 ranging in size from 35 pounds to 53 pounds. Don't underestimate the carrying capacity of an area. It could surprise you.

    As always, great vid.
    Its nice to catch them in a 330 but you can see it from further out that its there. The footholds most often take a little longer to verify so there is greater anticipation. I like that excitement. Where I trap the water is murky so you don't know if you have one until you feel for the slider on the rod.

    Great video sir! I love using the rods as I never had great luck with wire as it would kink. Nice to see castors sell high at the FHA sale--$110 per lb. US. I have trapped a few this spring and will set another place today. Still cant set w/o using my tongs. You make it look easy.

    What would be the smallest trap you would use for a foot hold on beaver?

  • @straightshooter7319
    @straightshooter7319 Před 3 lety +1

    Question. What would you do to prevent the trap from being covered in mud when the beaver comes to fix the break?

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  Před 3 lety

      It happens sometimes. But usually they will approach the dam and see why the waters is going out and get caught before they come back with mud for repairs

    • @straightshooter7319
      @straightshooter7319 Před 3 lety +1

      Its happened the last 4 nights. Lol. I have moved the trap in deeper water; elbow deep,in front of the break. Im going for a back leg catch now. If that doesn't work I guess I'll move to the side of the dam. Do you have any other suggestions? I'm probably going to set some of the runs that lead to the dam as well.

  • @keen9629

    What I used to do when I broke open the damn, I didn't set the trap in the break. I would set it two feet to one side. I would put a piece of green poplar with slash marks standing up for visibility. Right in line with the poplar stick I would put a finger size stick down into the mud and a couple of inches underwater, The trap had to be off set to where his feet would come down. When a beaver sees fresh poplar he will go over to eat it guaranteed. When he feels the submerged stick touch his chest he will put his feet down into the trap. Worked flawlessly every time and no traps burried in mud.
