Performances in Verona in 1966 were emotionally very tough for Gencer. Her mother was very ill and her brother called her to come to İstanbul. She couldn't as she could only get a day off for deaths. Her mother died during this period and she flew to İstanbul for her funeral. During the funeral her brother came and said "Stop with your crocodile tears. You were not here when mother needed you most." They didn't speak for years and after only one day Gencer flew back to Verona and dedicated her Aida to her late mother.
How sad is that 😢 Family squabbling are the worst type & everyone takes sides not realizing that there are NO sides to be taken.Because in a family there is only 1 side.

I was when I heard my dear Mother past away under Contract with the Movie Titanic ( Di Caprio ,Winslet,Zane) When my Brother gave me a hard time while the Funeral tock place in Germany when I was in Mexico and Hollywood at that timr. Their was no way to fly to Germany to make i in time for the funeral ….. I regret it for the rest of my live but in the entertainment Industry youn can’t get out of a contract that easy. I designated ny Work on Titanic to my Mother…P`RIP

Ho avuto l'onore di ascoltare e vedere all'Arena di verona, il grande soprano LEYLA GENCER alla fine anni ottanta.... e devo dire che la sua voce era.... sebbene non più giovanissima.... intatta in tutti i settori.... specialmente i tanto osannati... filati in crescendo...che mi lasciarono un ricordo struggente dei più bei momenti lirici... da me ascoltati....LEYLA GENCER straordinario soprano tra le più grandi di sempre.🙏🙏🙏
