Thank you so much... This is the best explained tutorial I've seen on ankle strapping. Straight to the point and well described.
Thanks again.
Thanks heaps destroyed my ankle around 2 years ago now. I’m only 15 and love running. Thanks for the help 👑
Thank you very much. I just had an ankle sprain about 1.5 weeks ago. And my ankle feels more secured now. Thanks!!
Guçi Geng that’s great. Speedy recovery
@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker What is the name of the tape and where it is sold
@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker Is it permissible to use it when playing football and other sports?
@@user-sr8mc2oc4n yes it is. Go for it
@@user-sr8mc2oc4n it’s called rigid sports tape 3.8cm wide. Chemists usually sell it or your local Physiotherapy clinic. 👍
forever wishing i didnt have biscuit ankles
This Guy Tapes
How do we remove the tape? I have very bad ankles and I am testing things to see if it can make my ankles more stable and I am giving tape a try. I just was wondering how you would remove it.
Zoe is here hi, two ways. Cutting down each side of the ankle taping using tape scissors (flat metal on one side to rat against your skin) or unwind bit by bit the opposite of how you put it on. 👍
This is a great video. At 48, I rolled my ankle in July 2019. It still seems a little weak to me. I have an active life and still skate, ride my bike. Is it ok to ride my bike with this tape on?
alicia s it’s fine to use when you are doing at risk activities. Doing some strength and balance exercises for your ankle is recommended as well. There’s are lots of videos with exercises. Best of luck
myPhysioSA MT Barker thanks so much for your reply. Appreciate it.
I'm a student physio, with quarantine, it's become increasingly harder for me to learn my taping and submit it over a word document. Would you be able to explain how to do a knee/elbow strap and a thumb Spica strap?? it would be greatly appreciated and would save me a lot of time, thanks.
Pedropereira2001 easy, just check out the rest of our taping videos on our channel. Best of luck with your study.
@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker Thank you
@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker Would you be able to explain the taping techniques are achieving? like what movements will be restricted for each technique??
Pedropereira2001 hi, with the ankle, whenever you cross the ankle joint with a strip of tape, the direction you then pull the tape will limit the opposite ankle movement. So this taping will limit both inversion and eversion the most. You can apply this rule to every taping of every joint in the body.
Whenever you tape you always are thinking about what movements you are aiming to restrict and then lay and pull the tape in the opposite direction. Hope that helps.
myPhysioSA MT Barker thank you, yes this helps a lot
Our ankle is a joint that is flexible and act as a shock absorber whenever we jump or run.. is it true that taping like that lessen it's purpose as a shock absorber and if you jump and land on others shoe, the next joint will react which is the "KNEE" Which is more dangerous and expensive when injured.. So do you think it is still advisable to tape the ankle when playing? Or only for recovery?
Taping your ankle as shown shouldn’t affect the function of your ankle for running and won’t affect your knee or hip.
If you playing a high risk for ankle sprain sport or have recently sprained your ankle (previous 6 months), then it’s recommended to tape your ankle for competition. 👍
@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker thank you for your anwer. I'm just still confused because you used a pro tape which is not flexible. And it's prevention from sprain. So If you jump and land on other's shoe, your ankle will not twist, because the tape is hard and rigid.. so it's possible that your KNEE will twist.. How about kinesio tape? It's flexible, it will add support to your joint but still flexible. What do you think is better sir? When playing basketball?
@@jomaquiopatokong8328 rigid tape is recommended for taping your ankle. Kinesio tape is too flexible and won’t do the job.
Try the rigid tape and see how it feels. It would be unusual for it to put your knee at increased risk of injury.

@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker thank you so much. I am playing basketball and sprained my ankle many times. Now at my age, 38. Is now afraid of injuries. I put kinesio tape on my ankle and knee support on my knees whenplaying. I like to try these method in competitive games. Thank you so much.
Thanks
Could you name the tapes which are used in this video please?
Rigid sports tape 3.8 centimetres wide and underwrap low allergy 5 centimetre wide. 👍
What tape are you using?
Hammad Parwaiz hi, rigid 5cm wide adhesive sports tape 👍
Thanks for getting back to me. Was wondering if you recommend any particular brands or specific tapes? I’m finding mixed reviews online
Hammad Parwaiz what country are you in?
What is the name of the tape you use?
Sheldon Bent rigid sports tape 3.8cm wide. 👍
Pre Bandage
Would an ankle brace be as good as taping
Zaine Chia Yes it is. It needs to have the supports with lace up and straps (ASO type we recommend) Comes down to personal preference. 👍
may I know what is the white tape called?
Under wrap. This is a low allergy under tape that is lightly sticky. 👍
Would this help with being 8 weeks post op orif surgery?
We wouldn’t usually tape an ankle after a surgery. 👍
@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker thanks! I'm still waiting to see a physio, do you have any suggestions to minimise pain when walking please?
@@sarahstevens640 have you tried a basic ankle pull on elastic support? Also wear supportive lace up shoes ie light boot or walking shoe
I’m a basketball player and I have very weak ankles but I don’t want to keep the tape on for that long. Do I just wear a wrap under it?
Floop Hey hi, you can have underwrap tape underneath which is white with light glue. 👍
can i still use kinesio tape
Kinesio is quite stretchy and won’t give as much stiffness as regular tape so it isn’t usually used for restricting the ankle 👍
Thank u that was helpful
Yeet Yeet Thanks!
my ankle is very weak so this is helpful
how many days can you keep this tape?
ytrew hi, if The brown tape is directly on your skin then 2-3 days maximum. If you use white underwrap then up to 5 days. If it starts to get itchy take it off. 👍
@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker thank you! But which one do you mean by "white underwrap"? Are you talking about the elastic non sticky bandage made in fabric?
ytrew yes. Hyper fix is the most common. It has a light adhesive to help it stick.
@@myPhysioSAMTBarkerMountBarker I guess you mean "Hypafix" (Sports Tapes)
@@ytrew9717 That's the one. Best of luck with taping your ankle
Mine be looking like a blind T-rex did it aha
Shave first people 🥺
Yeah i have pretty hairy legs and it was a nightmare to remove the tape first time :D
Gonna need bigger shoes fam.
Thanks
