You can get SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) immediately with immediate Medicare when you have ALS. Apply ASAP. The ALS foundation can help if needed.

@@QurVgn I agree. A good agent to do your paperwork can help you get through this process. I had to move money and assets around so it would happen. On paper you need to look broke

Apparently there are limits..I began receiving it around 2000.. and unlike SSI..my limited income was allowed. I received excellent care with Medicare..huge help. When I reached retirement age I was automatically shifted to standard Social Security income.

I am so sorry. I am a nurse and in January of 2020 spent two weeks in the hospital with what turned out to be a Myasthenia Gravis crisis. I had to go on disability and I no longer have muscle strength for extended periods of time. I know how lucky I am that I was not diagnosed with ALS. My whole life changed but I still have my life.

I'm so sorry the disease is progressing so quickly. I hate hearing you say you feel guilty. When my mom had ALS she was constantly apologizing for things she couldn't do and felt like she was a burden. She wasn't and you're not. Everyone, your students included, wants you to do what's best for YOU. Take care of yourself and make some great memories. I hate the financial weight that comes with this disease. My mother chose not to get a tracheotomy and try to keep living in a body that no longer functioned, partly because she liked to be in control of everything 😊 but mostly because of the financial strain it would put on my brother and I. The three of us moved in together. He worked days while I worked nights and vice versa. We took care of her together and were together when she passed. I wish our country took better care of its citizens in their time of need.

I know what you are facing ... my husband lost his job before he even had a diagnosis. He was diagnosed with ALS 4 days before he passed bc I could not move him anymore and had to call 911 for help. He never got a chance to see a neurologist before that even though he tried for 2 1/2 years ... nobody had time. In the hospital, they told me to immediately apply for disability for him. ALS and kidney failure apparently are the only two conditions where you do not have to wait for retirement age and still get the full amount. I know that is still not enough but a little lifeline. Also, I was told that the big ALS Org helps with free medical equipment. Maybe you know all that already ... but I thought I share that anyway. Also ably for disability ... do not wait for that. It takes time to get everything set up by the government. I lost my husband 2 1/2 months ago and my heart goes out to you and your family. This is a tough tough journey ... Love!!!!

It’s been sad for me to see your channel.I took care of an ALS client named Rick he was your age. He wasn’t married/ had no children. He was a pilot until ALS. He lived with his very sweet mom who took him to Germany for fake cure, etc. Took so many supplements he could barely swallow . She had money and was devoted to whatever he asked for.I want to be honest how it was from a caregivers perspective. I felt terrible for his mom her son was leaving before her. No mom wants this! I didn’t like seeing him like a rag doll, honestly I felt guilty I was married and had kids. I was also extremely healthy and felt bad he had to look at me with my life how unfair is that? I always gave 100% to him no matter how mean he was. It was my honor to help him find peace because I don’t wanna see anyone suffer. Your family will see you through. You are so fortunate to have them, but they aren’t gonna like what they see. I ask in the name of Jesus your family would be strong for you and with you . And that the Lord would bring comfort to them also. Amen đŸ™đŸŒ

My man. Stay strong, I just donated and it looks like the gofundme is already going stong. You help many people with these videos, whether struggling with als or not. Thank you for everything, go find some joy!

I'm so glad you have a supportive administrator. Your students will continue to think of you and make you proud. They know you are always there for them whether you are in the classroom or not. Please take good care of yourself. Teachers supporting teachers is so important. We have made a donation to support you. Thinking of you and your family during this very difficult time.

Thank you for telling everyone to find their JOY in life! The best communication you could share!
AND FOR YOUR HONEST words! It sucks and ALS is so misunderstood the researchers are not finding cures!
God has you and He will meet all your financial needs through people who are compassionate and giving!
I hope you discover the resources! And yes you’ve paid SSI and it’s yours to file if that’s the way you need to go! The ALS foundation can help you! It’s a bit tough but I think you’ll get through the paperwork if you file quickly so you can help your wife!
    I pray God heals
 and restores!❀

Hi Darin, this really sucks. I’m really sorry you and your family is going through so much. I have watched Brooke Eby on CZcams and FB and she has ALS, I think in her early 30’s, if you want to check out her channels. I am praying for this cruel disease to slow so you can enjoy your family time. I believe you are going to a better place as I’m a Christian, but this is very tough stuff. I am praying for you all. â€ïžđŸ‡šđŸ‡ŠđŸ™

You are such an amazing person, inside and out. Very difficult decision. Know that you are loved and cared about by those who interact with you every day and those who have never met you. Keeping you and your family, in my prayers. You are right, there is joy even in the little things that surround us every day. Even a gentle breeze can provide some comfort and a joyful feeling. That said, another good decision to agree to a gofundme. It takes a village, and Darin, you have a village!

  • @myteachersleepsinschool3652

So sorry. Your life, teaching, positivity, and joy have brought me joy. Through it all, you always end with, "Go find some joy!" You have used your little corner of this planet tonspread sunshine and joy. Thank you! My prayers are with you. May you feel God's presence everyday as you walk through this. I pray that the prayers of ao many around the world will strengthen and uphold you.

Hi Darin, I am glad you got through this video. We care about you and prayers going to the Father for respite care and daily encouragement.
Your Principal’s reaction overwhelmed you. You have a community who care deeply for you.
So I immediately thought of Maya Angelou’s quote: people may not remember what you said they may not remember what you did but they will always remember how you made them feel. God is with you and He is caring for you. Take care

I just came back from my long run preparing for a marathon. I often get asked why I do this and then I always say: because at this moment I can. But I don't know for how long that will last. Seeing your video is really humbling. You are a true inspiration and like others have said, students do not forget their teachers. Especially not teachers like you who love their profession and care about the students as much as you do. I also can't believe just how much of a financial burden your diagnosis is (I'm not from the US, so it always baffles me). I have donated and hope it helps, even if it's only a little bit.
