Drysdale was a peach; perfect for the role. His expression when Elly hits the target with her slingshot is gold. I love the part in this episode when Mr. Hacker chooses the “scrub woman” as Drysdale’s teammate. One of the best episodes along with the Baseball one.
Recall the episode where Jed is in court (facing a bogus liability suit by a pair of grifters), and has occasion to offer to have his family make use of their other skills -- "huntin' and trackin'", at which they are all "powerful good."
Did you know the Beverly Hillbiliies had the greatest line of any sitcom in the history of television? One of the men (perhaps Mr. Drysdale or the chauffeur) talks about the Civil War, to which an exasperated Granny finally replies, "You mean the war betwixt the Yankees and the Americans?"

In the 80s, I knew an old man (90s) that lived deep in the Loess hills of western Iowa. He talked about when he was a kid in the depression, his father gave him a box of 22 shells of which he was told that he could "miss one". With his Colt Woodsman handgun, he shot rabbits and squirrels and hung them on the cloths line during the winter. His mother would tell him to bring in whatever the number was for supper for the family that night. Listening to history like that while watching him skin an apple with a pocket knife was a true privilege.
This is definitely one of my favorite scenes in all of The Beverly Hillbillies! The Clampetts came off as having almost supernatural powers with regard to marksmanship. Versus the city slickers. 😂
I guess I'm the only one who is wondering how such a great shot as Jed could have missed his target and brought forth the "bubbling crude. Oil, that is."
Country folk shoot out of survival needs. Every round has to count to eat. Simple life to sustain simple needs. A firearm is a necessity tool and must be respected.
