    You did a great job styling it, really. I think the problem is that dress is simply not flattering at all - wrong length, and best looking when top part covered. Not sure what else is "off" - maybe not your size? This video still shows how even such a challenging item can be made wearable using creativity and experience (to finish on a positive note as I love your videos)

    • @YourGuideToStyle
      @YourGuideToStyle  Před rokem +4

      Thank you. I was trying to show exactly that. Sometimes it's really hard to find the "right" length, fit and style so sometimes we have to make it work.

    The brown platform shoes and hat were adorable!!! That dress does lean frumpy, I was happy to see you save it!

    • @YourGuideToStyle

      It definitely does lean frumpy and there are lots of dresses out there in this length that tend to look the same. I am glad you agree that I saved it! 👍 Thanks!

    I like the trendy one at the end the best. Another idea would be to put a long sleeve top underneath. Not sure it wouldn’t look frumpy, but worth a try!

    I think that particular dress would be hard to wear for bustier women. In addition, adding a jacket of any type over denim ruffles on an already full bustline is simply out of the question. IMHO

    • @YourGuideToStyle
      @YourGuideToStyle  Před rokem

      It might be since it buttoned up. It just depends on how the person is shaped everywhere else. The ruffles get completely covered by jackets and are really minimal and the fabric is light so I don't think they are a problem.

    I have had a simple, almost shift-like long midi denim dress with darts in the bodice and narrow spaghetti straps for a good 20 years. Such a classic! I love layering it with a white or blue striped button up top over it, or a tight white T under it, sandals, clogs, white sneakers, classic gold jewelry or something more bohemian ( like amber beads), a straw bag, a straw hat, a bucket hat, a striped sweater over my shoulders... I think for your dress, a silk scarf in denim blue and camel or white would be cute-- on your ponytail, tied on a hat brim, tied on a straw bag, or worn 1960s retro kerchief style with big sunglasses, for a drive or a walk near the coast when it's breezy!

    This was very interesting and helpful! You're teaching me that I need to take the time to try different things with my garments. That's my biggest flaw is not putting the time into planning so I end up reaching for the same things over and over that I already know work. I feel that I've been wasteful in buying things and not wearing them because I haven't taken the time to style them well. Thank you for the demonstration and reminder

    This was helpful. I sew & knit. My next dress will be a navy accessory dress that can mix with various cardigans and jackets. Seeing the different jackets proportions over the dress was helpful. The trend I hoped you were teasing was denim with denim. I don't wear cowboy boots. Unless you're actually riding where I live (and I don't), cowboy boots read as "all hat, no cattle." BUT I do spend enough time in the southwest to think your outfit with boots would be super cute for a date or girlfriends lunch in downtown SantaFe.

    Hi Jamie, i really like this dress however; in my opinion this dress is too long on you and the length overwhelms your petite size. I would have this dress hemmed 3 to 6 inches. Usually to an inch or two below the knee. This would help with styling. You have been styling the dress to pull all the attention up suck as belts, jewelry and your hair up.
    I like the boots, but i live in TX. I also have the same two band tan sandal, but with a 1 inch heel. I love these shoes.

    You made it so much better but that dress is just a bit too long on your 5'4" frame. If it were hemmed a few inches to show more leg, it'd look better with every type of shoe.

    OK...my opinion...hair up on top of head @ ALL times w/ this dress; more of the foot needs to show (no for strappy sandals
    , loafers, & cb boots). The sneakers looked the best; short jackets & belted blazer were the best. Good try on a difficult dress.
