    I think 2007 was disheartening because of what Brady and Moss accomplished individually and not being able to get the cherry on top. It was also a chance for Moss to get his first and only SB ring if they were able to win 2007-2008. Unfortunately for Moss it wasn’t meant to be.

    I don't think anyone watches highlights of their team losing the SB. Unless it's decades ago and the pain has faded. I have watched the Broncos-Packers SB in '97, but that happened long before I was a Packers fan so it doesn't really hurt. I still can't watch the highlights of the recent Packers playoff losses.

    If I was a 49ers fan, SB 58 is unquestionably more devastating than SB 54. In 2019, the 49ers weren’t expected to be there. They surprised everyone that year. Sure, blowing the 10 point 4th qtr lead sucked and was devastating, but you knew you had the roster to keep this going. 4 years later, you finally get back, and it’s a grudge match against the team that beat you the first time during this run. So the unfinished business factor had even more of an edge. However, another 2nd half 10 point lead blown, due to silly TO’s and mistakes. Extremely devastating, because the roster may never be as good again for a long time.

  • @christopherjohnson1873
    @christopherjohnson1873 Před 19 dny +2

    As a Patriots fan having only briefly seen the thumbnail: the Eagles loss is definitely in "you're fine" territory at this point, and SB46 might even be there too. SB42 is in "Still can't watch highlights" tier, probably. Of course, all of this is informed by the fact that we've done fine for ourselves during the rest of the era. Recent Bruins losses and (as of a couple months ago) Celtics losses are going to hurt worse for the most part, relative to how bad they were without the surrounding context.
    Granted, this is as someone who only really got into football in the mid-2010s, so if I had actually watched the Giants SBs at the time I might think differently. A lot of the stuff that happened in 2015 is still in roughly "can't watch highlights/still devastating" tier for me despite the surrounding SBs, in large part because that's the season I was most intensely following the whole league and probably have every detail of that season burned into my head somewhere. The local talk radio was all about how the one matchup we need to avoid in the AFC playoffs is going on the road against Denver, and there were a million different things that could have prevented that exact scenario from happening (of course the game itself was close once it happened too).
    It's a weird experience going from the dynasty years to sucking without much in between. On the one hand it makes me appreciate what was there before, but on the other I don't really pity my current fan experience _that_ much because as a non-competitive team there isn't much incentive to give a shit about anything that happens. I can mostly just follow the rest of the league in a disinterested way, basically.

    Old guy here. The 2 patriots wins against the Seahawks and the Falcons, for me, are just absolutely devastating! The Seahawks had a chance to just RUN the damn football with probably the most UNTACKLEABLE back in Marshawn Lynch for a couple of yards and what do they do? They try to throw a telegraphed pass in traffic!! How fricking stupid is the coach who called that play! Just RUN THE DAMN BALL!!
    Then the falcons had just about the biggest lead on a Patriots team led by Tom Brady 28-3 with about 3 or 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Again, who’s the idiot calling for passing plays? I’m not a rocket scientist or a football coach, but it’s pretty elementary when you have a lead, the other team isn’t the opponent, the CLOCK is! You need to take time off the clock by again, RUNNING the damn football! Don’t really need to score, just stay calm, run the ball, milk the clock. Oh wait, the Falcons OC is now the 49ers head coach. Just spitballing here, but there might be a pattern to see. Coaches that don’t RUN when it’s simply needed. Both of those wins by the Patriots, should have been BIG Ls instead.
    Very devastating.

    Panthers fan here. Going into SB50, I was so confident that we were going to win. I know it was technically a close game until the end, but it sure didn't feel like it. We never lead at any point, and it was painfully obvious that Cam was rattled to his core. Gone was the Cam Newton who was dabbing on the sideline as we won the NFC championship by 34 points, replaced instead by a Cam Newton that looked completely scared and helpless. The non-recovery by him on that last strip sack was just the entire game summed up in one single second.
    What hurts even more is that we've basically just been on a downhill spiral ever since that season... we haven't won a single playoff game since that NFC Championship. And look at us now, we're unquestionably the worst team in the entire league, with no real hope of getting better anytime in the near future. (Not to mention we have the worst owner in the league... David Tepper seems intent on doing whatever he can to drive the franchise straight into the dumpster.)
