  • In a professional singing career spanning 38 years, Dave Bartram was the charismatic frontman and voice synonymous with the 70’s and 80’s hit-makers Showaddywaddy.
    Dave has written two books for Fantom - The Boys of Summer and All Mapped Out which have been borne out of his time on the road. Dave discusses both titles and updates on life in lockdown.

    A nice interview. Showaddywaddy we’re a great band, and my favourite rock n roll band. I saw them many times (Baileys in Watford, etc) With Showaddywaddy you were always guaranteed a great night. Thanks Dave, and the rest of the band. Great music. Great memories. 👍

    Lost all respect for Bartram after watching him claim that Mud stole their image from Showaddywaddy - neglecting to remember that they were in the charts with Tiger Feet - complete with Teddy Boy look at least a full year before SWW appeared on New Faces. Also Ray Stiles, Mud bass player told me that Bartram heard their version of Under The Moon Of Love and stole the idea to cover it. Can't stand people who think they can rewrite history just 'cos it was 40 odd years ago. Saw SWW live about 20 years ago and Bartram couldn't even sing in time - dreadful - admittedly they were pretty good when first out - saw them in 75 and they were actually good then - although totally blown away by Arrows who were supporting them. Anyway, what a cock!

    • @scatcatcnut
      @scatcatcnut Před 4 lety +2

      @Bigwigusa Nah mate you're wrong. Mud were wearing the drapes before Tiger Feet anyway. They'd been dabbling in the look after Crazy around the time of Dyna-Mite. I know they recorded Under The Moon Of Love before SWW for a fact as well. You are forgetting that in the early '70s the rock'n'roll revival was huge. There was a gig at Wembley Stadium with Jerry lee, Chuck berry etc with 100,000 there. Drapes were everywhere.

    • @scatcatcnut
      @scatcatcnut Před 4 lety +1

      @Bigwigusa Do you think there was nobody wearing drapes before SWW?! The rock'n'roll revival was one thing - plus loads of glam bands were wearing the look. Roxy had dabbled, also Roy Wood. R'n'R was everywhere in the glam era. The first four SWW records were fantastic examples of glam-fired rock n roll. After that they were just another crap r'n'r revival covers band. Sha Na Na without the sense of humour. When The Stray Cats broke through a few years later they made SWW look pathetic. I was there at the time mate - I know what happened.

    • @scatcatcnut
      @scatcatcnut Před 4 lety +1

      @Bigwigusa The pic sleeve for Dynamite - 1973 features Ray Stiles in drape jacket. The official promo video - though they weren't called videos then - has Ray and Les in Red drapes etc.
