    The one thing I wish when I play as Rome is their Legions can be upgraded into another Roman unique unit, perhaps Comitatenses, or even a unique unit of a completely different branch like training Scholae Palatinae instead of Knights, so their power stays a bit longer than Ancient-classical era. Even during the late period of the Roman Empire, their armies are probably still the most disciplined and professional compared to most other Civs in that era.

    • @nathanielnarofsky3357
      @nathanielnarofsky3357 Před 2 lety

      You just need to make sure to avoid unneeded unit deaths; those forts can be pretty helpful for that. Then you can upgrade them each era and then now you have a bunch of superleveled units which can mostly stomp everything you send them at. Especially if you get akkad as a city-state.

    Ancient era: a drummer boy leads a parade through the winding streets of rome, a crowd gathering to hear the tunes of the flute. Behind him marches a new army, one of spears and helmets unlike anything the world has seen before. Under this new army The kingdom will prosper.
    Medieval era: the empire has eclipsed all that came before it, and now it stands alone as a sole superpower. From the palace of the grand emperor Trajan a performance fit for the gods is echoing out into the streets. The Loyal legions March side by side to the court minstrels lute.
    Industrial: a young boy stands surrounded by rubble. Some of it harkens back to the grand empire of the past, but the rest is of a recent battle. The past seeps from every rock. Suddenly he hears a drum blast out of the solemnity. it’s the army of Piedmont Sardinia, or as it’s now known Italy. The boy sees them March in time to rhythmic tune that harkens back to the time of emperors, and the might and glory of this reunited nation emerges from its former decay.
    Atomic: the sounds of the Luftwaffe Blast out in the sky, only matched by the thunder of the American artillery that batters rome. The ruins of the past stand next to the battles that will define the future. Suddenly the fighting stops, but the sounds of combat do not, for they come from a past time. Rome is now longer a goal that can be reached, but a story that can be told as the Italian people can enter the future

    The story behind the cult whom the hymn is dedicated is amazing, so I'm gonna share it. When Rome was founded It was a federation of villages near the Palatin Hill, (the legend even says that It was born as a political asylum for criminals and adventurers!) and the had a big problem, they were not a people and didn't have an identity. So they identified themself as the Troyan refugees, this was an excellent choice, other italic cities (Taranto, Neaples) that had greek ancestors couldn't emancipate themself from the greeks, this gave Rome the ideologic foundation to expand and basically declare war with everyone. When 500 years later (200 BCE ca) Roma was invaded by Hannibal and his army they couldn't explain why the gods abandoned them, but then with a prediction from another italic people (the sabins) they realized: It was really them that abandoned their God, their Mother Cybele, the original protectress of the Troyan. A Roman embassy, in the middle of the war, was sent to Phrygia, modern day Turkey to bring back the Goddes. Cybele returned and phrygians priests with her, from that moment the Mother was onoured every year on April.

      @@jandogta2030 Hello Jan! I'm an historian from a Rome's university, so excuse me in advance for my bad english! The story i talk about is told by numerous latin authors, i'm going to expose my sources so you can verify by yourself. About the foundation of Rome Dyonisus of Halicarnuss exposes in the II book, 15th chapter of "Roman Antiquities" how the city was founded by Romolus as an asylum for political refugees. The main sources, although we have a plenty of them, about the Magna Mater's story are Livy's "Ab Urbe Condita" Chapter XXIX, 10, 4-5 where he talks about the Sybilline Books and the Magna Mater, and Ovid's "Fasti" IV book, 251-272, where he talks about the expedition in modern day Turkey. I really hope these sources will help you and satisfy your curiosity, and most of all I hope they will teach to you to not be a pretentious asshole who insults other people on CZcams. Moron.

      The song is called Magna Mater (Great Mother), it's a religious cult song. Romans and modern Italians are different people, Italians are the descendants of barbarians that took over Rome in the middle ages, and I don't think there are many (if any) true Romans left

    • @DiscothecaImperialis

      @@fedorflip So modern Italians are closer related to French and Germans (which were also descendants of what old Romans often called them 'Barbarians' just because they live much simpler than the Romans did?) than to Mediterranean fellows?
      And modern Italians don't really feel like they're children of Rome do they?
      In WW2 In Italian Campaign. it turned out that Americans can easily identify who's Italian and who's German just by looking at facial layout. Americans (including those of Italian descendants) often called Italians 'tied eyes' yet they feared Germans more.

It's just ridiculous, modern italians of course are related to the old romans, just as the irish are to the celts or the spanish to the iberians, the main core of the population remained there after all the invasions that happened, most of the time the invaders just positioned themselves as the elites and didn't mix with the natives, that doesn't change the people. They didn't flee anywhere and even less to places like Germany or England, that's just stupid, think for a moment... why would they flee to the same place where the invaders came from?
