Constellation are useless , it will only tell you where the North and other direction is so its not really usefull and dayz veteran know Always where they are so they already know where to go
The sky actually has realistic consolations and it can help a little in real life too

The bag of your own blood trick is something I actually never thought of, you dont even need to know your blood type, just get one when youre chilling and keep it for emergencies
Or use Saline and get the extra water as a bonus
Blood is great against pox attacks that's the main reason I have them
I always have a battle buddy to provide first aid if I’m incapacitated as well.
Do this as a half noob only 300hrs in but it works real good saves ur ass sometimes
Some things to take note of., the 3rd heavy swing on the zombies isn't necessary. 2 heavy hits and a final light hit do the trick. Also, most veterans sprint everywhere. Food is plentiful on chernarus. We can navigate without map or compass but I've never met a player that uses the stars. I use them sometimes playing on first person servers because they have dark nights. Line up a star with a compass bearing and then just blindly run with your head pointed to the sky to keep that bearing. Better than logging out or hiding and wasting the night.

12 000 hrs in fayz mate and I was using stars from day one. And if you Play in namalsk its very common at night when you are on ice.

If you double block, then double normal hit, then block once, then hit twice again you are even faster. You can if you are fast enough fit in an extra punch as well during the first part of the pattern.

When DayZ added the accurate sky I was baffling people with how easily I was getting around the map at night and avoiding certain areas without NVGs.
I grew up outside, knowing how to navigate at night was the difference between sleeping outside or getting in a bed.
Especially when you learn land nav without a compass.
i'm sorry are you telling me that if i want to navigate vanilla without finding a map ingame (or cheating and metagaming with one in a browser) i could just google a fuckin STAR CHART? trying this next time
I've seen something interesting recently, I keep on seeing people with the same profile picture as me- blue.
It actually has happened before with a picture of a game before. And suddenly when I changed my PFP I can't seem to find any people with that PFP.
I really don't know why this is happening. Also, I see the same PFP as me ~2 times a day.

Bro that egg event was the most fun I think I’ve ever had in DayZ. At the time I was playing this PVE server with 30+ people, and we were basically playing Pokémon, if u had a bear egg, it was basically worth 3 tundras, or 2 military guns (M16, M4, AKM) or 1 helicopter crash gun (VSS, SVD, or ASVAL)
Lol TF is the point of any of that on a PvE

I really am a veteran and I remember when I was brand new and hated the game at first because it was “boring”. Now it’s my favorite game and I’ve learned everything from this video from experience from the hours I’ve put in it. Looking back at it from my gameplay it feels like a movie sometimes and it’s awesome
A little over 1,500 hours here. Just found out you can set a camp fire on window seals. You can also carry a fireplace in your pack fully loaded and it only takes up 16 space.
12000 here. You dont need to carry fire place. You can just lit a peace of paper and drag wood on it after.

Edit: Ive been impailed as a sailor and since been on disability thus having plenty of time to game. Averaging 100h a week.

The visor actually absorbs the damage for the helmet so you're helmet doesn't get ruined as quickly, if you get shot in the helmet with a pistol the visor will take 20% of the item damage
I do all of this except I’m constantly running, if you know how to hunt/provide food and water you can sprint everywhere/anywhere been playing since it was a standalone mod for arma

Dude this is some surreal survival stuff
No veterans sprint because theyre confident that they are able to find food and water
another quick tip is to stash loot in mossy ponds and creeks, particularly near the coast.
but the true mark of a dayz veteran, I would say, is unwavering patience and cautious movement and positioning.
ive played standalone since 0.47 and ive had a number of characters that broke the 100hr mark or gotten dozens of kills. you can move as fast as possible, or have the best aim, but you cannot win a gunfight against the person who is unseen and unheard.
through the lens of an admin spectating a server you'll see that its actually fairly often you'll come within a few hundred meters of someone without ever seeing or hearing them, and not just in the towns, even in the woods - especially on populated servers near hotspots.
most people run around full sprint directly from one town to the next or perhaps following a road from a couple dozen or so meters off. they're pretty easy targets if you can set up a half decent ambush.
for example, put something tasty close to or inside of a hotspot or common route, like a barrel full of various items, most of it can be trash but you want to make sure there's at least a few actually useful things in there, like a canteen with some water in it and food, some ammo or batteries, maybe a functioning but not yet loaded gun. you just need to hold their attention for a couple seconds.
get set up a hundred meters away or so, ideally in a ghillie suit in a tree. at that point its just a test to see if you can click a completely still circular target the size of a dinner plate. doing so will convert an unfortunate survivor with all their aspirations and invested time and experience into - not that.
often times the loot trap isn't even necessary to achieve the desired effect. just something or somewhere that a player may want to go or look at. Likewise, be aware yourself that you could be walking into a potential trap.
sometimes I like to test myself to see just how intricate and perfect of an ambush I can set up, it's an interesting sport.

The smoke grenade tripwire alarm is actually really cool, even outside DayZ. Sure grenades go boom and are lethal, but using something to scare your enemy instead of outright killing them is far cooler and a great intimidation tactic.

As a dayz vet, I still wear the visor because I like to enjoy the games that I play and don't just play to kill other people and ruin their fun, I usually roam around giving stuff to fresh spawns

Best tip I never seen mentioned is that torches keep you warm. So you can run through rain and cold with one.

Those visors for the helmets actually do provide protection as I’ve been shot many times in the face by large caliber rifles in the game and haven’t died because of it because the bullet stopped.
No it doesn't. The game doesn't have any face hitbox its just the head abd the visor is just cosmetic.

I never played dayz. But I used to play arma 2 religiously, which is where the cherno map came from. I’m seriously considering getting it just for the sake of returning to what once was a war game, now in a post apocalyptic event just to see how it is.

Playing since 0.30 patch. (10 years) im a 100% veteran
After hearing all of this I’ve now realized this has got to be one of the hardest games I’ve ever seen
I'm a dayz vet with minimal combat experience lol I don't take much joy in fighting everyone I come across. I will hide guns on my back in my backpack because I don't want people seeing that i'm armed. I like to run around and gather as much as I possibly can.
I can't remember the name of the town but I remember hunkering down in a piano house once because I heard a bunch of gunfire. A minute or two later I'm pretty sure a group of five comes sprinting into town and I hide, wait 10 minutes after they're gone then I move in the option direction that they are going
Day Z is like Rust but with Zombies and survival skills put to the max
and better PVP
visors reduce sun glare to a minimal though but not having one equipped can conceal you better. Its better to bring one with you and switch out if you need to

I am so Veteran I introduced over 120.000 players to the DayZ mod by making a tutorial how to install it before launchers existed.

Man I still remember the 1000's of hours put into dayz mod . The new map always catches me off with something new which is nice but I used to know the star patterns and used to be able to triangulate shots to take 1km shots. I had fueds with entire factions of people on different servers always lurking. I was the dayz rat man now I'm older and a bit slower at catching on with standalone
If dayz experts got lost in the woods theyd make a new society
Don't forget that they also don't bathe cause the stat bonus gained from it is only useful if you plan on actually interacting with other "players"
I've caught a vet while he was still half freshie and managed to ping em with a mosin while he was jogging down the road

I miss the days of server hopping with the sane character. You could find a barrel, load it up with a ton of starter guns and play for hours on end.

Just recently got back into the game, imagine my surprise when i try to craft a bow and arrow and get nothing.
Also I learned the hard way that they added bears.
The fire trick is even easier if you craft it under a pine tree as close to the trunk as possible. The smoke gets trapped under the branches and never rises above. Really nice for Namalsk
When you don't carry human steak, you're a real one. You can literally make a fire any where, any time. Some of the modded maps don't have trees/bushes to get bark and sticks from though. They apparently didn't think about that when making the maps😂

The biggest thing about this game that I have discovered on my own is that what you do now will affect you 30 minutes to 2 hours later life and death can be the difference between going to that one house 5 minutes down the road or going to the next town 2 miles over
Ive never played this game, only yt recommended it but using the constellations as an actual mechanic is quite impressive
I barely play but I always do that attack pattern. It's the only way to almost guarantee not getting hit using a melee weapon

If you play with AB+ you can just take blood from players without worrying. Personally I like being O+ or O- and just stash my blood till I need it for a raid.
Honestly never played standalone dayz but with the 1000's of arma 2 and 3 but I honestly believe that I'd be able to thrive.
Don't forget we also only carry the essentials for Dayz are guns your maps just enough storage to fit a little bit of extra if we find something like and just enough space so we can wear camo or wear some ghillie suit you'll either find us in one of two outfits one that you can't even see in the first place so there's no chance in explaining the second one is going to be probably a pair of nvgs a witch Hood mime mask and all black on the bottom you're also my ear is giggle once in awhile in game 😂😂😂

I miss bow and arrow! Feathers from the chicken scoop and all that felt really good and should be added again. It’s a shame to have a survival sim without a crafted bow
