  • This tractor was outside for a year with gas in it. When I went to start it
I thought I was going to have a problem with the carburetor. But no instead
when I turned the key I got no start, no click, no noise, nothing. The lesson I learned once again do not assume.

You're welcome & thank you for watching & taking the time to comment. You are absolutely right about equipment being outside. Between rust, mice & insects it will keep one busy. I took a quick look at your channel & your channels genre is similar to mine. I started out as a DIY small engine repair & morphed out to what it is today.
Hope to hear from you again.

On my mower, the pigtail that attatches to the back of the key switch had one wire that had been pushed back inside the plastic housing of the pigtail when it was joined to the key switch. I went ahead and plugged the pigtrail back in, then reattached that wire that had been pushed back, separately, to the back of the ignition switch alongside the others on the still intact pig tail. Apparently, that either was not causing of "nothing" to happen when I turned the key or my "rigging" it as I described, was not the right thing to do. Otherwise, I have replaced the battery, ignition switch, starter solenoid, the 20 amp fuse, the spark plug, and patched a section of the positive battery cable that had insulation missing and become frayed. Oh, I also dismantled the seat switch by taking out the metal peace inside the pig tail and did not hook it back up to the seat. I guess at this point, I will get a new pig tail for the ignition switch and wire it in to the existing harness. Hopefully, that will get it going. Any thoughts as to why nothing happens when I turn the key? Ty!

Thank you for stopping by & your question. I would try removing the kill wire that is connected to the coil. If it then starts it may be a short in the wire or a safety switch. If you do this be very careful because you cannot shut the engine off with the key. Can either choke it all the way or have an insulated plier to remove the spark plug. Let me know how the repair goes. Stay safe, Joe Z

the shop I took my yard machine too said it would cost more than 450.00 more beside the 180.00 I already paid to find out why it wont start or make any sound at all! I had just got it out of another shop that charge me 425.00 and it ran 5 min after I got it from him, I paid 650.00 for this used tractor I'm done!

Sorry to hear this. Just like any other trade not all shops have the same level of knowledge or value for their customers. Time is a big factor especially in a large shop with a back log of work to get done. I usually work on my own units & the "pick ups" I get & do it in my free time. When I do work on other units I do not charge for all the time it takes to diagnose the problem, especially if it is something I did not run into before. To be fair a shop dose not have this "luxury" with payroll, dead overhead workers comp etc. The best advice I can give is to maintain your equipment following operators manual. This will help keep repairs to a minimum & give you a hands on experience to help you get familiar working on your equipment. There are many videos like mine that cover just about any issue that you may run into. Wow this is getting long. If you do not repair your mower, as is it would sell from $50 to $200 depending on your area. You will even get more if you part it out.
Let me know if I can be of help.
Hope you get to visit again, stay well, Joe Z

My old Murray sat out last winter wouldn't do anything. Ignition switch contacts must have corrosion on them after starting the the thing with jumping the selinod and switch movements it finally starts with the switch.

Bob Hess, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
I had one that 2 legs of the ignition switch were rusted. Cleaned them up & it ran for years. This is one problem when you do not have room & have to leave equipment out.
