MBTA Green Line is the first city railway line opened in North America. In 1897, the first section from Park Street to Boylston opened to alleviate the traffic of the city. The line then extended in both directions for several time, and eventually formed the B, C, D, E branch (A branch replaced by Route 57) travelling to different west-bound destinations, with the other side ending at Lechmere station in Cambridge.
The Green Line extension project accomplished its first step by closing the original Lechmere Station in the May of 2020, abandoned a section of the older track, and built new routes and stations since then, enabling trains to carry passengers to places further north. On March 21st, 2022, the Union Square Branch opened with a brand-new Lechmere Station and Union Square Station next to the track of Commuter Rail Fitchburg Line. Crowds of citizens, rail-fans, city governors, and media reporters arrived at those two stations on the opening day and experienced the new line opened since more than three decades ago.
There are currently 3 types of trolleys running on the MBTA Green Line: Type 7 (Kinki Sharyo, 1986-1988), Type 8 (Hitachi, 1998-2007), and Type 9 (CAF, 2018-2020). As Type 9s do not have a stop sign at the side, they rarely run on the E Branch which has a street-running section. But on the opening day, there is a Type-9 entering the extended section, being the one which participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. I am not sure if it runs as a D Branch train.
This video is taken to celebrate the opening of GLX. It is taken on a Type 7 because their orient of walls enable the phone to stay smoothly. The faces MBTA employees aren’t included in this video, and direct recording passengers’ faces were also avoided.
    Thank you for watching!

I love how the E goes from new grade separated LRT to the last streetcar line in Boston.

The old station is being demolished as of now. This shows that Boston was the 1st city to have a Subway since 1897 predating New York by 7 years

The irony of this line is that the Route 39 bus, covers the former trolley route to Arborway, and the line to Jamaica Plain!! The line originally was the 39,and that transition occurred during the 1980's! Arborway[also known as Lotus Place carhouse],was an extremely busy place, and it really should be revived to cover the Washington Street routes, and the now former trolleybus operations! See the BSRA bulletin number 23,it will give you an overview! Thank you 😇 😊!!

I mostly ride the D branch but it's fascinating to see how the E branch goes right in the street instead of between the two. :)

It'll be weird not hearing, "The destination of this train is Lechmere," the next time I visit Boston. (Although I have to admit, I wouldn't miss that old station; I felt like it was about to cave in. 😄)

You could record it by your phone or iPad, because most of them today offer great quality in recording. Some even have algorithms to do noise canceling.
